Glory in the House
Atop Mount Moriah, the house was made ready. The aroma of the numerous sacrifices ascended to the Lord on high. The ark of the covenant rested in the holiest place on the mercy seat. The priests paraded out of the holy place, set apart … made ready to lead the people in worship. Singers and musicians, dressed in white linen, awaited their cue.
One hundred and twenty priests sounded their trumpets and the singers sang. Their sound was—
“as one, to make one sound to be heard
in praising and thanking the Lord;
and when they lifted up their voice
with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick,
and praised the Lord, saying,
For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever:
that then the house was filled with a cloud,
even the house of the Lord …
the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.”
2 Chronicles 5:13,14b, KJV
Can you hear the monumental sound of trumpets, harps, cymbals and voices echoing from the mountain top? Can you imagine the cloud of the glory of the Lord filling the house? Can you hope to see the revelation of God’s glory among us today? Is it possible?
The cloud first appears in the Bible when the Lord lead Israel from Egypt and into the wilderness (Exodus 13: 21-22) He manifested himself in the cloud throughout their journey.
He appeared to Ezekiel in a vision—
“Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub,
and stood over the threshold of the house;
and the house was filled with the cloud,
and the court was full of the brightness of the Lord’s glory.”
Ezekiel 10:4, KJV
The Lord God spoke from the cloud to Peter, James, and John during the transfiguration of Christ.
The cloud received Jesus and took him back to the Father.
One day, the cloud will carry him back to receive his people.
“this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven,
shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go …
Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherewith comfort one another with these words.”
Acts 1:11b; 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18, KJV
Finally, when Christ returns to the earth to set up his kingdom,
“Behold, he cometh with clouds;
and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him:
and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of hm.
Even so, Amen.”
Revelation 1:7, KJV
But what about now … is it possible to experience the brightness of the glory of the Lord—his cloud of glory?
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37, KJV
Not only can we experience the glory of the Lord, now, we have better than a cloud. We have the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us—his glory has made our hearts his house. For—
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;
yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by the faith of the Son of God,
who loved me, and gave himself for me …
To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;”
Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:27, KJV
The same Holy Spirit, the overshadowing glory of God, we have seen throughout the scriptures lives in us. He waits to make himself known to us and to others through us. He does this
- as we offer ourselves a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God,
- we learn to praise him … For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever …
- and without shame proclaim he is worthy of our praise.
May our houses be filled with the brightness of his glory and —
“our light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16b, KJV
It’s time his household praise the Lord with one voice making a sound greater than the one hundred twenty trumpets.
AmenÂ
