Happy Haunting

So I decided I need to get up a blog about Halloween before Thanksgiving gets here. So this year I decided to make Kale's Halloween costume. I wanted him to be the infamous Cookie Monster because he loves, loves, loves him some cookies. So I thought it would only be appropriate. So to begin I went and found some fleece on sale at a local fabric store. I got way to much but oh well. Then I found a stocking hat at Target for $1. Thread and ping pong balls and a borrowed sewing machine and I'm ready to begin. So I had to figure out just how I was going to do with with NO pattern. So I got one of Kale's over sized jackets and traced it onto the felt. Then I began sewing. I can't even tell you what to do first or how I did it, but it actually came out great. I sewed the main part of the shirt then added the hat and sewed it in. Hot glue some ping pong balls with black circles drawn on and add some Target sweat pants and you get this.

Pretty darn cute if I do say so myself! He loved it and so did I! So if you get an itch to make something fun like this for a special occasion I say go for it....you just might surprise yourself!

God Bless!!

Playing the Game

So the Dr. said that I needed to go on and stop the passy use at Kale's 15 month check-up. I was at some advantage, because Kale only used his passy at bedtime. This was still going to be hard. The Dr. told me to try cutting holes in the passy and he would eventually not want it because it wouldn't work as he wanted it. Well, that didn't work at all. My genius son figured out how to plug the air hole on the front of the passy with his hand and get the suction he wanted out of it. So we slept with holey passies for a while, and at 18 months I decided it was finally time to really do this. So I knew the only other way was to go cold turkey! So I waited until after vacation times because I could not imagine no passies in a place unfamiliar with him. So when we got back home for the summer he suddenly began NOT wanting to go to sleep. He faught naps and bedtime (still with passy), and I couldn't figure it out. He used to LOVE night-night time! So I took advantage of this big time. I  knew I was going to have to let him cry himself to sleep because there was no getting around not going to sleep. So I snatched passy!!!! Brilliant if I do say so myself. If you are going to cry because you don't want to go to sleep then go on and cry because you don't have passy too! When it began he cried for a good 10 minutes. It has slowly gotten better and now may fuss a little for just a few minutes. We are now going on a full week of no passy and getting better at going right to sleep when put in his crib. YAY!!!! Playing Smart or Playing Dirty....call it what you want, but the job is done at 18 months!!!! Soon he will never know there was such a thing as passy!

Quick Hello!

Well hello blogging world...long time no see! Things with school are kinda starting to wind down. Tomorrow is awards day so of course I am up late working on my DVD. It's taking forever. Shouldn't I know by now not to wait to the last minute!! Oh well!
Ch-ch-ch-changes! Here are a few updated pictures of Kale. He is getting so big and so fast. They say cherrish every moment and I have but it still goes by soooo fast.
I'll be back soon and keep you updated hopefully through out the summer. Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day!

Bumper Sticker

So I have to vent a little tonight! I realized today that I need a bumper sticker that says "If you don't like what I do then say a prayer for me" or maybe one that says "Do I bother you? Let me know and I will say a prayer for YOU!"
For real!! So I get called to the bosses' office today to get told that a parent, "that would like to remain anonymous", called to complain about me and my driving. See if I am running late to school and the carline is backed up I have a little short cut I take to get me closer to the front of the line. So this 'anonymous' parent called to tell my boss that and his son saw me and asked why can't we do that daddy? He asked her how he was supposed to teach his son the right thing to do when I was doing the wrong thing? First off....wrong, it was not! Tell your son this...'well honey, she is a teacher and she needs get to work'. I mean really, I already give children the education they need to succeed, do I need to help you raise them too???
I teach my students that what he did is called tatteling! I didn't do anything to you personally so get over it! So I cut you in line! Guess what, we are going to the same place!
*Okay I'm gonna stop now!

Oh the Joy of a Little Boy!

This is going to be short and sweet, but I had to blog about it. My son LOVES a bath. As soon as he hears the water he comes running. So we are both in the bathroom and I am running his water gaging the temperature and what not. Mean while my son has opened the cabinets (where we store the extra toliet paper) and decided to start stuffing the FULL rolls into the, open, toilet. Luckly he was stacking them on top of one another so we only lost one. I couldn't help but laugh and still had to pop the hand. He keeps my life interesting....I LOVE IT!

Melt my ♥

So being a teacher I always knew that reading to your child is important. One of my fears is that Kale will hate reading as much as I did as a child. So I have been reading to him since he was about 6 months old. Some nights were a struggle but I stuck with it. We read at least 3 books before bed on a good night. Sometimes it's one and sometimes (depending on where we are and what we are doing) it's no book and just a song. Either way today the best thing happened. Kale has been really fussy today for some reason. He is now on his second nap of the day, awoke from his first at 11:00 and back down by 1:15. Before we went down for a nap I was rocking him in his room to calm him down and he backed down from my lap to the floor. He walked over to the book basket I have next to the rocker, picked up a book, handed it to me (smiling) and then reached for me to pick him up. He was telling me he wanted me to read to him. How sweet and rewarding is that! That just made my day! I hope he continues to love book and I will continue to read to him nightly. I think I am going to have to get some books in a bag for travel, when we aren't home when he goes to bed! He loves the peek-a-boo, and touch and feel books. He loves turning the pages and he points to eyes, nose, and ears when a person is on the page. So reading with your child does pay off. Stick to it and make it fun. We even have books in the bath! I hope you enjoy reading to your child and expanding their knowledge and vocabulary! Happy Reading! Check out the bottom of my blog for some of the books I love!

Cute and sticky!

So I have found a cute new website that you MUST check out....especially if you have kids and like the old style/modern look! It is called Wall Candy Arts. I am seriously thinking about ordering something for Kale's next room decor. I am loving the owls and I love the tree if it didn't have the pink in it. I may wait for something new to come out. Oh and I love the little old style/modern desk. Precious! Have fun surfin through the site. I sure did!

So Excited!

So I have the BEST husband in the world! For my Birthday and Valentines Day my wonderful husband has gotten me something I have been wanting for a LONG time...Here it is

That's right he got me a Nikon D3000! I am super excited about getting it. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. My pictures are going to be sooooooo great from now on! Click - Click!!!

Winter Wonderland!

Well they said it would come and it did! It actually snowed in North Augusta and Aiken! Usually when it snows it is just ice but this time it was about 5 inches of the white fluffy stuff! We had a ball in it too! This was Kales first time in the snow and he wasn't to sure what to think.

Once he got used to it he enjoyed it! Last year ti snowed/iced a couple of days before he was born. Hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as we did! It was in 49 states so we all got it!

To ALL Parents

A teacher friend of mine recently posted this to her blog and thought I would share it!

Dear Parents,

I don't believe many of you are aware of this, but you have the power to intimadate many teachers, the power to take everything one holds dear and make us believe we are incompetent and stupid. Please take this into consideration when speaking to us or another adult.

We are aware that you are your child's advocate- we are too. We are aware that you love your child- we do too. We are aware you want what is best for your child- we want too.

Please express your concerns, comments, and questions in a non-threatening manner. You don't want to be threaten, we don't either. Please don't yell at us, we don't yell at you. Please don't believe everything your child tells you about us, we won't believe everything they tell us about you.

We are partners in their education. Just like we rely on you to send them to school with their needed supplies, food, and a good night's rest. Please rely on us to teach them- this includes social and emotional behaviors. Kids may not come with a parent handbook, but teachers have read TONS of student needs based textbooks!

Your baby is no longer a baby. They are a child. A school age child that has got to start doing things for themself. A child that must learn how to make good decisions and realize there are consequences for poor ones. A child that must function in a room with other children who have the right to learn.

We, the teachers, spend hours beyond requirements; money WAY beyond our pay; and love beyond the constraints of our hearts to teach your child. Please question not what we do, but how you can support us in our cause. Please do not fight with us, but for us so that we may better improve your child's education. And please remember, at one time, you were a student that had to be taught. The lessons may have been tough but they taught you- they made you who you are today. Are you not successful? Do you not think your life is good? For your child to be at your level in the future or even surpass it- you need to let us do our job.

Touching Story

No Pain No Gain was not something I associated with following God...until now! This video speaks volumes about No Pain No Gain! The Lord gives us pain for a reason and most of us have never understood and ask the question, WHY? After attending service at my church (TrueNorth) last Sunday I now understand a little more. This video of a couple who are members (the husband is on staff there) touched my heart. Their story is the meaning of 'No Pain No Gain' and very inspirationl to me.  It help put a lot of things in my life into perspective. We will never truely understand why God puts things and experiences in our life and we aren't ment to know. We are ment to live and learn through experiences and know that God knows the plans he has for us. I pray that from now on I can gain from pain. I hope this story speak to you as it did me.

                                                                        Trash

Blinds

Outlets and Cords

And Magazines

When they have THIS!!

If you know the answer or find out the answer to this question please enlighten me! It baffles me to no end!
I am asking for NO toys for his Birthday by the way! Clothes, food, diapers, or money! LOL

Lookin' Good!

Just thought I would share some pictures of Kale in one of his new outfits I blogged about a couple of days ago. Love it! Thanks Mimi!

Perfect!

Touch Down!

Rockin Out! Haha

Old and New

My creative juices got flowing this weekend when I was surprised with an early birthday present from my Dad and Mom. They brought me this

A new mirror/jewlery box. It is awesome! I was so excited to get it. So this is now my vanity mirror. While trying to figure out where this should go in the room, because it is massive and the spot I chose is the spot for good, I had a furniture makeover. This would have added a third mirror in my room. I also have one on my dresser and a freestanding full length mirror. So I decided to take the mirror part off the free standing mirror and hang it on the closet door. Then got a dowel rod and converted the stand to a blanket/throw rack in the living room...as seen below. How clever huh!

Hope you enjoyed my awesome NEW and reconstructed OLD furniture! I sure do!

I found a cute new store in North Augusta called Lula Blooms. It has lots of precious clothes for girls and boys. My mother-in-law and I ventured into the store and found several precious items, we ended up purchasing. If you are ever in the NA area, check it out. It's on West Avenut.
