The HSBC TreeTop Walk (HSBC TTW) is the highlight of several long hiking routes in MacRitchie that brings you through different stages of mature secondary forest. The first of its kind in Singapore and in the region, this free-standing suspension bridge connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird's eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy. The total length of the walkway is about 250m and its height from the forest floor varies, with the highest point at 25m. Besides providing another avenue for nature recreation for Singaporeans, the HSBC TTW also play an important role in forest canopy research, an area many researchers were not able to get into because of lack of access. This bridge will help to facilitate surveys and plant identification work and further our understanding of how forest ecosystems work. The HSBC TTW was officially launched by the Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, on 5th November 2004. The event also marked the start of another collaboration between NParks and HSBC that will reap benefits for the community. As part of efforts to enhance the HSBC TreeTop Walk as an outdoor classroom to promote an interest and appreciation of the natural sciences, HSBC and NParks established the HSBC-GCF (Garden City Fund) TreeTop Walk Fund to support a host of programmes and activities for conservation, education and outreach. This includes programmes for school children, workshops for teachers, training of nature guides as well as the production of educational materials. The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 - 2 hour walk) from the MacRitchie Reservoir Park and 2.5 km (45 mins - 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive. Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace). Please note that the walkway only allows for one-direction traffic. The entrance to the bridge is from Ranger Station via Peirce track. operating hour ~ Tue to Fri - 9am to 5pm, Weekends and Public Holidays - 8.30am to 5pm. Boat Dock 1 is located across from the white tiger habitat. Boat Dock 2 is located next to our newly opened Rainforest Kidzworld. The ride will take approximately 20min. Tickets can be purchased at the dock. ->$6 sgd
it's the zoo~ so oh well , know your stuff .

Kusu island ~ ( tortoise island )
On Kusu Island ("Tortoise Island" in Chinese), you can find attraction which include a Malay shrine and a Chinese temple with an interesting legend woven around them. Legend has it that a giant sea turtle turned into an island to save 2 shipwrecked sailors - a Malay and a Chinese. As an act of thanks, the two men built a Chinese temple, Malay shrine and a huge turtle sculpture on the island.
Taoists make annual pilgrimages to the Tua Pekong Temple during the ninth lunar month, while Muslims visit Kramat Kusu. At the top of the rugged hillock on Kusu Island stands three kramats (or holy shrines of Malay saints). Many devotees will climb the 152 steps leading to the kramats to pray for wealth, good marriage, good health and harmony. The shrines are also popular with childless couples who would pray for children.
Stunning views of the mainland can be seen from Kusu's beaches and its hilltop. The warm waters of the lagoon are ideal for swimming.
Legends of KusuMany legends surround the island, most referring to a magical giant turtle turning itself into an island to save two shipwrecked sailors - a Malay and a Chinese. It is said the grateful sailors returned to the island to give thanks and others continued the tradition.
Before Kusu was reclaimed, some people say it looked like a turtle. Made up of two ridges on a reef, one ridge the head, and the other (where the hilltop is now) the back of the turtle.
Kusu, however, has since been reclaimed into an 8.5ha holiday resort. There are now three Malay shrines or "keramats" and a Chinese temple on Kusu Island. Nearby, the Tortoise Sanctuary houses hundreds of tortoises.
History of Kusu
Kusu Island was called Pulau Tembakul in the past. It used to be a burial site of immigrants who died in quarantine on St. John's and Lazarus Islands.
What to see and do?
Kusu Island is well developed today, mainly to support the steady stream of worshippers to the shrines on the island. On the ninth month of lunar calendar, about 130,000 people still throng the island's Da Ba Gong Temple (or Temple of the Merchant God). The island with its two swimming lagoons is also a popular destination for day-trippers to enjoy the sun and sand.
Marine life of Kusu Island
Kusu is ringed by reefs with a bewildering variety of hard corals and soft corals. Commonly encountered animals include clown anemonefishes, anemone shrimps, giant clams and a wide variety of other fishes and crabs seldom seen on other Southern Shores.

The farm is open daily (Monday-Sunday) from 9am to 4pm. Milking demonstrations is from 9am to 11am, and so visitors are encouraged to come in the morning. Please take note that visitors are only allowed to view the milking demonstrations (strictly no hands-on are allowed).

NAME: WONG DE LI DEDRICSPECIALISE IN: GAOSHENG/ SUONA/ GUANZI
Dedric graduated from The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Diploma in Music, majoring in the Suona. He is under the tutelage of Singapore Chinese Orchestra Suona Pricipal, Mr Jin Shi Yi.
In 2006, Dedric clinched the first prize in the National Arts Council Chinese Music Competition’ Suona Open Catergory, moreover with his outstanding performance during the competition, he was being selected to perform at The Prize Winner’s Concert and was also chosen by the competition adjudicators to demonstrate in the master class conducted by renowned Guanzi master, Mr Hu Zhi Hou. He also took part in Zhongxin International music competition 2007, Chinese Instrument category and came in as first runner-up.
Dedric got acquainted with Chinese music since secondary school, he started learning the sheng at the age of 13 under Mr Lee Kern Siang, and the suona when he was 15. He joined the Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra in 2001 and actively participated in the various performances of the Orchestra, including those at Changsa, China, and Sarawak, Malaysia. In May 2007, He stage a Suona Yangqin Solo Recital Concert , "琴说呐道" , with the Orchestra, and was well received by the audience. Over the years, he had staged two challenging Suona Concerto "霸王别姬", "欢庆胜利" with the orchestra.
Dedric is often invited as a guest Suona player with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. In 2006, Dedric went to Beijing, China, to further his Suona performing skills under the tutelage of Mr. Hu Zhi Hou, Mr Shi Hai Ping and Mr Zhou Dong Chao. He has also received guidance from Mr Ding Huai Cheng.
Accompanied by Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra, Dedric performed the Suona concerto in June and at Sarawak in December 2006. In the same year, he performed a Suona and Hulusi solo at the Tai Nan International Chishi Arts Festival held in Taiwan. In March 2007, Dedric performed a Suona concerto with The HsingHai Arts Association Chinese Orchestra, at The Esplanade Concert Hall.
With his keen interest in traditional Chinese music, he received twice The Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts and Cultural Bursary in year 2004 and 2006. Currently he is also the instructor of various schools in Singapore.

There's a change of plan due to Huixian's schedule ! We will now have the Outing on 10th June, Wednesday ! We will still be going to PasirRis park and PEEPOS! U will have to make food urself and bring food there! IF NOT! buy food ! :) U will have to either BUY or make it urself ! And when we reach PasirRis.. We will share and exchange our food with each other! :D
That will be our lunchh ! xD And after that.. We will play around at the playground and have some activities! :D GAMESSS! :D I love games ~ :DDDD

i know its a bit late now. but i still want to post this up...
Dear all mslco members, the "WAR" is coming and i believe most of u are doing great, Practising hard, polishing up the two Songs. Its really important that all of u work towards a common goal. There is something that i always like to say is, Don't do for the sake of doing it, Do it willingly. There is no point doing something for the sake the doing. Must well enjoy the process. treasure the time where u all play music together as a chinse orchestra. ok?
everyone is saying we want a gold. but is the actions that people want to see.
Result is not the main key. Its the effort u guys have put in. If u guys didn't get what u want *touch wood*, NEVERMIND!! AT LEAST u know that u have put in enough effort to practice and given ur best shot! Being in a CO isn't about YOU, YOURSELF, ME, MYSELF, HIM OR HER. its about everyone! a team!
i hope u guys can work together as one, NOT ONLY for the sake of SYF. but for the sake of this BIG FAMILY.
This might be the last SYF for some of you. i bet it would be very proud of yourself when the school announce: The school Chinese Orchestra has done the school proud by clinching a gold award for the SYF!!
OR going around telling ur friends that last time i got take part in SYF hor... for my school CO. we got GOLD leh...
thinking of two years back... we were so un-motivated, no sense of urgency. until the eleventh hour. everyone was like possesed. we worked so hard and even went to FCC to practice during night time. and yes we got a GOLD back.
im trying to tell u all that working very hard on the last minute isn't a bad thing also. hahaa.
me and some of the alumnis will come and support u guys. we will clap loud loud for u all! :D
MSLCO, less than a week will be ur big day. prove to everyone what u guys are made of!

Something to MSLCO Juniors who read my blogFor SYF…You all must work hard for SYF. Do it well and leave no regret. Although I hoped that all of you can at least get a Gold back but results was not the main focus. What’s important is that all of you knew that you all have tried your very best. Seeing Salty chairman working so hard, so xin ku, I really feel so heart ache. I knew all of you hatred being controlled but please try to listen to her. I don’t know when you all are going to be awake and really strive hard for SYF? The day before SYF-like our batch? Although we were like this but I hoped you all don’t go after our path because last minute work won’t help all the time.Lastly, I believed that we seniors, will give you all, all our supports. So….. MSLCO JIAYOU!!!!!!!!!!! 你们可以的!!!!!
