WHY?
Rental assistance is being proposed by city, county, and state partners, as well as in absolutely unprecedented ways by our community, but it takes weeks or months for funds to reach the families who need them, and the funds are not enough. As we are in crisis, without more time, renters will face eviction filings that permanently damage their housing records and push them toward homelessness, even if assistance later becomes available. Extending the notice period helps renters stay housed and also helps landlords recover rent payments rather than navigating costly, time-consuming evictions and vacancies.
