Leaves fly or flutter

(like a bug whose name has butter)…

Leaves fly or flutter (like a bug whose name has butter)…

Green winged creatures muster;

together they’re a

wonder.

In nature, one may find a retreat,

peace, relief, and even release.

These details can be found

near American River

(where meaningful moments

are deeply delivered)…

Green worn on St. Patrick’s Day (17th of March)

and National Green Week (also happening through March)

remind me of these thoughts (in this article: they’re its heart).

My poem and my photo share the name Leaves Fly.

Gravity: what these leaves seem like

they’d defy…

Two women share a similar vision;

not too distant, rocks seem to listen.

During winter (and near a river)

they seem to consider

something deeper or bigger.

Thoughts feel streaming in this scene

or picture.

Nature may appear to communicate

or whisper.

Women’s History Month and Listening

Awareness Month being March

plus International Day of Action

for Rivers (14th of March)

remind me of these thoughts

(in this article: they’re its heart).

American River

is where these rocks are located.

Exploring nature

can make one contemplative.

This poem is based on the above photo

(that at least feels tantamount);

is where it is found…

These two women seem to

Orangevale View published my poem “Chopsticks Perceived”

in its February 27, 2026 issue on page 18. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-4-Vol-19-2.27.26-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Chopsticks Perceived

Chopsticks that are perceived as uncooked noodles

led to the idea that uncooked noodles

could have been the very first chopsticks.

Hunger took the form of how or what caused this?

Adding on to this gripping subject of discussion,

one of my friends wondered (just before a luncheon)

what if a bunch of noodles are really cooked chopsticks?

Here’s my response (after she posits):

If folks unknowingly eat them,

they’ve been tricked by these ‘sticks.

A slow day (going okay) allowed

these topics.

A day that may feel slow

is still a chance to grow

and consider more

than what we think we know…

And a shout-out to my friend

who’s featured in this poem

(something that I penned)…

Orangevale View published my poem “Bouquet”

in its February 13, 2026 issue on page 6. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-3-Vol-19-2.13.26-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Bouquet

A bouquet was mentioned

by a guy who’s buying one

for his first-ever girlfriend

(who sometimes calls him hon).

The way that the guy said bouquet

sounds like boo kwet.

A listener might think

how he said it is incorrect

and that it’s supposed to sound

like boo kay (because it’s French).

From his point of view,

how he said it makes sense

since (a similarly spelled word) banquet

sounds like bang kwet.

Understandable is what he tried to say

and what he meant.

While a word might have a silent letter

and be mispronounced,

the thoughtful effort to make one feel better

ultimately counts…

Before I end this post:

Orangevale View would not have published Bouquet (and my other poems/writings in its previous issues) without Brad Tatum who is Orangevale View‘s publisher and founder and who recently passed on. To say that he’s kind, that he listened, and that he did A LOT of good hard work championing for others and for the community (and for a long time) does not feel like that’s enough to say about him.

More info about Brad and his impact on others can be found via the following link https://facebook.com/OrangevaleView/posts/1513966604063253/

and on pages 1 and 4 of OV View‘s February 13, 2026 issue (the link to the issue is posted earlier in this post).

Thank you Brad, and rest in peace.

Orangevale View published my poem “Choreographer”

in its January 30, 2026 issue on page 9. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-2-Vol-19-1.30.26-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Choreographer

If a choreographer likes a cookie,

it could be an Oreo

(since choreographer includes

the letters forming oreo).

A cookie can give energy to dance allegro,

with a trio, with moves that are adagio,

maybe really low,

and while doing cardio.

The possible new year’s resolution

of exercising more in January

reminds me of these thoughts

(that I’m now sharing).

A choreographer

can sweeten moves of a frolicker.

I hope my poem makes your day

awesomer…

Orangevale View published my poem “Of the Twelve”

in its January 16, 2026 issue on page 6. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-1-Vol-19-1.16.26-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Of the Twelve

Of the twelve months’ names,

January is the only one to include

the sound of the word new.

Since January begins the new year,

what if its nu can be a clue?

While new and nu are homophones

(differently spelled),

January’s nu (like deja vu)

is ringing a bell.

New Year’s Day and Ring a Bell Day

being the 1st of January

remind me of these thoughts

(that I’m now sharing).

The echoes in this poem

might seem like coincidence,

but if you listen, reflect, question,

you may learn and find hints…

Recorded my readings of “Morning Walk”

The links to my readings of Morning Walk:

Also relating to January, since National Science Fiction Day and Happy Meow Year for Cats Day happen this month (both on January 2nd),

I’m reposting the link to my readings of my poem Mecha Pilot Kit (published by OV View last year) :

and (its pausing version)

And since Martin Luther King Jr. Day is in January (on this month’s third Monday),

I’m reposting the link to my reading of my poem MLK Jr. (published by OV View five years ago) :

The link to OV View: https://ovview.com

Plus, the following is my revised poem (January Readings) which includes the announcement of recorded readings of Morning Walk and info relating to Mecha Pilot Kit and MLK Jr. :

January Readings

Readings of three poems (published in OV View)

were recorded; they can now be listened to.

Two of three are Morning Walk and Mecha Pilot Kit.

The third is MLK Jr. (about the activist).

For those who may be curious to know how they sound:

https://zfthrimej.wordpress.com has links to where they’re found…

These three poems are also in this blog

(continuing the memory of what I wrote and thought)

and posted at different times ago.

Orangevale View published my poem “Top of Tree”

in its December 19, 2025 issue on page 19. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-24-Vol-18-12.19.25-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Top of Tree

The top of a tree looks like

it’s giving the middle finger.

Maybe that tree could be

thought of as a clinker,

and maybe the way it looks

could be thought of as a zinger.

That tree got flocked up;

it’s like it’s saying “Flock you”.

The spirit of that tree

feels honest and true.

National Giving Month

or Month of Giving (December)

and Christmas trees

that are flocked in December

remind me of these thoughts

(in this poem: they’re remembered).

A tree can send a message

and plant a seed of poetry.

That tree’s gesture: uncensored,

shameless, and

free…

Orangevale View published my poem “Voodoo Maker”

in its November 7, 2025 issue on page 13. The link to the issue:

Click to access Issue-21-Vol-18-11.7.25-web.pdf

For anyone who’d like to read my poem now, here it is:

Voodoo Maker

A voodoo maker of dolls likes ATMs

since they encourage her to enter pins.

Digits could be covered.

Pins can go in limbs,

shins, and chins

of these lifelike creations.

Halloween Safety Month (October)

and International Artist Day (25th of October)

remind me of these thoughts

(in this poem: they’re not over).

Like characters that can

be played at Trunk or Treat,

these dolls may be used for healing

and stress relief…

***

For the record, this poem is a fleshed out version of an earlier post.

Voodoo Maker‘s short version can be found in this blog via the following link:
