Big Girl

Eleanor just loves sitting in the chairs in our living room. She tries to climb on them everyday. Of course, I just had them recovered in non- baby friendly fabric!

A New Use for Our Favorite Toy

The pictures say it all!

Potty Time

I let Eleanor crawl around on the bathroom floor while I dress in the mornings, and the other day I heard a splash and looked over and to my complete horror, she was splashing in the toilet!! I had thrown some tp in the toilet and she flung it across the bathroom. Am I a horrible mom???

Dancing Queen

Eleanor LOVES to dance now. Anytime her toys play music or I sing to her (terrible!), she dances away by bouncing up and down and rocking her head. Every time she dances, I say Dee- Da, Dee-Da as my mom said to us when we were young and that also makes her dance. It is so much fun watching her and knowing that she understands more things around her.

Granny Ora's Birthday

Opening presents

Playing with cousin Gus

On Saturday, we traveled to Waco for Granny Ora's 89th birthday. Most of Scott's family was there including his other grandmother Tutu (who Eleanor is named for). We tried for many pictures with Eleanor and the grandmothers, but she was being very clingy to mommy.

Eleanor and the other children got early Christmas presents from Scott's cousins and aunts. She had a BALL opening the gifts and cared much more about the paper and tissue than what was inside! She loved playing with cousins Gus and Caroline too.

8 Months Old

Today is Eleanor's 8 month birthday! I can hardly believe how fast she is growing! She looked bigger to me today when she woke up!

Eleanor's First Thanksgiving and First Tooth!

Grandmommy & Eleanor

Thanksgiving Day

We had a fun week leading up to Eleanor's first Thanksgiving. Gigi and Grandmommy (my Dad's mom- Eleanor's great grandmother) were here all week. She spent time in the kitchen helping us cook and tasting new things. She enjoyed playing with Grandmommy as it was the first time she had seen her since she was 3 months old. She has grown so much since then!

On Thanksgiving afternoon, Eleanor reluctantly let me check her gums (I check weekly for teeth) and there was a tiny little tooth on the bottom right breaking through! I was so happy, shocked and a little sad. She had shown zero signs of teething. Today, she is a little whiny and cranky, but otherwise in good spirits.

Growing SOOO Fast!

Every 2 months or so, I sadly pack up clothes and items that Eleanor has outgrown. I get teary everytime, but this time she brought many smiles and laughs to make mommy feel better. She loved playing in the plastic box and played peek-a-boo and laughed like crazy.

Our First Christmas Shopping Trip

SOOOOO tired
Shopping away!

Sunday we went Christmas shopping at Northpark. Although we frequent NP, there were SO many more people it seemed and Christmas decor was abundant. Eleanor was a trooper as mommy, Gigi, Poppy, and Aunts Lynne and Caroline hit every store. When we finally broke for lunch, she was SO happy to be in the highchair! Afterwards, she didn't even make it home to crash!

Food- NOW!

You can't tell, but she was screaming!

In between bites of food, Eleanor literally screams for more! She can't even wait for us to spoon out another bite. You would think that we starve the poor baby. Her favorite foods right now are green beans, carrots, peas, prunes, apples, pears, blueberries and raspberries. We are excited to start some meat this weekend!

Playtime

We can't get enough of watching little Eleanor and all of the funny things she does. She loves to take her toy basket and stand over it and take each toy out one by one, examine it and then, throw it. Also, she will stand over it and dump out all of the toys then decide which ones to play with and the ones to move out of the way!

Visit to Gigi and Poppy's House

This weekend, we went to Longview to see the Simpson grandparents, Gigi (pronounced shee-shee by my mom), and Poppy. Eleanor got into many things and saw lots of fun people. I took her up to Gigi's school on Friday to meet the first grade class and they all loved her! They each wanted their own turn hugging her.

She was also very into the pumpkins on the fireplace at the house and pulled herself up to get them whenever we turned our heads. Her other favorite thing to do was sit by the glass back porch door and laugh at the dogs.

Eleanor's First Halloween

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Eleanor's playgroup had a party at the Morris' house on Wednesday before Halloween. Eleanor and her friends were all in adorable costumes! She actually handled the costume better than we thought she would and only cried when we made her sit on the couch. The adults had fun drinks and apps.

Eleanor & Caden
Eleanor going in for the steal

Today we had fun chasing Benson and trying to steal his toys all day long! His favorite toy, the beaver, was the one she was set on having. He would swoop in right before she got to it and take it away! Too cute.
Last night, Caden Evans came over to play and have dinner. Eleanor and Caden were both pulling up on everything and loved playing with the kitchen utensils. They are both growing so fast. Last time they played, the were both just lying beside each other on the play mat. Now we have to chase them around!

Eleanor's First Slumber Party

After a full day of watching the UT game at the Henry's, we went to Aunt Lynne and Caroline's Halloween Party. Eleanor was the star of the party with her crawling and giggling and screaming (her favorite thing to do to get attention). Mom and Dad had too good of a time and decided it was best to spend the night there, so Eleanor camped out in Aunt Caroline's room in her pack n play. The next morning, she had the best time crawling around on blankets and pillows in the living room and having donuts and coffee with the family. She is excited to spend the night with them again soon!

Eleanor is Pulling Up on Everything

I thought we had a LONG way to go until this happened, but two days after crawling, she started pulling up on everything including her cruising toy, daddy's hands, my knees, coffee table etc! I am freaking out and feel the need to sit behind her at all times because I am so afraid she is going to hit her head :) The most adorable time was in her crib. We walked in after a nap and she was standing and smiling and playing peek - a boo with us. She is growing so fast and I can't keep up!

Mama's Girl

In other news this past week, Eleanor has started crying every time I leave a room. While flattering, she is SO dramatic about it. Between this and crawling I know my hours of free time will be less and less in the coming months!

Eleanor Is Crawling!!!

On Friday, October 17th, Eleanor started crawling! She had been scooting on her tummy for about 2 weeks so we knew it would not be long, but it was still shocking to see her go! She will crawl and then kick her right leg out to the side like a kick stand. The first thing she crawled towards was my beer sitting on the floor next to me and knocked it over. :)

Eleanor Anne Eats Solids

Last week, Eleanor turned 6 months old and with that, we started baby food! So far we have had green beans, peas, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. She loves green beans best and is enjoying drinking from her sippy cup. She is such a big girl and tries to hold her own spoon which makes a huge mess!

New Favorite Toys

Eleanor probably has a hundred toys that we or her grandparents have bought her. However, things found around the house are way better! She loves any kitchen utensils, bowls, remote controls, cell phones - anything that is not a baby toy. Her favorite is a stainless mixing bowl. She can chew on it, put toys in and dump them out and bang on it. Guess we can stop buying expensive toys for awhile!!

Eleanor's First Football Season

Saturday was the start of Eleanor Anne's first football season! The Morris fam and the Henrys came over to watch the Longhorns play. Eleanor and Wright got to play and see a little of the game before bedtime. Wright was showing Eleanor all of his crawling and pulling up moves and they were decked out in their UT gear. If Eleanor's personality is anything like her daddy's, this will be her fav time of year!

Eleanor May Be a Little Spoiled.....

Saturday Scott and I were sitting on the couch with Eleanor Anne and witnessed for the first time our sweet little girl acting a bit spoiled. She was fascinated with typing on the computer and having a grand time when daddy pulled it away. Bottom lip stuck out as far as possible followed buy the loudest scream! We could not figure out what in the world was wrong. We put the computer back in front of her and silence! She was NOT done playing with it. Since Saturday I have seen her do this with several things- a box of crayons at Nordstrom Bistro, with mommy's coke zero and some toys. Just imagine when she can talk and really "needs" something!

The Great Rollover of 2008 and other milestones!!

Eleanor Anne, being the shy girl she is, decided that rolling over was meant for her eyes only. She went down for a nap yesterday afternoon after we returned from Longview. I heard her "I'm awake!" signal (crying) and decided to go and check on her. I found she had rolled over onto her stomach from her back!

We had a fun trip to Longview where Eleanor got to see the Ruston, La. family again and have a nice steak dinner at Superior Steakhouse in Shreveport for her Aunt Lynne's birthday. Her first time in Louisiana was a success because she also accomplished the rare feat of constipation and unconstipation. It appears too much rice cereal leads to blockage but one ounce of prune juice does the trick.

So like her mommy, Eleanor has found a love of wine (or at least the glass!). She grabs for any glass, on the table or in our hands, and pouts when she cannot suck on the rim of it. Too cute, but a little early for the booze!

In other news, Eleanor has successfully let go of the swaddle! We thought the combo of unswaddling, rice cereal and establishing a new wake up time would be difficult, but it went quite well. She is sleeping like the little angel that she is from 7:30pm and to 7:00 am and loves the freedom of being unswaddled. All is going well. Now, if we can just get that rollover to take place under our watch.

Mr. Mom

So Tuesday was my first day all alone with the wonderous Eleanor because Elizabeth was in the office. I had rented several movies to bide my time while she slept, although Elizabeth has said she does not nap well during the day and occasionally will wake up from a nap about 45 minutes after going to sleep.

The first nap of the day started it off right. She slept 2 and a half hours! She was almost 45 minutes past the time she was supposed to eat. I figured this was a good thing since she should be eating every four hours now instead of every three.

I also thought to myself that this may be the best nap she has all day because the first morning nap usually is. This turned out to be true, but only somewhat. She continually slept 2 hours after feeding and playing for about an hour. I had to actually wake her up for her feeding once more during the day.

This trend stopped Wednesday when our nanny Alisha arrived. Eleanor decided to sleep about one hour at a time for Alisha except of course for the lunchtime nap. Elizabeth and I came home for lunch and while we were there I put her down for a nap. Again, she slept two hours. Apparently, I have the magic touch :)

Back to Tuesday, she completed a half-rollover from stomach to back. I rolled her from her back to her stomach and she kept one arm propped underneath her during this exchange. When she had enough leverage, she actually rolled back over onto her back. It was pretty cool and she was very excited.

I also learned that Eleanor Anne is camera shy. I have no idea where she gets this trait from ;) When I tried to video another rollover, she did not do it. When the end of the day was coming around, she began talking up a storm. I thought it would be great to catch all of this talking on camera, but the moment the camera came on, the talking stopped. She is so smart. She already doesn't want anything she says used against her in the press.

All in all, it was a great day. This Mr. Mom thing is easy. I have no idea why these women complain about staying home with the kids. It's feeding, playing and watching movies. Sounds like the life to me.

Trip to Plano

Saturday night we went to Plano to have dinner and spend the night with the Hanna family - Cat, Travis and Turner. Travis and Scott met in business school and Cat and I had our babies a month and a half a part.

Turner and Eleanor had so much fun! Eleanor smiled at Turner and he laughed at her. They watched videos together and Turner shared his playmat with Eleanor. She is really starting to notice other babies. It is so neat to see her reaction to their gurgles and vice versa!!
