1 Year!

about a month ago a memory hopped into my head:

*ding-dong*
high school me answers the door
high school Aaron stands there
with a Christmas present in his hand
he gives me said present and I do the awkward side-hug thing
(and of course I hadn't thought to get him anything)
I open said present and it's a cd
by a band called:
The Benjamin Gate

little did we know we would have a sweet, crazy Benjamin of our own one day!

and now that little guy with the biggest smile
and the quickest laugh
and the proudest grin as he toddles around
is 1 year old!

we love you so very much!

The End of the Trip

you know you're getting to the end of your trip
when you can't figure out what to do
so you go to the barber

but now Benji can say his first real haircut
was in Scotland

the barber had a sign saying "no kids under 5"
but the boys were so well behaved while Aaron got his trim
that he pulled out his mickey mouse jungle cape
and sat the boys down for trims of their own

then the newly shorn Isaac and I enjoyed delectable
chocolate treats at the Oban Chocolate Company
(Isaac had a toddler-ccino...steamed milk with cocoa sprinkled on top
he thought he was so grown-up!)

walking around town

looking for dragons and gruffalos with his spyglass

a castle

a boat so old (predates Vikings?) that the docent said
this will be put in a museum soon

one final distillery tour

on the way home we stopped at David Livingstone's birthplace and childhood home
he was one inspirational man

we made it home safely

our dryer died soon after our return though
fortunately I have an amazing husband who replaced it
while I was at brunch with friends
(he says it's payback for all the whisky tours I let him go on)

so Scotland was very worthwhile :-)

Oban

our self-catered cabin - it was so nice to have
a kitchen and a bedroom for the boys!

enjoying the Sealife Sanctuary
(funny enough, these were Canadian otters,
not their native, European cousins)

On the way to Oban

another ferry
this was the choppiest ride we had
poor Benji would want to crawl around
but then he would stop, sit, start swaying his head, and cry
I think he was getting sea sick!

he figured out how to blow bubbles through his straw!

we stopped for lunch at a café overlooking the sea
and walked to a beautiful garden for a stroll
Isaac was lagging behind talking to himself
turns out he was saying
"mines life is so hard"
yeah, sorry about that hard life you have mister!

what a lookout point!

these are the cutest!
I wanted one but Aaron said no
so I got a highland cow calendar instead
close enough!
