About an hour after the kids had been put to bed (and Sam had already had another trip to the potty), I turned to see Sam standing in the doorway of my room.
"Sammy you need to get back in your bed."
"Nope, cuz I gots to go potty."
"No, you don't, I just took you 10 minutes ago."
"Well, that's my problem, cuz my peep's telling me I gots to go potty."
"I just think you need to go to sleep buddy."
"Nope, that's not what my peep's tellin' me!"
Well, how do you argue that logic?
p.s. how do you suppress the giggles and keep a semi-straight face?
You gotta love that kid!

sisters
Yesterday, Stella, Evelyn and I were ready for bed and watching a program on television. When Sam came in from being outdoors with Daddy, he needed help getting ready for bed. I sat Evelyn down on the couch next to Stella and left them together while I went to help Sam.
When I came back down a few minutes later, I found Stella holding Evelyn, quietly patting her back. She said, "Shhh, mom, Evvie is asleep."
What a sweet little scene! Two sisters together, so comfortable and cozy that the baby can just drift off to sleep.
How blessed I am to have these sweet sisters in my life.

hooray!
I've been waiting a couple of weeks, to see if it was really true, to announce that we have another potty-trained child.
Yessiree, we have done it! The little man has finally decided that, "big boys wear unnies, like uncle Marcus."
This time around ( we tried during the winter once) it only took a couple of intense days of reminders and rewards and a couple of #2 accidents.
So, we happily applaud Sam for his efforts! What a big boy!

He continues to amaze and amuse us with his capabilities and sense of humor. We just love this little guy!

can we talk?
A couple of weeks ago, Stella and I went out to lunch. Just the two of us. It was a special day for her and I wanted to show her the she was special to me. We rarely get time alone, so this was an event. She chose the place and I drove...
On the way there she said, "Mom, will we have time to talk? Cuz I have lots of questions about things."
I replied, "Sure, baby. We'll talk."
She wanted to know about driving a car, my favorite food, what I did at her age, what kindergarten will be like, who my friends are etc. She thought of great things to talk about.
Our lunch went on in this fashion. Sitting across from each other, eating, talking, asking questions and learning about each other.
I had the most enjoyable time with her.

Since that night, as I pass her room, after tucking everyone into bed, I will hear a little voice say, "Mom, can we talk?" I go in and we chat.
I hope that I will always be able to say to her, "Sure baby. We'll talk."
I hope that she will always feel close enough to me to be able to share her thoughts and ask her questions.
I love you my Stelly girl...

eight
the time i put evelyn to bed last night.
i went back in at 11:30pm because i needed her to eat, she did, without even opening her eyes.
eight
the number of hours she slept after the 11:30 feeding, in her bed, quiet and peaceful.
one
time that we checked on her to make sure she was breathing (because we were already up with other kids)
lots
of energy for me today! solid, uninterupted sleep has become like an elusive unicorn in my life. something you hear of but only hope to see yourself.
maybe we're on a roll...

baby girl
Sweet Evelyn is now seven months.Time is moving too quickly...
She continues to be the sweetest baby.
She is growing the most adorable chub, weighing in at 18lb 2oz.
She sit and leans and bends and has a great fascination with eating things, including her toes.
She has started eating some cereal. It is fun to watch her carefully pick up each piece with her thumb and forefinger and manipulate it into her mouth. She usually ends up with a few pieces stuck to other parts too.
Evelyn has started standing in her saucer to play a little while mama gets a few things done. She likes grabbing at the toys and spinning around. You can see the nice little chubs growing on her legs (our specialty). She has taken to having at least one great nap a day in her swing.
She has a chuckle for us when we tickle her sides.
It is dangerous to hold her on my lap while sitting at the table because she will quickly grab what's in front of you and pull it right off.
Oh those dimples! They still just melt me...
