Kellen

Kellen is 15 and a half months old, 22.4 lbs, 30.8 inches. He's down to the 19% in weight and the 34% in height. Looking at him, he's nice and pudgy. We can't really figure out why he's growing so slowly. Could it be that he's a picky eater and he only stops moving to sleep?
We have found that he'll eat better when he's the one in control. It's messy, especially when he eats yogurt with his hands! We try to give him some of everything that we're eating. But, he still won't touch green vegetables. And if he had his wish, he'd eat bananas, yogurt, milk, and bread for every meal. I did find out recently, that while he won't touch raw avocado, he LOVES guacamole! He likes it on a chip, but doesn't eat the chip. And, he needs a new chip for each bite.
I'm still amazed at how quickly he learned the sippy cup. And he's also learned to use a straw, on the first try, March 7th!
He loves to play with his sister and try to do everything she does. (See video 3215 in Kellen folder.) So cute how he imitates rubbing lotion into his hands! He started blowing kisses and giving kisses on March 6th, but since then has been very stingy. What a boy! Sometimes he gets them confused and spits right on your mouth to give you a kiss, but I love it.
He so quickly went from this cute scoot-crawl . . . (See video 3236.)

 . . . to headstands . . .
. . . to walking! I didn't record an exact "walking" day. But this video is from Feb. 3rd - 14 months old. (See video 3234.)
Because he's always on the go, he'll only make it through about one page if you try to read to him. This is what he likes to do with books, instead.
Here he is with one of his favorite toys - a cheap kids meal something.
This looks like a very sad picture, but when he's crying is the only time you can see his new tooth. I thought that Jenna's tooth eruption pattern was weird, but his is even more strange. He had his top four teeth, and his bottom two middle teeth (can't really see them in this picture), which also came in a weird pattern. But, on Feb 28th, after a horrible night, we discovered his bottom right molar! There are so many teeth missing in between that I wasn't even sure what tooth had come in at first! Then, a few days later, on Mar. 3rd, he got his lower left  lateral incisor. So, on the bottom, he has three teeth in front and a molar - weird.
He doesn't talk yet, but he knows how to get what he wants. When you offer, and he wants it, he does this cute little smile and nod. (See video 3344.)
And, he's already mastered the throw yourself backward on the floor tantrum. (See video 3343.) Poor guy, he doesn't have any words to express himself. And we can laugh at it now. We'll see how it goes when he gets older.

Jenna

Jenna is "4 and 3/4" as she likes to say lately. She just can't wait for her "5" birthday, which may end up being a spiderman theme. She decided that around Halloween and so far, it's sticking.
She loves to play pretend games. This landing between the stairs has become her haven for playing with little things. With the gate up, Kellen can't get to her and yet we can all still see each other. Anyone recognize those Strawberry Shortcake dolls? They used to be my sister's and mine. But, she doesn't need dolls to have a good game of pretend. Favorite scenarios are: Lion King, going to school, Star Wars (she's either Luke Skywalker or Queen Amidala), and going to Alaska. The other day, she came up with a new one: lowering someone down with a rope. I started right in pretending with her and she said, "Wait. We need to discuss this." : ) Then she proceeded to describe my character's actions. Another funny thing she says that I want to remember is, "What in the world, gravy!" I have no idea where she got that. I need to be better at writing what she says down, I know there are some I'm forgetting to include here.
Her artistic talents have been a little slow to evolve, but she's starting to draw more. This was a card for Aunt Katie. She loves to draw roads, roller coasters, and a picture of her holding hands with the card recipient. But in this one, she also added a camel (to the right of the small person) and a rainbow.
Still quite the performer. (See video 3227 in Jenna 4 yrs old videos folder.) Spring is full of high school basketball games for us, so she was inspired to make up her own cheer. (The boys just won the state championship last night by the way.)  A few weeks ago at Papa and Mima's, the cousins decided to perform a talent show. Her talent? Singing, of course. This next singing video (See video 2881.) was at bedtime back in November. Guess I forgot to post it back then.
Her nap time is down to an hour and a half or sometimes no nap, which means I don't have as much down time. But, if I need to get more done, she's usually content to "read" her library books. She's beginning to sound words out and even read the first sentence of a new library book that we had never read. I wonder if somehow she must have guessed.

She is a big helper around the house. She loves to start the dishwasher and scrub toilets. And no, I don't make her do the latter - she begs to have a turn with the toilet brush! She just learned to turn socks into each other (what's that called?) after matching them and she can put her laundry away all by herself. And, of course, she is the best big sister! It's been so fun to see them start to be able to play together. There's going to be a Mommy and a Brother missing her come fall.

Kellen's First Haircut

Thursday, February, 23 - Kellen's first haircut, age 14 months, 20 days.

Before

 Look at all that hair!
Daddy's clippers, Mima's cape (she used to be a hairstylist), Mama's holding skills, Aunt Heather's photography.
I didn't realize I was smooshing his face. : ) What a trooper!
So handsome!
More smooshing and cutting.
Oops!
After - "enough already"
clean-up time
He couldn't wait to get his hands on the vacuum.
A happier "after" pose, the next day.
