"Your true self is ultimately your strongest self," that's a key takeaway of a poignant new exhibit of photos, essays and oral histories in which dozens of CUNY faculty and staff share their personal and professional coming out stories and what it means to be LGBTQ in the educational space.
CUNY SPH Dean Ayman El-Mohandes has been elected by his peers as the new chair of the Board of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, representing schools and programs nationwide accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

CUNY journalism director Linda Villarosa, a contributor to the New York Time Magazine, has been inducted into the LGBTQ Journalists Hall of Fame. Her new book, Under the Skin: Race, Inequality and the Health of a Nation, will be published next year.

“From City to the World,” a new podcast series hosted by a CUNY college president, explores our vulnerability to hackers in the U.S. election, from complex cybersecurity risks to our reliance on electronic voting machines.

Iconic rapper Heavy D will be memorialized with a towering sculpture created by a CUNY prof who won his first solo, public, permanent commission to create the $100,000 piece of art in the late hip-hop star's hometown.

A grad student is a recipient of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award and hopes to travel to Azerbaijan next year. ETAs help support local teachers with English language instruction to students, while serving as cultural ambassadors for the U.S.

Madelyn De Los Santos
Madelyn De Los Santos, City College ’22, is used to paving her own path where one may not have existed before. As a junior, she’s already taken on a number of internships, plans events for her program and supports the marketing team of the Public Relations Society of America’s New York chapter. Madelyn hopes to work in travel communications following graduation.
Madelyn’s advice: “Don't be afraid to ask for what you need! I was able to morph my last internship into something in my field just by sharing what my goals were.”
