Contemplating SIMPLE

Contemplating SIMPLE.

Where is the balance?  Where is the line between enjoyable and stressful?  Why do I so often sabotage my days by trying to do too much and spread myself so thin?

Here is my example for the day.  A birthday party, and a basketball game.  Fun things!!  Cake pops.  Pinterest project that boosts my mom-confidence.  I have never attempted cake pops before.  Cake balls, yes.  Cake pops, no.  I figured they'd be simple though.  Right?  Not for me.  I got going on these babies first thing this morning and didn't think I'd have any problem whatsoever being done in time for the game at noon.  Wrong I was.  Those things were a pain!  For me anyway.  How do you keep the darn chocolate from dripping down the stick before it hardens??  Frustratingly wiping stick after stick and trying to neatly wipe away the chocolate icicles hanging from the underside of my cake pops, I would not give up.  I was determined to create perfectly adorable edible basketballs...

Well, at 11 a.m., I had to call it quits.  I scrambled to get the girls and I ready and head to Stockton's game, which we were late to.  Now here I was, having missed the first quarter with unfinished plain orange balls at home.  Grrr!  What fun are plain orange cake balls?!  And honestly, am I the only parent to be late to their kid's big game?!  Double fail!  And lots of mom guilt.  I realized this is a feeling I get far too often, and I realized that most of the time, it is 100% my own fault.

I have this tendency to over-do and over-plan.  I expect things to take less time than they do, and I try to fit in things that really, truly are not necessary.  This morning, that thing was cake pops.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm not against Pinterest and I'm not against cute.  I'm just pointing out that on this day, a store-bought cake would have saved me stress and two failures.  And guess what?  It would have been just fine.  I may not earn crafty mom points, but I would have enjoyed my morning.

So this is me starting a goal to simplify.  Stop feeling guilty for taking time to relax and enjoy simple things.  Stop staying busy, for the sake of staying busy.  My time would be better spent playing ball or barbies or blocks :)

I'm Back!

I cannot believe it's been almost two years since I made a post!
I feel so disconnected!
SO much has happened and this is my best effort to catch you up:

Sorry 2011, you're getting the skimpy version because quite frankly, you're old news (and mostly, I don't have time for anything more....)  Here are the most important/biggest/craziest events from 2011:
  • 1/25/11:  Zack and I celebrated anniversary #3  :)
  • 2/21/11:  Stockton turned 6  :)
  • 7/1/11:  Kristin turned 26  :)
  • 7/14/11:  Stockton got staples in his head-swimming accident :(
  • 8/22/11:  Stockton starts 1st grade  :)
  • 9/8/11:  Jaycie turned 1  :)
  • 9/11/11:  Kailee turned 3  :)
  • 9/14/11:  Kailee started preschool  :)
  • 10/4/11:  Zack turned 27  :)
  • 11/28/11:  Kailee got staples in her head-falling accident :(
  • 12/31/11:  reflected on an amazing year  :) :) :)

A few more things I didn't put in the list:
lots of firsts for Jaycie including learning to sit up, crawl, eat food, say her first words, and walk, Kailee learning to sings lots of songs, Stockton graduating kindergarten, Kailee graduating early intervention, concerts in the park, fireworks, swimming a LOT, a trip to Twin Falls, going to the zoo, going fishing, family reunion, family pictures, going to Kangaroo zoo, going to Boondocks, Hansen planetarium, playing with friends, celebrating holidays, school programs, hunting season, fishing season, Festival of Trees, visiting family, playing, going on walks, and more and more and more...  it was a good year!

Now, I'll give you 2012 and I'll even include pics!

JANUARY 2012
The kids spent a lot of time playing with their new Christmas toys... Jaycie loved lounging in her little pink chair, and Kailee had fun on her horse.  Stockton got a cute and much needed haircut (I adore him with a buzz).  I was able to be a parent helper for Stockton's field trip to the treehouse museum (so fun!).  We also went to Boondock's, and spent hours playing out in the snow!

FEBRUARY 2012

*playing in the snow
*Valentine's Day! <3
*Stockton turned 7!  I can't believe he is getting so big!
*Boondock's to celebrate his birthday
*pigtails
*Zack won a fishing tournament and was giddy for days :)

 MARCH 2012
Honestly, March was kinda blah... it always seems to be that way for us.  Cold and no holidays :(
We did do a few things though...
Jaycie was going through a phase where all she wanted to do was color.  She called it "Elmo" though since she has an Elmo coloring book.  When she wants to color, she just asks for elmo.  Cute.  She colored all over the bathroom floor one day and the expression on her cracked me up.
Oh, and random story about the window.  Kailee loves to stand in front of them all the time and she'll kinda bump her forehead against them.  Well, she accidentally broke that one with her head.
Crazy huh!  Thank goodness she wasn't hurt!

 APRIL 2012
April was a really fun month for us!  Of course Easter is always fun... Easter bunny brings baskets, eat lots of candy, go to church, dye eggs, visit family: typical Easter celebration and we all had a blast!
Also in April, Zack and I both did our first 5K... it was called Color Me Rad!  We both loved it and decided it's going to be a yearly tradition for sure!

MAY 2012
-Stockton's Mother's Day Program at school!
-Jaycie loves to color on the sidewalk!
-Kailee graduated from her preschool class!
-pinterest craft projects for teacher gifts :)
-Family outing to Wheeler Farm
-Happy Mother's Day!

JUNE 2012
Main event: Father's Day!
Thank you Zack for being such a great dad,
working so hard and doing so much for us!
We love you!  xoxo!

So I think that's about that.  For anyone still reading my monster of a post, thanks!  I've so missed being in the loop and being in touch with everyone!  I'm excited to be back!  I'll post soon!  xoxo

Big News!

Okay I'm totally lame for waiting this long,
and most of you might already know,
but for those of you who don't....

We're having a baby!
(It's a girl)

Yep, #3 is on her way... I'm due September 17th, so I'm past the halfway mark! Yay! I was going to try to upload her cute little ultrasound picture, but I couldn't figure out how to do it since I don't have a scanner. I'll try to get it up here sometime though!

I'll also try to get another big update going so you can hear about all that's happened in our last six months... :)
