CancerCare's Stories of Help and Hope

Throughout the year, CancerCare presents the stories of people who have cancer, their caregivers and more.

For Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we share the story of Maria A., who faced incredible challenges after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Through a CancerCare support group, she was able to start connecting with others who shared her experience and found help through our other support services to help her through difficult times.

She shares her story with many others in our Stories of Help and Hope.

A Season of Gratitude

As we approach Thanksgiving and look to the new year, the attention of many might be on a sense of gratitude and well-being.

These feelings may seem distant to those who are affected by cancer, who may feel out of step with the world around them. However hard it may be, expressions of gratitude and appreciation can lead to an increased sense of mindfulness, reduced stress and better quality of life for those going through treatment and their caregivers.

In this season of holidays, we remember all of these individuals and encourage them to reach out to family and friends in ways that can help find moments of peace and meaning as they remember and reflect on what they enjoy and cherish.

Celebrating National Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month. This is a chance to recognize the family members who provide countless hours of help throughout the year to those with a cancer diagnosis. Spouses, partners, siblings, parents, children, grandchildren and more help keep appointments and organize prescriptions, pick up chores around the house, fix meals, take care of pets, provide emotional support and far more.

While remembering these efforts this particular month, CancerCare is proud to offer resources, support and advice to these caregivers all year long.

My Cancer Circle is an additional free and easy way to organize support and resources among friends and family. Take a look today!
