Hungry Girl

I was watching Rachael Ray this morning and she had a guest on there that I found rather intresting. Her name is Lisa and she is the Hungry Girl. I checked out her website and it is awesome. So for those of you who like to cook you may want to check this out. I am going to be trying some of her receipes very soon. She takes those greasy, sugary, high in calories and fat foods and makes them a lot lighter. Check out her website at hungry-girl.com

She gives lots of "Tips and Tricks for Hungry Chicks".
For a girl that loves food....I can't wait to try these receipes.
Let me know what you think if you try any or if you have already tried some.
I'll keep you posted.

Santa Claus Came to Town...

WoW...Santa was oh so Good to us! My Santa, being the good Lord above, blessed us with many gifts this season. The best gift being Kale. This was his first Christmas and it was so FUN! He enjoyed all the presents and had some precious expressions. Let's start from the beginning. Bare with me....it's his first Christmas so there are lots of pictures. I narrowed it down, but there were lots to narrow from. : )

He's nestled in his bed waiting for Santa!

Santa Came

He made a bee-line to the toys Santa brought!

Then his Christmas began! Here are some of my favorite pictures from Christmas. We had a blast!

That was Kale's first Christmas in a nutshell. He got lots of toys and Will and I were so glad Santa didn't go ALL out, cause everyone was right when they said Grandparents will make up for it. They did, and he ended up with a ton of toys. Will and I also got lots of fun stuff too. I got some great clothes, new watch, and a pretty cool initial pendant. Will got new boxers, some tools, orginization stuff for the garage, and we both got money! The best part was spending time with family and friends. I hope you all had a Blessed Christmas as well!

These are a few of my favorite things...

So I have decided to do a post of some of my favorite things!

Item number 1. A Great Pair of Heels
I have purchased several great pair of heels and I love love love wearing them. There is something about a nice pair of heels that makes you feel so put together. I have begun purchasing some colorful ones. I have a fun pair of red ones for the holidays. I have discovered that red goes with a lot of things. These above are a pair of purple Kate Spade. I could never afford them but aren't they AWESOME!

Item Number 2. A Fun Handbag
Just as the shoes a fun handbag is always necessary to have. I have found this Kate Spade and fell in love with it. Again...can't afford it but I sure can admire it.

Item Number 3. Pandora Bracelet
If you love charm bracelets, then you will L-O-V-E this. Pandora bracelets are new and improved charm bracelets. I don't own one yet, but I hope to REAL soon. There are two possible upcoming dates where I can be the new owner of a Pandora bracelet...Dec. 25th and Jan. 26th (my birthday). It would be a great surprise!

Item Number 4. Initial Necklace
I recieved an initial necklace for my birthday last year and I wear it all the time. It is a very simple and elegant piece of jewelry. The above one is from Tiffany Co, however you can find them other places more affordable. You should get one and initial your neck : )

Item Number 5. Knitted Scarves
I have several scarves and I love wearing them. The only thing I struggle with is being hot natured. This causes me not to want to wear them. So, I wear the heavy ones out in the cold and the light weight ones inside throughout the day. They are a great accessory.

Item Number 6. Pajama Pants
I absoutley love my pj pants. I own several pair and love finding new ones. My favorite ones I own are my Victoria Secret ones. I love getting cumfy in my pj pants and snuggling on the couch with my next favorite item.

Item Number 7. Hot tea and Coffee
I love getting in my pj's and settling on the couch with a hot cup of tea and waking up to a hot cup of coffee. Two of my favorite teas are mint and lemon ginger. My favorite coffee is Guatamalan and Pumpkin Spice. If you ever want to go have tea or coffee give me a call. I am always up for it.

Item Number 8. LUSH Bath Bombs and Soaps.
I received these two things as a Christmas gift this year. They are awesome. Unfortunatley the stores are not so close to me. Guess I am going to have to visit the website. They have tons of great fragrances. Enjoy your bath!!

Item Number 9. Leather Baby Shoes
I have been buying these for my 11 month old and they are awsome! My son hates wearing hard bottom shoes, but he loves these. They streach to fit his foot. Not only are they cumfy, but they are cute....they come with all kinds of cute designs. You can find them in many places. Get some for your tot and let them learn to walk on clouds.

Item Number 10. Alligator Embroidered Longalls
I have come to love embroidered longall and shortalls. The above ones are from a website called Best Dressed Child. I liked them because they are alligators scattered about. I usually get ones that are embrorided on the chest. Another website to visit for embroidered longalls and shortalls is The Pink Poppy Seed. This is a very good friend of mine and she does GREAT work!

Item Number 11. Footed Pajamas
I love putting footed pajamas on my baby. They keep them warm all through the night and I don't have to worry about keeping socks on him. This are especially fun because the feet are monkeys.

I hope you have enjoyed some of my favorite things. I look foward to seeing your favorite things. I am sure I will have more to come.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

So Behind!

So it is now December 23, Christmas Eve is TOMORROW, and I have yet to get my Christmas cards out. My heavens, I am so behind. I guess it's a good thing they say Merry Christmas AND Happy New Year! At least I know they'll get to people before the new year. So for all of you who haven't gotten it yet...it's coming I promise. It didn't help that the computer crashed too.
Presents, I have gotten all the shopping done, I think...
Then again Christmas Eve is tomorrow and I haven't wrapped a single one. Guess I'll be doing that tonight. Ha!
There is no excuse for myself...I have been so nonchillant (sp) this year.
The funny thing about Christmas is....Ready OR Not, here it comes!

I MADE IT!!

Well I made it through yesterday with a room full of very energized 6 and 7 year olds. Sixteen of them to be exact. Now I am at home on my cumfy couch in my jammies. I get to spend the next two weeks at home with my baby!
So along with not having to be at work, I am loving being at home because my house is finally all decrated for Christmas. Take a look below at my decorations!

I also have Kale's stuff up. His picture ornament, a K ornament I painted for him and his Pottery Barn stocking! Loving it! Now just got to get some presents under that tree!

Jumping for Joy!

That's right...I'm jumping for joy because I only have 4 days left (technically 3 since I stayed home with my sick baby today) before Christmas Break. This is the time of year I love for more than one reason. I love doing all the fun Christmas stuff in my classroom with my kiddos. We make ornaments, paint t-shirts, Ride the Polar Express (HHE's version) in our jammies, and drink hot chocolate, sing Christmas Carols, do fun gingerbread and Christmas activities, and Christmas Party! It truley is a fun time of year. BUT the other part that I love, love, love is Winter Break. As much as I love being with my kids at school, I need a break. Actually we all need a break. I need a break from them, them from me and them from each other. For those of you out there who think teachers have a "breeze" job....let me give you an idea of our "breeze" job. Yes school is over by 2:45, but we have lesson plans to do, papers to grade, parents to call, preparation for the next day, copies to make, emails to answer, our rooms to straighten, bulletin boards to decorate, student's work to hang, meetings to attend and I could go on, and on, and on! Half of the time we end up taking work home with us. So yes the kids leave by 2:45 but teachers keep on working. Yes we get a Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Break but I think we deserve it. If you want to see what it is really like....come visit me in my classroom. I will put you to work, I can always use an extra pair of hands.
I went off on a tanget....sorry!
So I am so excited that I only have 3 days before I get to be home (notice I didn't say off) for two weeks. I get to be home with my baby!
I hope everyone is having a great Holiday Season!

Sick Baby

Kale is sick! No Fun! Kale woke me up at 2:30am Wednesday morning coughing, fussy, and feverish. The next morning the fever had subsided, but Will still stayed home iwth him. Will = 45 sick days Steph = 1 1/2 sick days...the decision for Will to stay home. Glad he has them. So we thought he was going to be okay then last night came and it was L    O     N    G! I got him down at 9:30 and Will and I got in bed at 10:30. The time our head hit the pillow (literally), Kale started fussing. Finally got him calmed and back to sleep by 12:00am. The next morning his fever was back...101.1. It was up to 103 by 9:30...but it was time for the Dr. Thank goodness! At the Dr. we found out that he has RSV. Double Yuck! His is on antibotics and breathing treatments. The bad thing about it is there is nothing we can give him for the cough, because of his age. So I pray he can sleep better tonight. Nighttime is the worst.
Tomorrow is Friday....yay!!

Monday, December 7, 2009

So Kale had his 9 month check up today. He only had to get one shot which was good. I hate hearing him cry when they stick him. He was 23lbs and 8oz and 30 1/4 inches long. I was told I can start giving him more table foods. We have already been giving him a little and he LOVES it. There is nothing we have given him yet that he doesn't like. Heck he would eat the dog food if I let him.
On another note...behavior to be exact...I gained some pretty good information. I got a 9 months checkup sheet that talked a good bit about discipline. The information confirmed what I was already doing. There are three different ways in which people raise a child these days.
1) The distraction method
2) the "baby proofing" method
3) the say "no" then pop their hand method.
The distraction method simply rewards the behavior that you don't want. If you continue to distract him you are rewarding him with two things...your attention and a toy, book or other fun thing. If you keep rewarding him you are causing the behavior to be repeated.
The "baby proofing" method is moving the items you don't want them to touch out of reach. This is only teaching him he can play with anything he can get his hands on. This may work for home, but what about when you go places. This is not teaching him the things he can and cannot handel.
The say "no" then pop their hand method is teaching what you want. However, there are several "don'ts"
~Don't yell. Use a calm firm voice.
~Don't move him away. He needs to learn to leave it alone.
~Don't ask. Asking implies he has a choice.
~Don't threaten. Just tell him, "No!"
~Don't tell him twice. The most frequent mistake parents make is repeating comands.
When he leaves that 'thing' alone you can praise him.
However, if he doesn't leave it alone, then you need to give his hand one spank...hard enough to make it sting. If he cries, pick him up and hold him. Explain to him what just happened by telling him " I told you to leave that alone. You disobeyed me. Whenever you disobey me I am going to spank you. But I still love you very much." He won't understand at 9 months all the words but he will eventually. If he touches it again go through the same routine again, but if it happens a third time you sneak up on him and spank his hand. This will get the point across to him that the plant is off limits even before Mamma says anything, even when Mamma is not in the room.
I have to say I have been doing the say no then pop their hand since six months and Kale already understands the word 'no'. He has even gotten to the point of when I say 'no' and he continues and I got to get up to spank his hand he will drop what ever it is, whine and crawl away.
I only get one shot at this so I want to do it right. It has only just begun!

Beginning new traditions

Tis the season. I'm so excited for the Christmas season this year. Partly because it's Kale's first Christmas, but we are also beginning some new Christmas traditions for the Henderson family! I am beginning a photo ornament collection for Kale. I will purchase a new photo ornament with the year and put his Christmas picture for the year in it. His first one is already on the tree. I have also ordered his first Christmas stocking from Pottery Barn.

It is the traditional red and ivory stocking, but I love it. I have gotten his name monogrammed on it. I can't wait for it to come in and hang it on the mantel.
We have also already gone and gotten christmas pictures taken. We went to Portorait Innovations in Augusta. We were very pleased.

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I can't wait to continue lots of these traditions each year. Pictures of the Henderson's house decorations to come!
