Halloween

We started celebrating Halloween early with Papa and Mima, on Thursday, Oct. 25. They hosted a fun dinner and party at their house.
Cat and Finger Sandwiches and Skeleton Veggies

After dinner, there were party games. Bobbing for apples . . .
 and pinata.
Candy Frenzy!
Kellen just wasn't sure what to do, but we helped him get plenty of candy. (See video 1412 in Halloween '12 pictures folder.)
 More bobbing for apples
Saturday, October 27, was trunk or treat at our church. A cute Fire fighter and Smokey the Bear came with me.
Mima had made him the bear costume and I added the jeans, hat, and "smokey" when I found out Jenna wanted to be a fire fighter. Mima made Jenna's costume, too.

One of Jenna's other friends was also a fire fighter.
Halloween Day - Trick or Treating started at 4pm in Downtown Monument, so we decided the earlier the better. Then, we met up with two families from church to eat at Souper Salad. All kids in costumes ate for free. Then we all went to church for a study we've been doing.
When Jenna decided to be a fire fighter, I dug out my old dalmatian costume from when I worked in children's day surgery in Austin. 2002, I think. She talked me into wearing it with her tonight. "Mommy, it's the real Halloween, and I need a dalmatian."
We even had a chance to pose with a fire truck. A fun Halloween!

Mother Goose Day

Thursday, October 25th, was Mother Goose Day at Jenna's school. The class has been learning all the rhymes and Thursday was the day they got to meet Mother Goose and recite one of her rhymes for her.
Mother Goose aka Mrs. Rachel O'Donnell, the Principal.
Jenna wanted to be Little Miss Muffett. We rigged a spider on some fishing line to hang off her hat. And she specifically wanted a pink dress because that's the color she colored Miss Muffett's dress on the coloring page.

Jenna is so good at memorizing things that I didn't have to work with her at all on the memorization. We did practice, but she had the memorization from the beginning. A little surprisingly, she got a little flustered at being in front of everyone and needed a little help getting started. (See video 3857 in Jenna Kinder 2012-13 pictures folder.)

Fall Visit

My parents got an itch to see some fall leaves and grandchildren, so they came to visit Oct. 18-21. We picked Jenna up from school on Thursday and treated her to Chick-fil-A. Kevin had Friday off, so we all went to breakfast at The Pantry and then drove up Pikes Peak Highway to the top of Pikes Peak.
14,110 ft and COLD! Too cold to stand outside and pose for pictures. I took this one from the car.
Friday night was the last home football game (unless there are playoffs). If you look really close, you can see part of a cut on Kellen's nose, right between his eyes. The week before, he lost his balance and fell face first into a sharp corner of a bleacher step. He got his first trip to the ER and some Dermabond - man, that stuff is amazing! Glad he didn't have to have stitches like we originally thought and so, so glad that his eyes weren't hurt.
Kellen was shoveling in the popcorn at the game!
Saturday, we took a trip into Old Colorado City for the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Jenna had to get a balloon ("puppy on a leash") and face painting. Of course!
Butterfly - her request
So pretty
A few of the giants. The one that one (not pictured) was 1200 some pounds.
Kellen was a good sport and was mostly interested in his goldfish. You can see his cut in this picture, too.
A silly pair

We had a yummy lunch at Rudy's, and then a good nap. Dad and Kevin went to the Air Force game and the rest of us ended up ordering pizza, renting a movie, and treating Kellen's after-nap fever.

Pumpkins

Visiting a pumpkin patch is a must for us each fall. While this one is not my favorite (fun things, but so brown), it turned out to be a pretty fun day.
Gourd launching - a pretty cool feature! (See video 3814 in Pumpkin Patch '12 pictures folder.)
Tractors!
It was a crown-wearing day, even when I made her wear a hat.
Hayride
Sliding. Jenna went by herself many times and at the end of our time worked up the courage to do the big slide, too. Kellen and I stayed with the smaller one.
Steer roping
That's my girl!
These little wheel barrows were so fun! And, you can see that this is not really a pumpkin patch (growing in the ground), but more of a pumpkin scatter.
That's my boy!
He decided the pumpkins made good seats.
Their picks. Kellen refers to his as, "Mine pum."
A fun feature for documenting their size
I was pretty proud of myself for pulling this trip off on my own with these two. It was a good way to spend a morning of fall break. All that fun, including pumpkins and a few gourds for $11. Thank you living social deals.

Fall Leaves Weekend

Jenna was out of school Oct. 4-12 for conference days and fall break. Kevin didn't have that break, but decided to take one day off. So, Thursday evening, Oct. 4th, we headed to the mountains for a long weekend.
Friday morning we bundled up and headed out for a hike in the woods. Jenna did a super job hiking. (Isn't her new coat so cute? I found it at a consignment sale, it came with a pink snow bibs, too. Only $20 for the set and I think it will last for next year, too.)
I love how evergreens look with a coat of snow.
The trail maps that Jenna made for us. I'm glad mine had the shorter route.
Sweetness
One of our weekend goals was to see some fall color. We did see some, but I think we were a few weeks past the peak. Many leaves had already fallen. Friday afternoon, Kellen would not take a nap, so we went for a swim and then for a walk around town.
This was a cool restaurant that was made to look like a boat.

So pretty

Kellen has this thing with slipping on other people's shoes. His favorite this weekend, were Jenna's flip flops.
Saturday morning, we went to the local children's museum, which turned out to be more of a children's play place. Kevin was a good sport being the patient. You know things are bad when you need a shot between your fingers.
Another medical professional was called in to consult.
On the stretcher preparing for his flight.
Flying to the hospital.
They were just too cute coloring together like this. At one point, Kellen had his legs exactly like Jenna's but, of course he changed position before I could get the picture.
Another afternoon walk around town.
Pretending to fall into the fire pit. Crazy girl. And see those little feet sticking out from her coat - Scruffy, of course!

We had a great time. Hiking. Swimming twice a day. Eating good food. An ice cream shop treat. And pretty fall colors.
