Time

Time it takes to:

feed S & V breakfast - 40 minutes
get everyone dressed: up to 3 hours
comb S's hair: up to 40 minutes
feed S a snack: 2 minutes
"run" to the grocery store for 1 missing ingredient: 45 minutes
V to sing herself to sleep: 10 minutes
get S to use the bathroom before we go anywhere: 20 minutes (and sometimes a treat)
take a kid-free shower or bathroom break: 0.25 minutes

I used to be so efficient with my time.  I could accomplish a huge list of things in just a few hours.  As we have added children to the mix, my life has exponentially slowed down.  I spend most of my time talking to what often feels like the wall.  I must say the same things 3,000 times a day.  I must say the word, "NO" 10,000 times a day.  Now I know why my Mother used to use words like, "cross", "crazy", "screaming-mimi", and "grounded" regularly.  There really are days that I would like to run out the door screaming.  I can totally picture Savannah's face if I did that.  Her eyes would be big and bright, and she wouldn't know whether to laugh or to cry.  And for once, she wouldn't have anything to say for a few minutes.  I know this for sure, because she is a mini-me and that's how I would be, only on the other side of the door.
Thankfully I took my Mom's advice years ago when she said this:
"Keep a little file of some of your college exams and papers that you wrote and did well on.  Someday, when all you do all day is change diapers, sweep the kitchen floor and clean up messes over and over again, you'll have something to look back on and remember that you used to be SMART."

Time to open the file.

What did you do last night?

Did you sip some hot cocoa?
Did you have a little fire in your fireplace?

We went on a maiden voyage.   And we had the whole place to ourselves.  (And the water was 80 degrees.)

I forgot her suit.  She insisted on swimming.  Why not???

Can't wait to do it again tomorrow.

The other day

S's latest:  When V wakes up from nap, climb into crib and play for a few minutes.

(The binky is just a toy.)

Until V can't stand it any more.

S asked me if she could "skeet".
"What???"  I said.
"Skeet, you know with long things on my feet, and you do it in snow."
Got it.  We made some skeets and have been skeeting all over the house.

V is getting so big--playing standing up now.
S is generally a joy to have around.

You know it's the south when...

Savannah said:  "I am going to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween but someone at preschool said he was going to be a race car driver."

Nice.

Not a good friend...

In the car on the way home from preschool:

me: Did you have fun playing with Lucy today at school?
S: Yes, but I want her to come over and play at our house right now.
me: Well, everyone is heading home and VA needs to nap.  It is so fun to have Lucy for a friend.  She is such a good friend.
S: (in her most tired, oversensitive voice) SHE IS NOT A GOOD FREIND!!!  SHE IS A BEST FRIEND!   (sob sob)
me: Right.  She sure is.

Nothing

quite like watching Daddy mow the lawn on Saturday morning.  What a show!!
Virginia is glued, every time.  It's like she's watching a tennis match.  Her head follows him walk back and forth by the window.  And she yells at him at the top of her lungs the whole time.  Non-stop.  It is almost as noisy in the house as out.

This was our first honeycrisp apple of the year.  Ahhh, my favorite.  It was ENORMOUS and took her a full 2 hours to devour a half of it.  VA is still glued to the window looking for Trevor.
I'm sure we'll do it all over again this Saturday.

I think of you,

Grandma J, every time I see her sitting like this:

Only you can still bend your knees this way.  She's yours!!!  :)
