The Gospels don’t just tell the story like a witness in a courtroom, they’re inviting us to participate. We don’t just believe in Jesus like we believe in George Washington. The Gospels are inviting us to live into the story of this Jesus right now today. We follow Jesus into the water. We follow him into the desert. We follow him to weddings and funerals, to the synagogue and the tax collector’s house. And we follow him to Jerusalem. To a table. And a meal.
