Today was a short week at work. I had today off for a parent-teacher conference comp day.
And I am down to eight weeks before retirement.
Today was a short week at work. I had today off for a parent-teacher conference comp day.
And I am down to eight weeks before retirement.
The first round of rains might have missed me Monday afternoon, but that was just the first of many rounds coming over the rest of the week. And the next round was just about time I let the dog out on Monday evening. I also had to check Melba while he was out doing his thing. I decided to take my camera to take pictures of the approaching storm. It was actually a severe one.
By this time of night with the heavy clouds, it was really dark. Except for the lightning.
And there was a lot of lightning.
Eventually, it arrived and brought some rain.
I am very grateful for the rain.
The next morning, when I went out to check melba and open the window in the Love Shack for the chickens, I decided to do a quick check of the rain gauge. Um. That was not a good idea because it was still dark enough that I couldn’t see and tripped on the cattle panel that fell. And when I tried to catch myself, I caught the other foot. Soooo, I did a full on belly flop onto the ground. I guess the good news is that the rain made it softer to land.
And when I dumped the rain gauge when I got home from work, it said 6/10th of an inch. So I couldn’t even take an accurate picture (or we got more rain while I was at work). Hopefully, we’ll keep getting a bit more rain as the week goes on. And here’s hoping nothing is severe.
We’re still having crazy weather–Monday was another record warm day. And still windy. We’ve had a lot of red flag warnings.
But Monday night was bringing another change, and this time it was supposed come with rain. That is good. I really need to get some rain for the pastures. I have too many bucks on the north paddock. And you can see there isn’t much up there for them. I’m still feeding them quite a bit.
If we get some rain, it will really make that little area off the buck room grow. If I can move them in there and keep feeding them for a couple of weeks, it will really give the north paddock a chance to grow.
Anyhow, I decided I should get ready for some potentially strong weather coming through. When I opened the door and went out, I wasn’t sure if it was a fire or a tornado at first. It certainly looked dramatic. Luckily, (I think) it was fire.
Anyhow, I prepared for rain Monday evening by putting my rain gauge out on the post.
I also put Antigone back in a pen in the Morton building because she is a wimp, and I didn’t want her to get stuck outside in a storm.
I wasn’t really thrilled with Skittles standing under a tree with the lightning, but there’s not a lot I can do to control that girl.
Then I watched the clouds come in.
And we had maybe a handful of sprinkles. But there’s a chance of rain almost every day for the rest of the week.
