Saturday, August 6th - Kevin's uncle and family were in town and they went to the Garman museum. It makes me laugh that Jenna took this selfie with one of the sculptures! Meanwhile, instead of beginning my two weeks of actual summer, I was working my first clinical day.
Monday, August 8th - National Custard Day (or something like that) at Freddy's - a "small" for $1. I took the kids on a little surprise ice cream date. Can you believe that's a small?!
Tuesday, August 9th - Kevin and our kids and Geremy and Grant went to the Rockies game in Denver. (I was at clinical.)
Jenna took these next pictures. I love to see what she takes, her perspective.
Red frozen lemonade tongue!
Wednesday, August 10th - Kellen mastered the skill of being able to ride up the lip of the driveway! (See video 1952 in "Kellen 5 years old" folder)
Mima took the kids to the summer $1 movie to see Max while Kevin was working and I was at clinical. Then, Jenna found one of her dogs that looks like Max and printed a K9 badge for him so they could "play Max."
Thursday, August 11th - Jenna and Kellen had some fun with costumes and let me sleep in a little.
I was glad to have my first chance in months at a fun day with them. We went to the Money Museum and there was a special Olympic exhibit complete with medal podium and medals!
The lighting was great for the museum - not so great for a selfie!
Jenna - pretending to bite the gold medal just like she's seen the Olympians do - such a fun & funny girl!
Thursday night, we were finally able to let Jenna have a friend sleep over (she's been wanting to all summer.) We tried to go to the outdoor movie, but like the week before, it was rained out. We never did get to go to an outdoor movie this year. But, they watched some of it at home before getting tired. And then Friday morning, they had fun reenacting the greatest sword fight ever!
Friday afternoon, we had some great play time at home.
The sleep over was rough on Kellen - he slept HARD Friday night! This is how we found him when we checked on him before we went to bed.
Saturday, August 13th - We declared "Family Fun Day." Since I took the course to renew my nursing license this summer and we didn't really have a chance for a vacation just the four of us, we took the day to have and adventure and fun together.
First stop - Phillip S. Miller park in Castle Rock
This place is amazing! Lots of unique play equipment that adults can play on with their kids. And these cool chairs around fire pits. We'll have to go back in the fall and bring stuff for s'mores.
This obstacle course is called "Epic." And it looks so cool (and scary). We didn't try it that day, but we might sometime if we feel inclined to spend $49 each!
This four person teeter totter was one of our favorite things.
We ate lunch in Denver at Cafe Rio - a place I have been wanting to try. They have great Mexican food and lots of different drink options. We had to try them all! Strawberry Lemonade, Southwest Limeade, Mint Limeade, Horchata, and they have flavors you can add. So, I had to get a Diet Coke with Vanilla for the road!
After lunch, we went to the History Colorado Center in Denver. A museum we've been wanting to try. There is an exhibit about an old school house and you can take your picture and superimpose it onto an old year book picture. Jenna and Kellen had a blast playing with the pictures and then emailing the results to my email! So funny!
We all had a blast with this outhouse!
It's a two seater!
Kevin pulled out the reading material and I couldn't take the picture without laughing!
This barn with a loft you can climb up into and then slide down was fun.
And you could milk this cow
Light instead of milk filled the bucket
We could collect eggs from the chickens and turn them in at the general store.
There was a skiing exhibit with a ski jump simulator. It was really fun! (See video in Family Fun Day Summer '16 folder)
And, what would a Colorado History museum be without a tribute to the Broncos?
There was a special exhibit of Awkward Family Photos. It was hilarious!!!
So many funny ones. But this one - that hair!
There were several back drops and props to make your own Awkward Family Photos. So, we tried, but not sure how "awkward" we were.
But, we had fun trying. And these do make me laugh!
This couch was classic 70s gold floral. So, we tried to get one with all of us.
After the museum, we went to IKEA to try out their cafe for dinner and shop around. The shopping cart escalators were interesting and fun. It was a wonderful Family Fun Day!
Sunday, August 14th - We enjoyed a restful day and some Lego time.
Monday, August 15th - my last day to enjoy with the kids before school. We went to the North Pole. Kellen always likes to stop at the sleigh first and take a picture.
Jenna was sad that she's too tall now for these cars.
Ferris Wheel buddies!
They were excited to ride this one together - all by themselves!
Tuesday, August 16th - I put in another clinical day and the kids enjoyed a day with the cousins & Papa. Mini golf, lunch, and a movie. In the evening, we went to school to meet Jenna's teacher. And, tomorrow is Kellen's first day of school! So hard to believe that the day is already here.
