1st time in my life to think of the menu, to buy raw ingredients, to do all the shopping and bargain...just to prepare some simple meals during my Medicine and Society posting (JKM) in Tanjung Karang

ADAM The Musical
Date: 06 June 2010 (Sun)
Venue: The Actors Studio @Lot 10
Time: 3pm
"While preparing for Adam & Sylvia's wedding, Adam is hospitalised. As Adam lays on his bed, the doctor can only tell Sylvia, "your husband is not well..." Sylvia spirals down an emotional roller coaster, as her inability to believe how lucky she has been to find Adam now is confirmed. She moves thru friends, family, & strangers; their stories of life, death, & surviving provide comfort, horror, & love. Their stories indirectly show the past, present, & the future of her life if she chooses to still marry the sleeping Adam. Adam is about the dangerous time we live in, of suspicion & fear of people & things we don't know. It is abut compassion & strength, & how these qualities can turn the bleakest days into one with light, even if it's just a faint one. Adam is about finding true love, & knowing that we can be very lucky after all..."
I accidentally gotto know this presentation from the chinese newspaper Sin Chew Jit Poh. I've always love musical, orchestra, instrumental ensemble that kind of live performances. So after I read the brief article about it from the newspaper, I found it to be interesting medical-related musical that I don't want to miss! It was the 1st truly Malaysian musical to deal with the HIV/AIDS issue and an unprecedented run of 35 consecutive performances! =D
With the collaboration between The Actors Studio & the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) and Malaysian AIDS Council, this musical has been carried out successfully, hoping to reach out, educate & raising awareness about HIV/AIDS among new generation of people thru the world of arts.
I started to promote it and invite my friends that might be interested as well thru email. And at last me with the accompaniment of 3 course mates (XuVin, JuinYi, KokJoo) have made it and we indeed called it a worth (with merely student price of RM30 to get such awesome life opportunity!). Magnificent. Fascinating!
One thing to ponder...There was one scene showing a HIV+ patient being stigmatised and received unfair treatment from the medical personnel. I doubt if this real happening still exist in each and every hospital or medical setting, more precisely in Malaysia..because this should not be a case as medical personnel especially doctors should have the knowledge of this retrovirus, ways of manage & treat the illness, not to stigmatise, but to understand, to accept, and to show empathy to the patient...It is a great lesson for us as future doctors...
