First Day of School 2011

My Senior Hailey! (16)
Spencer the Sophmore (15)
Jake-the cool 7th Grader (12)
Sweet Sammy the 5th Grader (10)
Is it just me or is time suddenly moving at hyper speed? August 24th we started another school year after an pretty amazing summer of vacations, beach days, pool days, and hanging out. I think this is the first year I wasn't DYING for the kids to go back to school. The kids are growing up so very fast and are so much fun to spend time with. The hardest part of summer for me is trying to squeeze work in between all the play time! We didn't see much of Hailey as she was busy working at Jamba Juice, dating, and completing the summer "list" she made with her friends of all the things they HAD to do this summer. She is one busy girl who never stops. Of course, there are days when I miss the chubby little toddler arms around my neck, but I have to admit-it's pretty nice to be able to sit on the beach and read a book while everyone entertains themselves! We are now looking forward to all the fun fall brings and I'm busy trying to figure out how to get everyone where they need to be!

Matt Turned Forty!

On July 21st, my sexy man turned the BIG 40! He said he didn't want a party, but I knew better and planned a surprise! Matt and Spencer share a birthday, so most of "the day" was spent ignoring Matt and celebrating with Spencer.
Matt thought we were going to McCormick and Schmick's (his favorite restaurant) with just the Hazens. When we walked up the stairs, there was a room set up just for him and all his friends there! They were awesome and started singing Happy Birthday...Matt was SO RED-and not just from his sunburn.
I love this man!
Tammi brought some lovely eyewear for Matt sport on his big day
The highlight of the night was Marcus "roasting" Matt!
40 funny things we love about Matt 1. Takes better care of his nails than my wife, Tammi, does 2. His water hose is his therapist 3. Thinks every item he buys has an expiration date 4. DIY Network was his original idea--he's a silent partner though 5. Working on his 598th business idea, just waiting for right one to act upon. 6. Got his first running injury just before turning 40...still under debate whether u can herniate your shin muscle. 7. Please be advised Matt's father is not allowed in his home--to avoid any further homeowners claims. 8. He's tighter with the ladies at Seasons Salon than all the women in the ward. 9. Not aware that meals can actually be cooked at home. 10. His sole motivation for losing weight is to be thinner than his brother. 11. Still believes he's a better athlete than his brother, despite his friends telling him otherwise. 12. Makes his business appointments based on where he wants to eat that day. 13. Thinks a full work day is 9-noon 14. First crush was his speech therapist 15. Was worried that marrying Allison would be incest since he was already Rick Gardner's son 16. Still doesn't believe his Saab is a woman's car 17. Recently outgrew his allergy to sweating 18. He would still have the earring from when he was 16, but he had it on wrong ear. 19. Was the most requested pizza delivery boy in Laguna (wink wink) 20. He's the driving force behind electronic industry improving models every 3 months. 21. He has so many friends because, hey, we all know his hand-me -downs aren't even used. 22. He was the one who told Jessica Simpson that buffalo wings actually come from buffalos 23. He loved pickles until he realized they were cucumbers in disguise 24. Real name is Juan--he still wishes he could've been a landscaper. 25. Only started drinking water after they discovered it in the Springs from the Fijian mountains 26. Actually thought Allison would love having a live Rooster for Christmas, just to keep in her backyard. 27. Still a wanted man in CA for an indecent exposure incident. But the authorities think they're looking for a woman 28. Only thing he won't hand down is his $200 bling bling jeans 29. Never had a lap dance, but sure does love his little lap dog! 30. Matt was born into the wrong family, he was meant to be a trust-fund baby 31. His loud, outrageous socks are an attempt to distract people from his ... 32. Still has nightmares about a poor defenseless rabbit, crying for it's life in his yard after shooting it with a bb gun 33. He makes a really hot Ethel 34. Threw up in the stake center cause he couldn't handle the thought of Allison hooking up with someone else on New Years Eve. 35. Allison told him to feel free to sow his wild oats at BYU, and Jamie Pyatt can attest that he sure had a plentiful harvest. 36. He debated whether to go on a mission or become a male model. 37. Matt has memorized what every aisles contents are at Home Depot 38. Matt has worked more hours on the ski slopes than his office. 39. Bring your own gas can cuz you might run out in his car. 40. Matt has purchased more pairs of ear phones than he Dennis rodman has tatoos 41. Matt had to cancel his DVR after the Jennifer Garner incident 42.Matt has always been very generous example being he invited all his closest friends to enjoy lobster for his birthday
The lobster...and the lobster boy. I told him to wear sunscreen!!!
The party was in Downtown San Diego the night of ComicCon. Parking was a major hassle, but it sure was entertaining to walk around after.
Maybe a little too entertaining?

Father's Day

For Father's Day this year, we headed to the beach in Dana Point to join my family for a beach picnic. It was a gorgeous, sunny day and we relaxed, ate yummy food, and enjoyed the company!
The Best Daddy I could want for my kids
Matt HATES kissing pictures and rebels whenever possible!
My beautiful mom, me, and Amanda
Because it was Sunday, we didn't allow the kids to go in the water...this is the compromise they came up with. Ha!

Boating

This summer, we were fortunate to borrow a friend's boat for a family reunion/boat trip to Lake Mead. We picked the boat up a little couple of weeks early and took it our for a "test drive" in Oceanside. We invited Jake, Hillary, and their cute kiddos to join Matt, me and our boys for a fun day of boating. I promise, we love our girls but they were both busy that day (dance recitals and work!)
First time on a boat!
El Capitan
Spencer was the first to try dropping on the "pillow". I guess it was fun because he wanted to do it at least a dozen more times!
He got Jake to join him...
Giving some brotherly encouragement
The Rothey fam
How cute is my sister?
We even found Sponge Bob's long lost cousin when we docked for a pit stop
I don't make it into many pictures, but this time my legs did (mine are up front). I'm pretty proud of those almost 40 gams of mine-just don't ask to see my stomach!
The boy convince Uncle Jake to try jumping...
It was a great day of family, sun, the amazing ocean we are blessed to live next to, and lots of laughs!
