the second week of july is a big deal where we live because it's
The Great Yorkshire Show - England's Premier Agricultural Event
we didn't go the first summer we were here
and
last summer it was so ridiculously wet it was cancelled
so this year we decided to see what all the hullaballoo was about
(and boy did we gawk at the ticket price - over $30/adult!
but thankfully tickets were waaay cheaper if you went after 3pm)
the day was sunny, we were slathered in sunscreen ready to see the sights
and, let me tell you, three hours at this busy, crowded, fun show was plenty!
we were too cheap to spring for a program
so thankfully they had maps posted throughout the event
watching chariot racing
(well, that's what we called it)
it was an open air buggy pulled by two horses racing through a course
and the machinery -
this was a little boy's dream
diggers and dumptrucks and road rollers galore!
watch out Daddy!
all three boys walked with their eyes open wide
I'm pretty sure they don't sell these (cattle stalls) at the Del Mar Fair!
we saw all types of dairy and beef cattle
Benji was curious and liked watching this cow until it started smelling him
then he kind of freaked
what better place for a picnic dinner than the goat hall?
followed by a goat wash, of course
my new favorite tip - visit the food hall right before closing on the last day
mad deals I tell you!
we made out with pork pies for 3 nights of dinner,
enough smoked salmon to keep me content for months,
venison sausage for a steal,
and some strawberries and cream and local ice cream for treats
delicious!
horses, tractors, blue skies
heading home we saw a lot of this
so after this great outing we walk our sleepy boys back to the car
and Isaac asks "where's the movie?"
and we realize that this whole time he's been patiently waiting to see the "show"
sorry love, that was the show
until next year!
