Sept 2010

In Sept 2010, we started a preschool time with the kids. Instead of setting up "class" at home, I set it up in a room at our church. The room is huge and we had lots of space to work with. My friend who is a montessori preschool teacher, got pregnant and retired from her job. She helped me set everything up, purchased montesseori materials and did a speed-training with me in the montessori method of teaching/guiding. Since we've moved (30 min away from church), we took all of this set up to our new home - which has 4 bedrooms thankfully. We did this same set up in the fourth and biggest room. We try to have preschool 3 times a week, but it's very flexible. I imagine we'll be outside most of the summer exploring, digging, playing, etc... with very mild indoor learning time. People ask a lot if we're going to "homeschool" all our kids. My answer is, "year by year, kid by kid"... we'll evalutate how it's going each year, look at where we are as a family, and assess how each kid is responding... we'll make our decisions accordingly... so we don't know if we're a "homeschooling family", but we're just trying out the preschool stuff since we refuse to pay thousands of dollars to send our kids away from mommy, especially when mommy is at home to care for them. It's been fun so far. :)
