
Second Prayer—8.111 When the king had thus discoursed to the crowd he looked again toward the temple, and lifting up his right hand to the crowd, he said,
for the Deity stands in need of nothing, and is above any such recompense.
But with that (gift of speech), we have been made superior by you, O Jehovah, to other animals;
it is necessary for us to praise your greatness and to return you thanks for what you have bestowed upon our house,
and on the Hebrew people.
112 For with what other instrument can we better appease you when wrathful or ill-willed to preserve your favour than with our voice,
which we have from the air and which we know to ascend through this element?
