Every Novel Begins with a Spark

Every novel I’ve ever written began with a single, quiet spark — a question, an image, a feeling that wouldn’t leave me alone. For Time Murmurations, that spark arrived when I wondered: “What if someone could slip between moments, into the place where time bends?”
What would it feel like to experience the world half a second away from everyone else? What truths might be waiting there?

Here is how the novel opens: “I’ve gone away. And I wonder, do they notice? I am here but not. I smile and nod in suspended greetings. But it really isn’t me…”

That first paragraph didn’t come from an outline or a plan. It came from instinct. From the strange, beautiful idea of a person who exists partly outside of time, and the question of what that would do to their heart.

From there, the world unfurled:
Starlings.
Time loops.
A grieving ornithologist.
A future on the brink.
A villain who wants to rewrite history itself.
And the people who stand in the way.

It all began with one spark.

Writers, I’d Love to Hear from You

We each carry our own sparks. The lines that begin a book, the questions that won’t leave us alone, the scenes that insist on being written.Whether you’re drafting your twentieth novel or your very first chapter, opening lines matter. They hold the DNA of everything that follows.

✨ If you’re a writer, share the opening lines of your novel or work-in-progress in the comments.
I’d love to read it! And let’s fill this space with new worlds.

Weekly Creative Update: Submissions, Revisions & Time Murmurations Love

It’s been a wonderfully full week on the creative front, and I wanted to take a moment to share the highlights and the gratitude I’m feeling for everyone following along on this journey.

Time Murmurations Finds Its Wings

My newest book, Time Murmurations, is officially out in the world!
This week I began hearing from readers; friends, colleagues, and early supporters who are already enjoying it. A few have even asked me to sign their copies, which never stops feeling surreal or heartwarming. Moments like that remind me why we write.

Celestial Pirouette On the Page & On the Screen

I spent part of the week revising Celestial Pirouette (the short story) so it aligns with the screenplay version. After polishing it, I submitted it to Clarkesworld Magazine. Fingers crossed!

On the film side, after insightful feedback from beta readers, I revised the Celestial Pirouette screenplay and entered it into the Chicago Script Awards. I’ll hear next month. This project continues to evolve in the most exciting ways.

Steady Momentum

Between newsletters, social posts, and connecting with readers, it’s been a lively promotional week. I’m grateful for every message, every review, and every person cheering me on.

Thank you all for being part of this creative season with me.
Here’s to pages written, stories shared, and whatever the next week brings.

A November Full of Gratitude, Time Travel, and New Beginnings

Happy November, friends!
As the autumn leaves begin to swirl, I’ve found myself reflecting on creativity, change, and the beautiful ways stories take flight. This season brings a double celebration for me in the launch of my newest book and the unveiling of my redesigned author website.

Time Murmurations Takes Flight

I’m thrilled to share that my first science fiction novel, Time Murmurations, is now available and already finding its readers. Seeing this time-bending story out in the world has been one of the great joys of my year.

The novel follows Renata, a quiet ornithologist who finds solace in studying starling murmurations…until the birds begin pulling her through time itself. What starts as a strange flicker quickly becomes a terrifying slip across collapsing timelines. Her only ally is Collin Ainsworth, a physicist from 1986 who understands these fractures far better than he should.

Together they must uncover a device that could stabilize time—or destroy the world as they know it.

You can explore everything here:

Thank you to Zaida and NewInBooks for a thoughtful interview about my newest novel Time Murmurations! We talked about inspiration, writing process, starlings, time travel, and the emotional roots behind the story.
