Julie Montagu is a celebrated public speaker, television personality, author, and royal commentator known for her engaging presence and ability to connect with diverse audiences around the world.

As a historian and pubic speaker, Julie’s rare blend of expertise, charisma, and authenticity inspires audiences on topics ranging from resilience and wellness to British aristocratic life and royal traditions.

Born and raised in Illinois, USA, Julie’s journey took a remarkable turn when she moved to London and married Luke Montagu, then Viscount Hinchingbrooke, heir to the Earldom of Sandwich and the Mapperton Estate in Dorset.

Julie now divides her time between London and Mapperton, where she balances family life, video production, public roles, and managing the estate alongside her husband.

Legacy

Julie’s mission is to empower, uplift, and educate. Whether speaking from a stage, on screen, or in print, she continues to inspire audiences to embrace change, live well, and connect with the world in meaningful ways.

She is a Gilded Age historian, often appearing in various media outlets to discuss ‘Dollar Princesses’—the women who crossed the Atlantic and married into the British aristocracy. Through archival discoveries, letters, diaries, and historical storytelling, she examines the ambitions, scandals, and cultural impact of the women who reshaped high society on both sides of the ocean.

Along with her husband, Luke, Earl of Sandwich, Julie is an active custodian of the historic Mapperton Estate, which is known as one of the finest estates in England. They give insights into their lives running Mapperton and the estate’s history on their YouTube Channels, Mapperton Live and Rewilding Mapperton.

In 2026, Julie founded The Countess of Sandwich Society for the Preservation of Britain’s Living History. The Society currently houses an open digital archive of high-quality films about the historic houses featured in her American Countess series.
