Swimming with the Sting Rays

Monday, May 31st - Jenna's birthday present day. SeaQuest and Swimming with the Sting Rays.
They had so much fun!

Sting rays and other fish in the tank as well.

Kellen loves to pose on this canoe.

Feeding the toucan and other animals was fun as well.

We took the scenic route home and stopped at the new Sandstone Ranch Open Space. It was really pretty!

Jenna 14.0

Jenna is 14 years old today! She is 63 1/4" inches tall. That's 2 and 1/8" inches growth this year! It's been quite a year - pandemic learning, quarantines, and disappointments. But, also joys. She has continued with piano lessons and trumpet. And she has done so well. I'm so proud of how she handled it all. She was so very responsible with at home school (she really did it ALL with very little help from us) and made good grades this year. Favorites include blueberries, the color green, dogs, Cosmo the hedgehog. And, The One and Only Ivan is still her favorite book. She still wants to be a vet. She likes playing driveway basketball.
She is organized with her school work and fun and light hearted in life. She is kind, funny, a good sister and daughter, and she loves God and others. She always brings the fun! So proud of our Jenna! Happy birthday!
We celebrated with family - her dinner choice - grilled chicken, fettuccine alfredo, salad, and blueberries. I love this picture - so much of her personality.

Cookie dough pie for dessert
She was in the process of completing first aid and CPR training - a first aid kit was a perfect gift from her aunt, uncle, and cousins!
Swimming with the Sting Rays at SeaQuest!

A hunt for her main gift from us. "I've always wanted a hunt for my gift."
Cell phone!
And another hunt from Papa and Mima! It was fun to celebrate Jenna!

Last Day of School

First and last day 8th grade for Jenna. Actually, last Thursday, May 20th was Jenna's last day, we just didn't know it at the time. She spent today finishing up some finals at home. She reminded us that she hasn't been at school on the last day since 5th grade! 6th grade, she was home with a stomach bug, 7th grade, everyone was home due to COVID school shut down, and 8th grade, COVID quarantine. Here's to next year!

First and last day 4th grade for Kellen. He was sad this morning about not seeing his friends all summer and didn't want to smile for his picture.
His teacher made it a special last day. She set up this photo op and our room mom took pictures, except Kellen forgot to get his taken. This is a great picture of his tutor and teacher, though! And, he enjoyed playing "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics in his music class talent show.

Some silly pictures from Jenna. She always brings the fun! We made it! So very glad to be done with this year!

May

Actually, not quite May. Thursday, April 29th to be exact, but it goes along with May events. I flew to DFW to ride with my friend Katie to our friend Dara's wedding. Bonus - we got to enjoy dinner and a visit with Matt, Leslie, Lincoln, & Carter! It was a treat!

Meanwhile, Kevin and the kids were starting a four day weekend with a trip to Scheels.
Friday, April 30th - Katie drove us to Waco where we met Sarah at Cafe Homestead for a most wonderful lunch. Seriously amazing food! This random rooster crossed our road in San Antonio on our way to take Sarah to visit another friend while we headed back to Boerne for Dennis & Dara's rehearsal dinner.

Saturday, May 1st - Dennis and Dara! It was a beautiful wedding! Not quite as they planned (outdoors) since it was raining more than I've seen in a long time. But, perfect, nonetheless!
Back to Ft. Worth Saturday night. We enjoyed some great chatting time and some good laughs over the ACU "Pessimist" published on April 1st. Flight back to Denver on Sunday. So very good to be with these friends!!

Sunday, May 2nd - Made it home with 45 minutes to spare before leaving for piano recital!

Kellen played Building a Tree House and At Sea.

Jenna played Hang Gliding and Birch Tree Rag.
It was a Nature and Adventure themed concert and the waterfall & vines were really cool! So glad to be able to have a recital again!

Wednesday, May 5th - Dress up day for 4th grade music concert.

Thursday, May 6th - Patriot Day in 4th Grade! - Kellen was John Hancock and did such a great job!

Different than normal years where the kids set up their tri-folds in the atrium and they pretend to be statues until someone "pushes their buttons." Then, they come to life and tell all about their characters. Parents and visitors weren't allowed this year. So thankful for our room mom/talented photographer that was able to go and take pictures for all of us!
Also, Thursday, May 6th - Mountain Lab for 8th grade!

Team Red!

Also different than normal years - usually they stay overnight. But, thankful they were able to experience this on a smaller scale and they had so much fun! Jenna and Aubrey won the science competition!

Ziplining and general fun!

Orienteering and hiking

Beautiful!

Daddy and daughter - Leap of Faith (Jenna's favorite)! Such a fun time had by all!
Thursday evening, we celebrated my birthday with the family at Thursday night dinner (Kellen wanted a picture with me).
Friday, May 7th - Jenna was out of school, so we enjoyed Chick-fil-A for breakfast, mini-golf, and a sonic drink while Kellen was in school.
Week of May 10th - Another big week! Mother's Day, then perhaps our last snow on Monday and Tuesday.

Tuesday, May 11th - 8th grade BBQ (in place of the traditional dinner/dance). Was supposed to be outside to be more COVID friendly than the dinner/dance would have been. Weather made it be inside anyway! They enjoyed BBQ.

And dodgeball - the "official" game of TCA! The teachers faced the "jocks" and won. Kevin got the winning hit!

Wednesday, May 12th - Colorado History Day - a dress up day and virtual field trip to the Colorado History Museum. Kellen agreed to a smiley picture and then needed a "cowboy face" picture, too.
Thursday, May 13th - Kellen fractured his radius and ulna when he fell while rollerblading and playing basketball. He was very brave and quite a trooper.
Friday, May 14th - Ready & excited for Medieval Day at school!

Medieval day - possibly my favorite curriculum day! The sets they created are so great! Stepping over the drawbridge to enter into Medieval times. "Shirinwood" forest, the marketplace, the monastery, and the castle. So amazing!

Knighted "Sir Kellen" in the castle.

So thankful for my friend who is room Mom and a wonderful photographer who could go and take pictures!

Saturday, May 15th - We were very grateful to the El Pomar Foundation who provided a free ticket to health care providers and $5 tickets for their guests to our new Olympic and Paralympic Museum.

We loved the display of Olympic torches.

And the simulators.

Cool memorabilia - Michael Johnson's golden shoes and Kristi Yamaguchi's figure skate.
And the medals!

Such a great museum!
Monday, May 17th - 12 hour NICU shift and I was sad to miss Field Day because of it. Glad to have some pictures from other parents.

Tuesday, May 18th - Cast Day!
And, our first hummingbird of the season!
Tuesday evening, Jenna had a fun activity with her friends. So, the three of us went to dinner, then to Scheels to ride the ferris wheel.
Our tree is blooming beautifully this week!

Thursday, May 20th - We got the sad, sad news that Jenna would be quarantined and have to miss the band concert that we've been waiting for all year. The only concert this year. Her last opportunity to have a concert with her Daddy as her primary conductor. And, she had one of the improv solos. So very sad to miss this special concert that we had been looking forward to for so long.

Monday, May 24th - We got Jenna's negative COVID test results for her to go back to school on Tuesday. 2 hours after we received the approval for her to go back, she gets ANOTHER quarantine notice and she's out of school for the year. So unbelievable and sad! Then, Kevin found out about a school commitment on Tuesday night, when I already had a 12 hour shift scheduled. So, we had some scrambling to do for kid care.

Tuesday, May 25th - I went to my 12 hour shift. Kevin took Kellen to school. Jenna stayed home by herself for a few hours until Aunt Heather could pick her up and bring her to their house. Our neighbor that we usually carpool with picked Kellen up from school and brought him to our house where Mima picked him up, then went to get Jenna and brought them both to her house for the evening. Kevin was done at school around 7pm, then went to get the kids, and we all arrived home around the same time. Whew!

Wednesday, May 26th - Thunderbirds! Always one of the best days of the year!
Jenna spent the rest of Wednesday working on her Ancient Civ final project.

And Kellen, at school, enjoyed performing "The Merchant of Venice." So thankful for teachers and room moms this year who took pictures and videos as parents were not allowed to come to events.

Wednesday evening, we enjoyed dinner with Mima's brother Steve and his wife Tammy visiting from South Carolina.
