KungfuNite
15 - Jan - 05 - Saturday Nite Live
Ever since my first year in usm, I wanted to go to the KungFu nite, but didn't really have the opportunity. I was quite busy back then, and always missed out the event due to assignments or group discussions. Now dat I don't have those commitments anymore, I thot I mustn't miss the event this year. Shasha and Izan were as keen as I was, so we agreed 2go together. We didn't buy the tickets earlier, coz they usually sell it on the day itself. I planned everything out, the car kidnapping, the over-nite stay at shasha's room, and wisely using my younger sister who was involved in cheering team 4 the TOT as a reason to use the car the whole weekend, haha!
Upon meeting shasha and Izan at dataran merah, I was very very devastated wit the fact that the tickets were actually sold out! What? So fast one meh? It was terrible as I stayed back all day long just for the event. We sent Izan back and stayed at the CTI lab… well, not for long. Shasha called Eugene up, who happened to be last years emcee, to ask if there were any tickets left. Haha, glad she did, coz he actually got us complimentary tickets instead, hehehe… but izan didnt join us. Eugene was waiting for us there, and there was a very long queue but we managed to make it to the hall. Wah, looking thru the huge number of audiences… so many familiar faces ar? I guess almost all the second year comSci students were there in the DTSP, and yes, they were my fellow ex-students. Ooh, no wonder laa.. the project director herself was one of my ex-students @ their friend, and quite a number of them involved in the performances too.
The nite was opened with a lion dance and the usual opening speeches. The acts and performances were brilliant and I was excited, additionally looking at my ex-students performing. I kept on telling shasha, this one la,that one laa, describing some of my students to her, I think she didn't really wanna know all that, as she was more interested with the performances, but I just couldn't help it, kinda excited! Hehe.. felt like as though I am a mother attending my kids performing in kindergarten concert, where all the mums wil be like, "thats my girl wearing the orange ribbons",or "thats my boy playing as the pineapple!" Hahaha!!
The stunts were admirable, making some of the audiences cheering and whistling 4 them. One, seated behind me,I dont know wat method he used lah, until his saliva oso can hit my eyes one, yuck! It was hilarious though and shasha was laughing al nite long. The Kungfu club invited other martial arts group to perform, the palapes tempur tanpa senjata, Taijutsu+Ninjutsu (ninja) Japanese form of martial arts based in Johor, and Capuera, a combination of martial arts with dancing steps originated from Brazil (like the one in movie Only The Strong). The ninja sensei, Pergh macho giler! And YOUNG!! Ahahaha! It was an excellent demo as he gave interesting details be4 his students performed the actions. Samurai-alike, and nerve-breaking (the last stunt where the sensei cut watermelons placed on his students heads + stomach) Capuera was rather entertaining, awesome moves, very much close 2the break-dance. They were all very fit, moving the upper and lower body, balancing and dancing to the beat, it was very energetic. Palapes came up with a good performances too, especially the one-2-one fight and breaking bricks with their heads.
The kungfu performances took it back from there and again, I got excited watching my students on stage. The event ended with lucky draw with grand prize of 21 inch tv set. So, I didnt get any prize... but it was after all a lucky day, coz I got a complimentary ticket and get to watch forms of martial arts. Lucky lor! Our night ended with supper at the mappley not maple, shasha… just like its shasha not sasha or shasa.. or like its azleena not lina or ina.. ehehehe :P . My other achievement was bein able to kidnap my sister back home from TOT the following day, haha!
