A Tale of Two Vacations - Day 10

Saturday, June 30th - The group took a train to Tasch
And then a cog railway to Zermatt
Such a picturesque village and a rare and beautiful day to view the Matterhorn!

SSSS - Kermit, the Green Coach mascot and The Matterhorn
I want to frame this one!

Last night in Switzerland - Swiss Party Time! Fondue Dinner

The entire group gathered for the dinner and the local people entertained them with traditional music and dancing. Four of the band director chaperones tried playing the alphorns and did an amazing job! (See videos in "CAM '18" folder.) I went on this same trip with Kansas ambassadors, 25 years ago and the Swiss Party night is one of my favorite memories.
Meanwhile, in Texas, we enjoyed the local Farmer's Market with Matt, Leslie, & Lincoln. The Beinets from The Beinet Bus were super yummy!
Then we went to watch Lincoln's swimming lesson and afterward, Matt & Leslie treated us to lunch at a local Pita place - it was really tasty! We went back to their house for Lincoln's nap and enjoyed some quiet time ourselves.
After nap time, we all went to the Fort Worth Stock Yards
We wandered back to where the stock is kept and this nice man came over for the kids to pet his horse.

It was hot! But, a really fun experience.

We loved watching the cattle drive. They do this twice a day.
There was a little pony ride set up, so we couldn't pass up Kellen's first chance to ride a horse!

Jenna and Lincoln rode, too.
We grabbed some pizza on the way home, ate it, and then Matt, Jenna, Kellen, and I were off to the Ranger's game!

It was a great night to be at the game. We saw a home run and stayed as long as we could - 10:35pm. The Rangers were ahead and won much after we left! Thankful for free tickets and great seats compliments of Leslie's work!

A Tale of Two Vacations - Day 9

Friday, June 29th - Kevin was off to the Castle of Chillon on Lake Geneva
The dungeon of the castle was made famous by the Lord Byron poem, "The Prisoner of Chillon."
Lake Geneva

SSSS - Lake Geneva. The Colorado Ambassadors of Music had their concert that evening in Crans-Montana. One of the best audience turn outs of the trip.

Meanwhile, we had a lazy morning of sleeping in and swimming. Ruthie treated us to some fun donuts and kolaches. Kellen became so much better at swimming while we were there and even learned to do a backward summersault. (See video in "Ft Worth '18" folder.) We enjoyed Rosa's for lunch - had to get as much Tex-Mex in as we could! Then, Matt picked us up to bring us to his house for the weekend.
We enjoyed Matt & Leslie's home and yard as we played with Lincoln while they went to a friend's going away party. And we REALLY enjoyed an early bedtime and good night's sleep!

A Tale of Two Vacations - Day 8

Thursday, June 28th - A full day of travel for Kevin. Pretty countryside from Paris to Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Katie, Sarah, Jenna, Kellen, & I spent the day at the Perot Museum in Dallas. The outside architecture is just as interesting as what's inside.
The ceiling in the atrium where you purchase tickets had these cool water molecules suspended - they raise up and down as you walk underneath them.

Really cool Prehistoric exhibit

The kids loved going to different kiosks creating different aspects of their unique bird and then seeing the results put together.
I think we could all agree that the Geode exhibit was our favorite. Kellen especially loved the red ones.

So many different types, textures, colors - fascinating!
This one was shades of brown until a florescent light was shone upon it, then it turned red and green.
This was a very large one that you could crank open and closed - really cool!
We had a little snack/lunch in the museum cafe and then back to the exhibits. Kellen enjoyed this balancing maze.
A brain, spinal cord, and nerves!
The kids loved this interactive screen - copying yoga stretches. There was also a dancing dinosaur interactive screen - the dinosaurs mirrored the kids' dance moves.
A virtual reality experience
This keyboard was cool. You could assign keys to play different instrument sounds and then when you played that key, the instrument above would play.

The both had so much fun racing a T-rex! You could also race different famous athletes or a cheetah. (See videos in "Ft Worth '18" folder.)
It took both Katie and I to get a decent score on the reaction time test.
After the museum, we stopped by Steel City Pops for a unique popsicle treat. Then we went back to the Keyes so the kids could swim some more.
Katie, Sarah, and I left the kids in the pool under Ruthie's watch as she graciously offered to keep the kids so we could have a dinner off on our own. We went to Chuy's and it did not disappoint!
While we were out, the kids were getting thoroughly spoiled by Bob & Ruthie! Dinner at Taco Bueno complete with cheesecake chimis and cinnamon chips. And THEN, Bahama Buck's Snow Cones. We knew it was time to head back home when they sent us the snow cone picture at 9:30pm.
This was our last night before going over to Matt, Leslie, & Lincoln's house for a few nights and the kids had been wanting to try out Katie's fancy jacuzzi bath tub. It takes 30 minutes to fill, but again, it's not a visit with the Keyes unless you have some late night adventures. We started filling it about 10 pm, so around 10:30 it was ready.

They loved the changing lights and the jets. And we loved their funny poses and watching them have so much fun!
