The construction work proceeds and real progress is seen.
- This work was done in early July in front of the Governor’s mansion. In a bit of construction humor, two “No Parking” signs are planted at the bottom of the hole.
- A small excavator was used for part of the sidewalk removal. Here its arm frames part of its work.
- The sidewalk is gone and the driveway will be going shortly.
- In watching the work, one of the surprises to me is the amount of work that is still done by hand. Here workers finish a trench in our front yard.
- The first layer of the road had been put down and now a rather nifty piece of equipment comes in to put in the roadside curb and gutter.
- Working in tandem with a concrete truck, the curb and gutter making equipment moves slowly down the road.
- The people controlling these machines have to be pretty skilled to make sure everything is occurring at the right pace and that they are staying on line.
- The finishing work on the gutters is done by one guy with a simple hand tool who walks behind gutter extruder.
- When the extruding machine is done for the day, it can be raised about two feet and then is spray cleaned on site.
- The curb and gutter are finally in.
- The next step is for the road builders to lay down another layer of sand and gravel, which this grader levels.
- A dump truck supplies the road grader with the sand and gravel needed to level the road.
- The gutters are in and the road is a road once more, even if we can’t actually drive on it yet.
