    Grizzlies Shape Public Discourse

Democracy doesn’t happen only at the ballot box. It lives within our campus community, reflected in conversations that rely on our willingness to engage with one another across differences.

The University of Montana’s Democracy Summit brings together students, faculty, community leaders and citizens to explore how healthy relationships and civic dialogue strengthen democracy. The annual gathering invites participants to examine one of the most urgent questions of our time: how we build trust, connection and cooperation in an increasingly divided world.

The 2026 summit focuses on moving from isolation to social connection, a vital ingredient for a thriving democracy. Through workshops, conversations, and interactive experiences, participants will explore how relationships shape civic life, encourage participation and help communities solve shared challenges together.
