with a sideways view

IMG-20160705-WA0004The elusive horizon
challenged the sun
“chase your shadow”
And the train tracks carried away all her sorrow

With a sideways view
She fell through
“it’s leaving the page”
And her thoughts became actors on the stage

Tesla’s pride would have been evident
She burned electric blue like his current

a tiny snowflake in a city by the lake

Photo by Jill Wellington on Pexels.com

I walked into the city one cold windy day and saw a man in gray
He had an umbrella made of steel with fine lines on display
I had seen that kind of umbrella once before
Described in a story I read while sitting on the floor

I love the bright lights of the city against the icy wetness of the rain
The splash of the puddles on my feet and against the glass window panes
Reminds me of a little lost bear looking for home
And someone took him to a place where he would not be alone

The loud sounds of the city gets muffled by the night
And sometimes snowflakes on their downward flight
Absorb the sounds and even some smells so well
You feel like you are walking through an empty air well

It was in a windy city on the banks of a famous lake
That I saw and caught my first tiny snowflake
I let it rest on the sleeve of my dark brown coat
As I watched a thousand others descend and float

we are connected

IMG_20160320_175107

Passengers on a journey to a place they must go
They talk about things no one else will know
Weave a story and maybe add some spice
To make their simple lives seem quite nice

Acquaintances keeping up the small talk
Exchange pleasantries like red roses on a stalk
Fragrant blossoms but with thorny stems
Their conversation stiff like cross stitched hems

Friends together on a lifetime adventure
You can only hear giggles and hearty laughter
Reminiscing melancholy stories that shake their bones
As they cross the miles and time zones

Lovers holding hands and sleeping temple to cheek
Speaking of joyful times and others that were bleak
Whispers in hushed tones and quick stolen kisses
Making promises and a million wishes

Travelers going in the same direction
Each with a different itinerary and intention
Bound together by time and space
Connected just by being in the same place

cerulean sky

Photo by Elle Hughes on Pexels.com

She wore a dress the colour of a cerulean sky

And sat in front of me, with eyes that asked why
I smiled and tried to speak but my words were too weak
She moved slowly, dissolving slightly, like a blue streak

I ached to learn the pain she carried within
Those that made her skin stretch paper thin
She wore a blue dress, the color of a cerulean sky
And left suddenly before I could ask why

Standing at the intersection between red and green
I glimpsed a blue dress, she seemed so serene
I vowed to speak to her, my heart beat so fast
I begged her look at me, she just had to, she must

But the sun caught her attention, and she turned her face
She’s fluid like water and my pulse starts to race
It must be cold in that dress so blue,
Don’t pretend I know it’s true
Tell me the secrets you hold tight,
Share with me I will make it all right

She wore a blue dress, the color of a cerulean sky
And stood next to me, with eyes that asked why
I hesitated and she went by
I never had the chance to ask why
