Fall Colors Adventure

Saturday, September 26th - We headed for the mountains in search of fall colors. We made a stop at Al Mart in Alma, CO for a junk food splurge. Everyone picked out one favorite. We came out with Chili Cheese Fritos (Kevin), Ranch Corn Nuts (me), Annie's Cheddar Snack Mix (Jenna), and Gummy Life Savers (Kellen).
Our destination - Steamboat Springs, CO. Our first time to visit here. I think we were a little late for the aspens here. But, we did see a bunch of beautiful color closer to Woodland Park and Breckenridge.
We arrived around 1:30 pm and immediately hiked Fish Creek Falls.
We love a hike that has water!

Some really pretty colors in the scrub oak and other foliage.

And, this Aspen grove was really beautiful!
Might have to frame this one.

The rock climbers

After nearly 2 hours - we made it to the upper falls!

So glad to be able to enjoy a perfect fall weather hike!

A "must pose" spot
We checked into our hotel around 5:15pm, then grabbed a quick dinner.
Then, we surprised the kids with an evening at the hot springs. It was really fun!

Sunday morning, we enjoyed a delicious creekside breakfast and then a short hike - Dry Lake loop.

And, a quick walk along the Yampa River in town before we needed to start heading home.

It was a beautiful drive.
A little late for the Aspens in some areas

But, brilliant closer to home near Woodland Park. So glad we were able to get away and experience the beauty!

September

Monday, September 7th - Labor Day. The girls were doing their Mima's Sew Fun time, so Papa, Kevin, Kellen and I went out to Rampart Reservoir for nature, a cookout, and some fishing. Kellen loved climbing up on the rocks!
It was beautiful, though a little hazy due to wildfire smoke.
My buddy

No luck fishing. And no luck with the cookout either. When we paid our fee at the booth, we asked about being able to have a fire - no fires. So, we ate veggie sandwiches on our buns and had raw s'mores. 'Twill be a funny memory!
It was so hazy from the fires on our way home!
It was so nice to enjoy a beautiful day on Monday. And it was so crazy to have a 50 degree change in temperatures and snow the next day!!
Tuesday, September 8th - I went to work and came home to this!
And, by Wednesday morning - this! It had been so warm, that nothing accumulated on the roads. Kids were sad to not have a delay or snow day. But, pretty fun to have some crazy snow in September!
Friday, September 11th - Jenna was invited to have a fun time with friends.
Monday, September 14th - Elementary had the day off for literacy testing. So, Mima, Heather, Madilyn, Kellen, and I went to the zoo. It was a beautiful day!

Kellen wanted me to take lots of pictures of him with the statues.
He loves the chickens!

The sloths were really active and cute! Really fun to see them.
And feeding the giraffes is always fun.
Wednesday, September 16th - TCA decided to have a trial of 7-12th grade online school on Wednesdays in order to give the teachers a sort of planning day (since secondary teachers are all teaching both online and in person). I was scheduled to work, so we asked if Jenna could do her work at Papa and Mima's house. Madilyn had an online day as well due to her class being quarantined, and Grant came over too. So, it turned out to be a big cousins online school day at Papa and Mima's house - PCA "Papa's Classical Academy!"

Kellen has loved climbing our tree this month! And Jenna has joined the fun as well!
Sunday, September 20th - Another warm, beautiful day. Kellen soaked it up with some running through the sprinkler time! Crazy to think that just 12 days ago it was snowing!
Tuesday, September 22nd - Kevin and Jenna took advantage of the beautiful weather with an after school bike ride.
