His New Favorite Spot

Maximus changes his favorite spot to nap every now and then and this is his new favorite. It's in the office in the recliner in there. The problem? It's microfiber and he is shedding!! I have to vacuum this darn thing ALL the time!

A Pleasant Surprise

I had just run a HUGE event called Healthy Kid's Day at our YMCA. The stress for this event was unreal. But it went off without a single problem and the community said it was the best event they had ever had at the Y. So I guess it was worth it. But I came in on Monday and found these on my desk from one of the vendors thanking me for such a successful event. It seriously made my day!! Even if it was a little creepy coming from the guy that it did.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

This is our Healthy Lifestyles Director from the YMCA. We helped support this event that raised awareness of abuse towards women. Men from all over Douglas County walked a mile in red or pink high heels. It was fun to watch!

And the Beard is Back!

It must be a man thing. Or a phase or something. But if it stays too long, I start threatening not to shave my legs!

Chris' Birthday and a Weekend Away

I finally got some comp time and Chris and I decided to take some time off and get away. We left Maximus with our pals the Arnells and drove off to the coast. We stayed at this amazing hotel and spa called the Overleaf Lodge in Yachats, Oregon. It was so peaceful and just what we needed. Our room had a fireplace and a great view of the waves crashing against the shore.

I had to get a picture from the website to do it all justice.

The spa was right down the hall from our room so we spent a lot of time there. They had a warm water bath that looked right out to sunset and the coast. We spent a lot of time here. They also had hot tubs and I took a relaxing bath soak. We also got a couples massage and ate an amazing meal right on the water. It was the perfect weekend!

This was the view from our room. I kept the balcony door open most of the time so we could hear the ocean. It was exactly what we needed.

The Ides of March? Almost...

So...this happened March 16th. Almost the dreaded day. I was having a rough week at work and very busy. I walked into our staff meeting and it turned out that our Active Older Adults trip was short one person and needed another chaperone. Well...I was nominated and left right away. It was SUCH a fun trip! We took a trip up to Salem and road an old steamboat ship on the river. While on board, we were served lunch and had a theater show. Afterwards, we toured an amazing old mansion and we went to a park and rode this carousel. I was having so much fun thinking maybe work wasn't so bad. UNTIL....

Me having so much fun! More fun than I had had in a long time.

I return to the YMCA and find this in the parking lot...We guessed that it happened about 1 in the afternoon. My poor car was broken in to. There was glass everywhere!

What did they steal? My cute gym bag that had over $1500 worth of workout music in it. Yep...all my Turbokick rounds, Piyo rounds, all my choreography notes, and other work out CD's as well as some equipment for teaching. The sad thing was that they probably thought this was a purse and probably just threw it all away. What they didn't know was that this SERIOUSLY hurt me! It would have been better if they took my purse!! It took me months to recover all the music and supplies to teach my classes. I had some of it backed up but not all of it.

So here I was the next day after spending forever trying to get all the glass out of my car. I felt like a total hick! And of course it was raining! We live in Oregon. Thankfully, I was able to get it fixed that afternoon so I wasn't a redneck for more than a few hours. When you move from a big city to a small town you think you are safe...apparently not. Needless to say...that same day Chris and I went out and bought a shotgun. Desperate times and a bad economy make people do crazy things and we wanted to be prepared.
The good thing about rain is that they bring rainbows. This rainbow framed our house! So cool! Since we have been here this has happened 3 times. The sky is so pretty here when it rains and then the sun comes out. We even get double rainbows ocassionally.

Little Guiseppe Gets Married!

With exception to Dan, who couldn't make it, the Umina kids were back together again! And of course causing all kids of trouble. It was so great to see everyone and have such a fun time dancing and celebrating.

Here is the group shot. Missing from the photo is Grandpa and Thelma. Chris and I really tore the floor up dancing with our nieces and nephew. There are just too many pictures to post here. It was such a great trip! Congrats to Joe and Jessica

Our Newest Hobby-Cycling

Chris and I have officially joined the world of cycling! We both bought road bikes and are now into all that cycling entails. It is a very expensive hobby! This picture was taken on our first ride together. There are some gorgeous country roads here in Roseburg and it was a beautiful day! This spot is where the North Umpqua and South Umpqua rivers meet. The Umpqua river is a big part of Roseburg. You can see in the picture that the South Umpqua (on the left) is more full of silt and sediment and the North Umpqua (on the right) is a gorgeous clear turquoise. They collide at this point. The North Umpqua is also a VERY fun river to float down.

And I'm back...

Hello folks!! So you say...where did Patience's blogging go? I was so on top of things until my job literally consumed my life and almost killed me. Well...maybe not killed me but definitely took me on a downward spiral. So...I quit my job and got a new one and here I am. It's been almost 7 months since my last post. Yikes!! I will be doing lots of updates in the next little bit so stay tuned. I will start with March of last year but will probably just do short posts to get myself caught up. I will also add some more updated songs to my playlist. Thanks for continually checking back in in hopes that I would post again. Your faith has been rewarded. Here they come!

Bronchitis and Laryngitis

Well...this is what you get when you run a preschool as well as being really stressed out from managing all the rest of the stuff I do. I got bronchitis and laryngitis really bad. I completely lost my voice and could hardly breath. So here is my treatment plan...A Zpack, steroids for my lungs, an inhaler, and lots of other goodies. I took my first sick day!

I was actually missed at work too! one of my employees brought me these. It really made my day. I hate being sick. Funny thing is...my new doctor here as of yesterday is Dr. Dandy. LOL. Isn't that a funny name? Except all was not fine and dandy when I had to go see him. The pharmacist even laughed when I said his name. I love it!

Valentine's Day

I woke up on Valentine's Day and Chris had a surprise waiting for me. I have wanted a beach cruiser for a long time and I finally got one! Love it!!

And the next day, the balloon monkey died.

It looked like we hung the monkey and it reminded us of the "Monkey hangers" story that our cabby in London told us. Nate and Dayna...did we ever tell you that story? LOL

Where in the world have I been the last few months?

Well here it is! This is where I live. It's my office. I haven't even had time to decorate it. Just clean it. When I first came in this room was jam packed with JUNK. You could hardly have standing room. Now it's at least clean. I even painted it that green color that you see. Notice the picture is taken at night...I spend a lot of long days and in to the night here.

I plan a lot of special events at the YMCA. I'm in charge of planning all the Family Nights, Late Night Teen Nights, Special Events, Healthy Kids Events, Holiday Events, etc. This is when we had our nearby Wild Life Safari come and present animals to our families at Family Night.

I didn't get a chance to take a ton of pictures but the animals were a huge hit!

This is our Zumba party. Zumba is a HUGE hit here in Roseburg. I don't teach it. Maybe someday I will learn how but basically it's like Latin aerobic dance. SO FUN!! This is my boss Marisa (left) and fellow directors and friends Audrey and Christine.

We had 138 people attend. It was a very busy night!

On the left is my pal Meg. She's a hoot! And an awesome Zumba instructor!

The gym was full!

This is the YMCA Director staff doing a skit at our Christmas party. We did a Grinch and Whoville parody. Check out the hair. It's hard to see but mine is up like a conehead with a Christmas bulb on top. It was a lot of fun.

This is our Strong Kids Campaign kickoff dinner and annual meeting. I am a team captain for our campaign this year. Anyone want to donate to our Strong Kid's campaign that helps sponsor families in need for programs, childcare, and membership? LOL

My Family Services Associate and pal Emily (left), friend Meg (middle) and boss, friend, and Executive Director Marisa (right). There have been a lot of events on top of these that I just haven't had time to take pictures of. The YMCA keeps me SO BUSY!!

And when I am not working, I'm doing my calling for church working with the Young Men and Young Women. This is a skating trip that we went on a few weekends ago. Here are two of the many "choice" young men I work with. LOL

And here are some more. I love these girls! They are a lot of fun. We do all kinds of fun activities and hang out Wed. nights and a lot of weekends.

Last Minute Christmas Surprise

We literally decided just hours before we left that we would head to Idaho and surprise my brother and his wife and kids in Idaho. It's about a 9 hour drive and we were originally going to stay home for Christmas at our house. Eric was really sick and we decided that we wanted to be near family for Christmas so we packed up the car and headed out at 4am. We drove through Portland and the drive was gorgeous! Until we hit eastern Oregon and then it was pretty boring.

We stopped at a hotel in Portland on our way back to break up the drive. I only had a few days off so it was a very quick trip. We were so tired! We even brought Maximus. I think this picture says it all. But we did have a lot of fun in Portland.

This is the gang hanging out on Christmas Eve. My other brother Joe and his fiancee Jessica were there too. Nothing beat Tiff's face when she saw us come in the door. They were completely surprised. It was so fun! We had a great time and thanks to Tiff's parents who let us crash their holiday! Don't I have the cutest nieces and nephew?

Christmas at the Adams

Crazy story about our Christmas trees. We got such an amazing deal on our tree with delivery that we decided to buy two. The second tree was bound up still but it was the right height so we go it. Well tree #1 was great. Tree #2 when we started to unbind it, we discovered a bird's nest nestled in the branches. I felt SO BAD! Here it is. The tree looked great besides the fact that it was a bird's home before we got it.

We finally have our very first real tree and it's BIG! Don't know how we did it but it fit perfectly without having to cut it and we didn't even measure.

Mistle toe hung where you can't see.

The dining room.

The stairway

The kitchen buffet area.

The door to the garage. Thanks everyone for the great Christmas cards.

Our front door

I tried to get a good picture of the house lit up. I did the classic New England look with the wreaths and a candle in every window. We got the second tree upstairs WHAT A MESS WITH PINE NEEDLES!! Unfortunately you can't really see it all in this picture.

This picture at least shows the waterfall down our hill lit up. Night pictures are so hard!

Debbie Retires and Patience Becomes Another Person...or just does the job of another

This is the retirement party of the Child Care Director whom I shared my office with. She retired3 months after I started my job at the YMCA. Good news...I now have my own offiice...bad news...I now get to do her whole job as well as mine. Darn budget. I'm officially doing the work of 4 people now. Debbie is the larger lady with grey hair in the middle on the left. Most of the people in the picture are my team that I work with.

Sunsets From Our House

We live up on a hill overlooking our town and our house faces West so we get these amazing views of sunsets. Oregon has its clouds and its rain but MAN do we get some amazing sunsets because of it. I love them!

Unfortunately we aren't always home before sunset so we don't always get to take pictures of it. We get great views of rainbows too. We just love it here!
