We spent a couple days exploring Memphis
and everyone we talked to said
"you have to see the Peabody Ducks!"
so we did
These high-rolling ducks arrive in the elevator
every morning and waddle their way to
a day at the fountain...
it's kind of a big deal
Isaac got to be mini-duck master for the day
and helped serve the ducks their lunch
on a silver cloche
he was rewarded with this yummy ducky
I'm now kind of obsessed with Bass Pro Shops
we went to one in Nashville, which was amazing,
so when I realized there was (a huge!) one
in Memphis, it made the short list
this huge alligator gar is taller than Isaac
it's just chillin' in their indoor "swamp aquarium"
they also had live alligators, a huge aquarium with a variety of local fish
and panoramas of taxidermy
we spent over an hour exploring the store
with an emphasis on crossbows
and camo gear
Santa's Wonderland was a hit
while we didn't see the big guy
we did get to try out a bunch of toys
the elves have been hard at work putting together
We ate gobs of BBQ!
Tirzah was like
"Where has this been all my life?!"
(although both Aaron and I would go for
Nashville BBQ over Memphis BBQ any day)
We skipped the National Civil Rights museum this time
(they recommend ages 12 and up for the intensity of the exhibits)
but did drive by
we hadn't realized it was built out of the Lorraine Hotel,
where Dr Martin Luther King Jr was shot
Another day, another garden
(Visiting gardens reminds me of England!)
This one had a whimsical, interactive kid area
and some lovely flower beds...
They had a whole "neighborhood" of play houses
this was my favorite
on our last evening we drove to Arkansas
because we could
"look kids, it's the Mississippi River!"
Aaron and Isaac got to tour
the Gibson Factory
and another afternoon Aaron toured Sun Studio
so much music, so little time!
the security guard at Gibson highly recommended a BBQ joint
that you enter from an alley
we found it!
we've got the head lean down!
I love the colorful murals splashed all over downtown
Our time in Memphis was a great way to end our trip,
I have a feeling we'll be back when the kiddos are older!
