October International Updates
Hello Delegates!
A fundamental part of being a representative at the United Nations (and, thus, at a MUN Conference) is an awareness of global events. Given that the theme of OG’s 2025 Home Conference is ‘The Spirit of Inquiry’, we think it is important to stay inquisitive about international news. From October, we will discuss three articles, with related questions to allow you to inquire about what is going on worldwide.
Fantasy Crisis Focus
Ahead of the conference, we thought it would be useful to dive a bit deeper into our two special crisis committees. This second post takes us into the world of Narnia, as we explore the topic for this year’s fantasy crisis committee. In fact, you don’t have to go far to find Narnia in the city of Oxford, as C. S. Lewis wrote the books while he was teaching at Magdalen College in the 1950s, and was supposedly inspired by a lamppost, lion door carving, and gilded fauns in St. Mary’s Passage next to the Radcliffe Camera.
Historical Crisis Focus
Ahead of the conference, we thought it would be useful to dive a bit deeper into our two special crisis committees. First up, it’s our historical crisis committee. In recent years, our historical crises have included Empress Wu’s succession crisis in eighth century China, the Korean War, and the Chernobyl disaster. In 2025, we are delving into one of the turning points in international history - the fall of the Soviet Union.

Oxford's Origins
Walking the streets of Oxford, surrounded by medieval buildings and a deep sense of its lengthy past, one cannot ignore this city’s beautiful history. To help you feel more connected to this city we call home for much of the year, we thought that we would point you to some key historical dates in Oxford’s development as a city, from the tenth to nineteenth centuries.
Oxford Traditions
Oxford is a city steeped in history, where present-day students and locals get to enjoy centuries-old traditions. Beyond all the academics, Oxford is full of rituals, ceremonies, and unique customs, so we thought we’d outline some of these below for you to get to know the city hosting you a bit better.
