Containers of God’s Word

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:11

A revived Christian is a Christian who loves and feeds on God’s Word.
We find life in the pages of the Bible. We study it, but we shouldn’t stop there.
We must memorize it, pray it, ponder, and meditate on it.
We mine it for the golden promises by which we live.

We become containers of God’s Word. And then we live it out as we walk in this world.
We are thus enabled to live the revival life.

We must not only know God’s word, we must live it. To live it, we must meditate on it.
The promises may be compared to a gold mine, which only enriches when the gold is dug out.
By holy meditation, we dig out that spiritual gold which lies hidden in the midst of the promise, and so we come to be enriched!

Thomas Watson

Prayer Prompt:
Father, your Word is a gold mine. I love its wisdom.
It truly is a lamp unto my feet.
In taking your Word into my being by memorizing and meditating on it, I become a container of your Word.
It is spiritual gold, and I am an eager gold miner.

From Our Cry for Revival: 365 Devotions and Prayers for an Outpouring of God’s Spirit by Nick Harrison

What Christian isn’t hungering for revival? Not just an emotional display of faith, but a revival that changes lives, renews churches, and can even change history. Such revivals as the Great Awakening, the Welsh Revival, and the Jesus Movement have earned their place in church history and are evidence that God is still alive and active. Even smaller revivals such as the recent revival at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, caught the attention of the world as upwards of fifty thousand Christians traveled to the college campus to witness this move of God. The recent movie, The Jesus Revolution was a surprise success at the box office as, once again, Christians flocked to hear about revival.
