Toddler Entertainment

"Look Mama, I turtle!"

And he swallowed the Anakin Skywalker's Lego head yesterday. We found it in his diaper today. I told Kenny Anakin was just going to have to use a different head. I have no idea what is up with him. We have had little Leogs in this house for 8 months and NOW he decides to get in trouble with them!

Sorry, no cute post with great pictures today. My boys have occupied my every moment for the last few days. Daddy's schedule has been crazy this week and he has been at work or flying for about 12-15 hours each day, including at least one 1 overnight stay at the airport. Nathan has become my constant companion and doesn't finally go to sleep until 10-11 each night. He also shoved another Lego up his nose today. Kenny is missing his Daddy and has become very needy. Usually my kids are fairly independent and entertain themselves a lot. I'm not used to having them so dependent (and whiny) on me every moment. It makes my regular things like meals and laundry more burdensome. And I'm supposed to be staying off my feet-yeah...right.

It Finally Happened!

It has taken 6 years, which actually surprises me, to cross a new parenting milestone- foreign objects up the nose.

Nathan shoved a Lego so far up his nose that it was going up one nostril, through his sinuses, and into the other nostril- then back again. It took me an hour to get it out. He wouldn't hold still and nothing worked! The final time it started to come down the nostril I ended up bracing his head against the wall with my arm and pinching/milking his poor little nose. But I got the Lego out. Afterwards, he was so upset nothing was calming him. I finally asked if he wanted to call Daddy at work. That worked! All he wanted was to sob his sad little story into someone's ear.

Hopefully he learned his lesson and won't be doing that again.

Happy Birthday Kenny!

It is hard to believe he is 6 years old today! They grow so fast. We love our spirited, silly, loving little man. He keeps life exciting around here.

(More pictures to follow of his party, which he planned himself with a little guidance.)

We're Back!

I have a computer again! Boy, you don't realize how much you use something until it's gone. I don't have my picture program installed yet, so I have to wait for my posts with pictures.

For an update since my last post....Nathan got sick and threw up down the front of my shirt. Lovely. I'm feeling better, not great, but much better than before. The boys are as rowdy as ever. We are trying to potty train Nathan. It's going, well, not so good. His interest level in sitting on the potty changes from minute to minute. But he did actually pee in the potty for the first time on Sunday. Today, he ame running to me saying, "I go potty! I go potty! Come and see." So I went and looked in his little potty and there was a little lego Star Wars ship he had built. I looked up at him and said, "Nathan" to which he doubled over with giggles. Silly boy.

I had a doctor appointment last Thursday and I had to take both my boys. They were using the doppler and looked and looked but couldn't find the heartbeat. I tried to stay calm, but this is exactly what happened last January when I lost the baby at the same number of weeks that I am now. They pulled in the ultrasound machine and there was our little love bug- strong heartbeat and moving constantly as to make it hard to get any measurements. The baby measured two days ahead and my doctor said we will keep my due date the same, but plan on a January baby. The boys loved seeing the baby and Kenny was giddy when it waved at him. The doctor gave them each their own picture to keep. Seeing the ultrasound seemed to help something click with Nathan. At least once a day he pulls up my shirt and says, "Mama's baby in there." Then he pulls up his own shirt and pats his little buddha belly and says, "Nathan's baby in there." Very cute! I have started having some compilcations, nothing serious-yet, but I have been placed on a modified bed rest plan. I just have to be really careful not to lift things or over-exert myself and I have to stay off my feet a much as possible. We are hoping to avoid the complications of my past and keep off full bed rest. So far, things seem to be heading in the same direction as before, but it's still early and we have plenty of time.

I have other things to post about, but they have pictures with them. Hopfully in the enxt few days I can download the camera into the computer.

FYI

Sorry folks, but a few weeks ago our desktop computer crashed. We have been using the laptop, which crashed last week. We are still in the process of diagnosing the problem on both computers. Ken, the resident tech genius, is very busy with work and preparing to take his instrument rating flight test. We also need to come up with the cash to fix the computers. (Currently, our wiggle room income is going into gas and food, along with the rest of America). All this means is until further notice, we are officially computer-less and I will not be able to blog.

I know how sad you all are, but trust me, I am feeling worse. I love blogging and going back to read about my crazy family. But I have been writing things down and I will post them as soon as I can.

This is the Yeates...signing off.

Avery's Birthday Party

Last Saturday was my niece, Avery's, first birthday party. (I know- I'm a little behind). It was a luau themed party. And everyone had a great time! Avery's grandma made the little cake in the picture, which Avery daintily ate on until she knocked it onto the floor. I have a few pictures of here in her cute swimsuit, but they are all blurry because this girl doesn't hold still!

We spent the afternoon before the party helping Mike and Ashlyn get things ready. I was actually able to help make the kabobs without throwing up! Yeah!! And Papa was the grill expert as you can see below.
Kenny is our little shark. He LOVES to swim and spent the entire party in the pool. And of course, he never swims without his shark goggles!
Nathan enjoyed swimming as well, but was distracted by the watermelon and some bubbles. Very cute!
And here's Mike during clean-up. Nice skirt bro!

Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!

(From left): Landan-3, Avery-1, Nathan-3, Kenny-5, and Gavin- 2 months

We spent the morning of the 4th taking my boys and Landan to see Wall-E. The boys were literally giddy and shaking around with excitement. They each got their own little box of popcorn, candy, and a drink- most of which was gone shortly after the movie started. I know this picture is fuzzy, but I liked it anyway.

I thought the movie was enchanting. The entire first half hour is like a silent movie. But the music and the movements by this little box shaped robot were so well done that even a small child could understand what Wall-E was thinking and feeling. The two main characters say three words during the entire film- Wall-E, Eve, and directive. And the feelings this movie evokes in the audience is amazing. During the "sad and lonely" parts you could hear a pin drop in a theater full of kids. You can't help but be sucked into the emotions of a little cartoon robot. I had to bite back tears at one point- though I will allow for the fact that I am a bit hormonal right now. Anyway, see this movie. It's great! And my kids have been on their hands and knees since playing Wall-E.

At night we had a backyard cook out at our house on the fire pit. We had hot dogs and s'mores. As always, it was a lot of fun. The only hitches were a couple fire ant bites and a stick of wood that gave off black smoke. We practically took apart the entire fire trying to locate the offending stick. There is something magical about a campfire that just makes people feel good and have fun.

After everyone went home and I bathed the smoke smell off my kids we stood in the window of my bedroom and watched several firework shows. Our house is very well situated to see about 4 different shows, though some are far off.

4th of July has always been one of my most favorite holidays. Patriotism is something I feel deep within myself. I love this country with all it stands for and I love to celebrate our freedom. I look around at all I have and think how blessed I am to be born here and to have always enjoyed such a privileged life. So many others in the world do not have the rights and freedoms we have to live the life we choose and be the people we want to be. All I can say is

I'm Proud To Be An American!

Today Makes 8 Years

Goodness, I'm getting old. Today marks my 8 year anniversary. In this day and age, 8 years is sadly considered a long time. In case you missed it last year, and care to know how we met click here.

You know, life has not always been easy for us. But I have never had a single doubt in my mind that Ken was meant to be mine for all eternity. And I have known that since the day I met him. I feel so fortunate that I am still head over heels in love with my husband. I love how my cheeks flush and I get all giddy like a teenager when he comes home from work. I love how he honestly believes I am the most beautiful woman in the world (poor schmuck). I love how his eyes light up and he gets this little crooked smile when he's being mischievous or playful. I love how completely and totally devoted he is to me and our family. And of course, I won't complain that's he's incredibly handsome.

Yep, I'm a lucky woman!
