Still Alive

Because it has been way too long and I don't have time to get caught up right now, here's a little treat to let you know we're alive and shakin' (our booties)!

All Things Tangled

It has been over a month (almost two in fact) since Gracie turned five, but I can't move on without a birthday post.

Because her birthday was on a Monday, we had a party with her friends on Saturday. Gracie wanted to have a party at home so her doll Emerson could come, and she wanted a Tangled party, so it was an all-Tangled event!

The highlights of her friend party were a pinata, which was the only thing she specifically requested. And all the girls made lanterns like the ones Rapunzel wants to see in the movie. With all her best friends, cake and presents, Gracie loved every minute of her party!

On her actual birthday, we just had a little family party with cupcakes. Gracie also took cupcakes to school that day. However, for the family party, she requested a cupcake without frosting for herself. Guess she is more like her daddy than her mommy when it comes to frosting!

So that is what it takes to make a 5-year-old happy. At least for a few days...

Model or Princess? BOTH!

Gracie turned 5 on March 7th, and we had her "5-year pictures" taken the following week. It is so fun to see how she changes from year to year, especially considering I was looking at her 4-year pics just before we got new ones and thinking how she hasn't changed much. How wrong I was! Here she is at four...

This year, the most noticeable difference during her photo shoot was how willing she was to pose for pictures, even when a pose was not requested. She was quite the little model. Here she is at five...

At the end of her photo shoot, Gracie had a special request for a picture with her sis. The bottom one is in the process of being made into a canvas to hang in Ellie's room.

Christmas is all around you...

The girls loved every minute they were able to spend with Grandma and Grandpa at their house for Christmas! And so did their mom and dad. Here are a few highlights of our holiday fun:

Awesome aprons from Grandma for frosting cookies

Snuggle time with Grandpa & Grandma

Frosting Cookies

Christmas Jammies

Cousin Love

Surprises from Santa

Pillow Pets from B&B

Blankets from Grandma & Grandpa

Finding the pickle (Ellie didn't care about the pickle gift; she just wanted to keep the talking pickle)

A new ride

The dress Gracie wanted so badly for Emerson

A breakfast break

(in the middle of unwrapping presents, Ellie wanted a bowl of the cereal Santa brought her)

And a little John Wayne

Now on to 2011....

More December...

So what else did December bring? Well, we decorated the tree...

The girls modeled last year's Christmas dresses. Ellie was sick on Christmas Sunday, so we couldn't get a pic of their dresses that day. And with church at 9 am this year, we have yet to be ready early enough to take pics of them on the Sundays they both wear them. One of these days...

And it snow. A lot. Which makes our little family smile.

Pizza & Movie Night

Somehow I missed posting about Gracie's Pizza & Movie Night. I guess that's the problem with having two cameras and not downloading the pics regularly.

Gracie talked about wanting her friends to come over for several months before she took things into her own hands and started telling her friends she was having a pizza and movie night. After a few of their moms asked me about it, I decided we might as well make it happen. So in November, Gracie had five of her favorite friends over. And of course our little Ellie Bean joined in on the fun. I'm pretty sure she thinks she is 4-years-old too.

The girls had a pizza picnic, and then we started the movie. About 20 minutes into it, there were no little girls left in the living room. They had all moved upstairs where they played dress up and took turns being patients in the hospital (the recliner in Ellie's room). Occasionally one of the girls would wander downstairs to grab something from the gobs of candy in the kitchen.

It was a great night that ended with NO tears (quite a feat with seven little girls together for three hours) and all smiles!

Santa Baby

I promise December is almost behind us. Hopefully before we move on to February. But I couldn't move on to the new year without posting some of the most important moments of the girls' Christmas.

Gracie decided she wanted to tell Santa what she wanted this year in person, not just in her letter. We always left it up to her, and this year she was determined to tell him she wanted stuff for her baby Emerson (the doll she got for Christmas last year that she adores and takes everywhere), a Zhu-Zhu pet and a snow cone machine. At the Macfarlane family Christmas party, she finally had the chance to sit on his lap and tell him her Christmas list.

Ellie, on the other hand, always said she didn't want to sit on his lap but just tell him (from a distance) what she wanted. After seeing her sister sit on Santa's lap, she changed her mind. She was very serious about the whole situation and hardly looked at Santa, but she made sure he knew she wanted candy, Barbies and Shrek (the 4th movie).

After the kids had their moments with Santa, Scott got to have one of his own as one of Santa's helpers. After Santa headed back to the north pole, the kids all opened their gift from Santa. Ellie got the mermaid Barbie she asks for every time we go to Target and Gracie got a Snoopy snow cone machine. They were both in heaven. And Gracie informed us THAT was the real Santa, not the one at the mall or the one at her school Christmas party.
