Do you ever watch the news, questioning if God is in control? Here are some of God's promises to help us remain strong confident that God is in control and His Spirit will help us live in victory.

Do you ever watch the news and ask if God is in control?

Scripture warns us of the enemy’s influence on people, who affect what happens in this sinful world, but it also assures us that God is Almighty and All-powerful.

Isaiah wrote…

I am the One who made the earth
and created people to live on it.
With my hands I stretched out the heavens.
All the stars are at my command.

Isaiah 45:12

Although the enemy has been defeated, he remains, as Jesus called him, the father of lies. So, while we await the Lord’s return, we understand that satan continues to use evil, chaos, and confusion to fill people with doubt, fear, and anxiety.

But, praise God! Everyone who has the Spirit with and within them can resist the his lies and live the victory Jesus died to give us.

John said it like this…

You belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4

So, let’s look at some of God’s promises to help us stand strong on the powerful TRUTH that God is in control and His Spirit will help us live in victory.

Verses to Pray
God is In Control
Spirit Help Me Live in Victory

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8–9

Heavenly Father, this world is full of voices, and the enemy uses many of them to upset us and fill us with doubt. It’s nothing new. He has been tempting people to doubt You since his first success in the Garden.

I am so sorry for the times I have allowed him to distract and dishearten me. Please forgive me. You have graciously given us everything we need to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. Please give me a SEEKer’s heart. May I pursue a closer relationship with You through Your Word, prayers, and encouraging fellowship with other wise believers.

Bless me with a discerning heart, to KNOW Your TRUTH and TRUST Your will. Even when I don’t understand life’s circumstances, help me remember that I can always rely on Your LOVE. Amen.

So humble yourselves before God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

Father, throughout Your Word, historical records, and just looking around at life, it’s clear that on our own, we aren’t very good at resisting the lies of the devil, the enemy of our souls. Without wisdom and discernment that come from You, we will foolishly listen to and be persuaded by his tempting twists of the truth.

But with You, we can have everything we need to see through his lies. When we stand in faith on the firm foundation of Jesus, our Savior, we can identify deception and resist him.

Your Word is the weapon that makes him retreat. I humbly give my heart to You. With the help of Your Spirit, please help me hold Your promises in my heart so that I am prepared to resist and reject every lie and live for Your glory. Amen.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?
Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity,
or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Romans 8:35, 37

Oh Lord, I thank and praise You for this powerful promise. When life’s circumstances feel overwhelming. You are in control. When my heart is broken. You are in control. When the world feels chaotic. You are in control.

When I am faced with troubles, persecution, hunger, poverty, danger, or death … You are in control, and nothing can separate me from Your love. I don’t have to live in fear or anxiety because You have defeated sin, death, and any power the devil wields. I can live in victory because I am Yours and You are with me forever. Amen.

But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever;
His intentions can never be shaken.

Psalm 33:11

Father, Your Word promises that everything good and perfect is a gift from You. When I look at the world and see so little that seems trustworthy, thank you for being perfectly consistent and for giving us Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

You have always kept Your promises in the past, and You will keep them forever and always. You promised to send a Messiah, and You sent Jesus. You promised never to leave or forsake us, and You never have. You promised that our Savior, Jesus, will return for us, and we can be confident that He will.

You have given us powerful truth for life; truth that gives us strength for today and hope for tomorrow. I thank you and give myself to You in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore you as the One who is over all things.

1 Chronicles 29:11

O Lord, You are in control. You are great! And all power, glory, victory, and majesty are Yours. You created everything in the heavens and on the earth. It all belongs to You.

By Your grace, I belong to You. I worship and adore You. I cry “holy” with all creation. Please help me lift Your name and share Your love. You are Lord of all. You are Lord of my life. You are in control. Amen.

Joni Eareckson Tada wrote…

“Nothing is a surprise to God; nothing is a setback to His plans; nothing can thwart His purposes; and nothing is beyond His control.”

And Lysa Terkuerst wrote…

“God is mighty. God is caring. God is worthy of praise. God is loving. God is able. God is in control. Nothing takes God by surprise. Some sweet reminders to soak in before falling asleep tonight.”

So, when the enemy speaks lies that invite doubt, fear, and anxiety, remind him that you trust God, and God is in control.

  5. As it says in Proverbs, “No matter what your plans, the final outcome is in God’s hands.” How grateful I am that God’s capable hands are always directing my paths. I know that I don’t always see this clearly, and try to go my own way, but in the end, HE will work it all out.
God bless you my friend, with a safe and wonderful week.
