It’s Sunday 22nd. Three weeks since our last SAL update, so time to link up with

Three weeks ago, I had just started work on the lion.

So, for this time . . . more lion.

He might take a couple of updates to complete.

SAL “girl with lion” #6

Photo 3 weeks ago was this.

Since then I’ve managed a few sessions of xstitch and my fabric now looks like this.

Linking with a group of xstitchers all kept in order by Avis.  We come together once every 3 weeks to share our updates and cheer each other along.

SAL “Girl with Lion” #5

Slowly but surely on this design. Not because I’m not enjoying it, but because I’m still concentrating on knitting most evenings.

Three weeks ago, I was here.

Since then, the cross stitch on the girl/woman is complete.

before backstitch

There will be some backstitch detail to add, notably to give her glasses and add the details for the leash she’s holding in her left hand. But for next time, I’ll be moving across and beginning work on the lion.

For info, the design I’m stitching is by Hanna, a Ukrainian designer who runs a shop on etsy: MyBraveStitch.

SAL “Girl with Lion” #4

I’m having a hard time getting back to cross stitch.  Not that I don’t enjoy stitching anymore, but I seem to have become more of a knitter recently. Anyway, thank goodness the SAL reminders from Avis keep coming, and giving me a nudge to put a few stitches in.

last time

this time

For those of you waiting impatiently for the lion . . . you’ll have to wait a bit longer I’m afraid. The plan is to finish stitching the young lady before moving on to the lion.

If you have have a few minutes to spare, why don’t you join me in a blog-hop . . . links below to other SAL members.

I’m joining fellow SAL members

with an update on my current SAL project.

Not a huge amount of progress, but I was having problems with my aida. It was a piece scavenged from a “made in China” kit, and was ever so stiff.  It was proving very difficult to work on because it was giving me wrist ache. I finally got around to washing it, in warm, soapy water and the stiffness must have been starch, because the aida has softened up, making it easier to work on.

getting back to mystery SALs

I’d started off the year, industriously stitching several mystery SALs with Hélène . . . but stitching and most crafting  fell by the wayside, when the husband died in April.  I’d managed to keep up with one xstitch project, and have gradually begun fitting in some knitting and sewing as I adjust to my new life.  Last month, I felt it was about time I contacted Hélène and picked up where I’d left off with one of the mystery SALs.  And that’s when I realised, I never shared photos with you of April.

Let’s play catch-up.

Above is how things looked for cat-themed mystery SAL.

a very Frida-inspired cat, which I finished off as a card,  adding a 3D silk rose.

Then, there was the complimentary chart.

I’d also signed myself up to join in with the mystery Easter SAL and never shared, because it was only a few days before Easter weekend that life went pear-shaped.

with not much progress on my side.  Three weeks ago I’d just started a new project

I’ve been doing lots of knitting in the evenings, but not a huge amount of xstitch. And when I do xstitch, I’ve been working on a couple of small projects (which I will reveal soon). As a result, my SAL project only saw a bit of black & blues added.

SAL “Girl with a lion” # 1 new start

Last time I had a happy dance, with a design by Hanna Levchuk, which I’d finished and framed.

For my next project, I printed out another of her designs that I bought on etsy, and have made a start.

Should be a lot quicker to stitch since it’s not a full coverage like the last one. But this SAL isn’t about how fast we stitch. It’s about enjoying what we’re working on, and simply seeing projects grow with every update.

SAL “Girl on Pier” #10 (happy dance)

Having a happy dance today!

Three weeks ago

this is where I was.  I realised there wasn’t a huge amount of stitching left to do, although there were lots of colour changes, so I made a final push to get this design finished.

finished and framed.

For info, the design is by Hanna Levchuk, a Ukranian designer who has a shop on etsy: My Brave Stitch.  I love her work. She also posts on Instagram, and is one of the rare designers out there who actually takes the time to stitch her own designs!

Linking up with fellow stitchers, for our 3-weekly SAL updates.

I’ll be choosing a new design for next time . . . maybe a kit from the stash, or, maybe a different design by Hanna.  Ooooh the suspense!
