Mamasita!
My economics final is tomorrow, but i am in no mood to study for it because... I leave for the sunny beaches, quaint villages, dangerous roads, ancient ruins, and rustic charm of ole Mexico and Guatemala tomorrow night!
Truth be told, im a little apprehensive. I dont like the fact that i'll be carrying cash, my camera and ipod, and wearing my Topman underwear (haha) while backpacking through dangerous (or so im told) Mexican streets. Doesnt help that neither me nor my 2 hwachong companions speak a word of Spanish. And the only Spanish phrase I've learnt during all my time here, surrounded by Americans who take Spanish as a 2nd language, is "Yo tengo una fiesta en mis pentalones" or "I have a party in my pants." I'm sure that's not going to get me any chicks.
Still, its these risk-taking, grab-life-by-the-balls, have exciting adventures in exotic countries events that lead to the sort of lifestyle I so desire.
And since the internet there is going to maddeningly slow, will probably not get the opportunity to blog about my adventures till my return on the 6th of January 2007. But yes, dont worry, I will return with tons of pictures and stories to tell :)
So dear reader, allow me to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and thank you for yet another wonderful year of allowing me to share my (mis)adventures with you through this blog.
Till next year, "yo tengo una fiesta en mis pentalones!"
(yesyes, i know i spelt tengo and pentalones wrongly the last time. I had like 5 minutes of spanish education before i came here.)

Being as narcissistic as every dancer is (dancers, dont kid yourselves, you know you like to look at yourselves), i couldnt resist posting this photo i found on my friend's Facebook. Oooo look at how evil we look.

Last Party of the Year
Found out that I received a hundred on my math final.
Decided to celebrate by throwing a huge party. Blew $90 on alcohol, invited some close friends. Unfortunately, the party turned out to be huge-er than i thought. Got busted by my GA, and got let off (thankfully). Took the party to the quad, where I said several politically, relationshiply-incorrect things. Of which I remember nothing of. Sigh.
Woke up in my friend's roommates bed. Went for an interview.
Went to Franklin Mills and blew another $100 bucks on clothes for Mexico and my dream pair of white Addidas shoes. Have not started studying for my Econ final on tuesday yet.
Whew. Thankfully this extravagant, spendthrift and dangerous lifestyle only comes once in a blue moon. Must watch myself.
Oh and Nadia calls my housing accomodation next year (with Gordon, Brian and Chiho, the most good-looking, craziest partiers at Penn) "the Den of Sin". I think its hilarious.

Finally, Finals
There's a certain zen mood in campus during reading days/finals. Van Pelt library's open 24 hours (and i dont know if its true but at 5am its apparantly filled with asians), my dining hall's open for study and serves coffee and bagels till breakfast, and in my very own deathly-quiet-hear-a-pin-drop Kings Court library, is still filled at 1.32am, with people scribbling on paper and typing on laptops.
This post is incomplete but im too stressed right now to finish it. Oh well.

Pet Peeves and Pleases and Problems
Pet peeve: extremelyfrickinrude lunch lady who hates asians, yells at you for no good reason, then resorts to childish gestures to prove her (stupid) point. There are a thousand politically incorrect things I could say about this, but because I'm a nice guy, I wont.
Pet please: Progress on charming on the girl-that-refuses-to-be-charmed front. (though still a long, long, long way to go.)
Pet Problem: I'm leaving for Mexico in slightly more than a week's time, and I have 1)no clothes for warm weather, 2)no backpack, 3)no transit visa to pass through belize, 4)no alcohol to celebrate the end of exams. How sia.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Yes, dear reader, I've been de-virginized.
So we'd just finished watching "Pursuit of Happyness" - heartwarming Will Smith movie and were discussing what a nice movie it was cause he managed to land the job in the end (aww, did i spoil it for you? whoops) - as we were stepping out of Annenberg, felt a few drops of stuff on my head and thought that it was drizzling.
Then Edith looked up and said very matter-of-factly, "Oh, its snowing." And I just stood there, in the middle of the street, rooted to the spot and simply staring in awe at the millions of white dots falling from the dark Philly sky. Followed by estatic whoops of "ITS SNOWING!!!" all the way back to the dorm.
Christine and I headed to the courtyard, where some of our floormates were gathered. The next 15 minutes were spent high-fiving and whooping in delight with Californian and Hawaiian floormates, who were also sharing the same virgin snow experience with me. There was no other way of describing the feeling: happiness. Just feeling the fluff fall on my face, sticking my tongue out to catch it, or catching one in my hand and examining it, I experienced an awe I havent felt since I saw a velociraptor attack a T-Rex in Jurassic Park. (Oh yes, I loved dinosaurs as a kid)
Cant wait for it to snow harder so I can make snowballs, snowmen and snow angels. Aww, it feels like being a kid again. :)

Neighbours
I love walking into my neighbours' rooms and spending an unjustified amount of time there just rolling on the bed (by myself, you sicko) and talking the night away about how Americans speak different from Singaporeans, or how gay sex is weird, or how to get a rich boyfriend, or what my army days were like, or where the best korean food is on campus, and watching random clips of russell peters.
Its like one heck of a long sleepover. Its really pretty cool to be surrounded by such a diverse group of hallmates.
Of course, besides the fact that I have my Business Chinese final exam tomorrow and I was supposed to sleep 2 hours ago. Oh well.

Jersey and Jumping
Latelate pictures from Thanksgiving break, spent with my uncle and family in Jersey:
Cousins Valerie and Kaizhen!
Quaint town in Pennsylvania where we had our scrumptious Thanksgiving lunch. Unfortunately, we'd finished our meal when my aunt exclaimed, "AIYUH! Forgot to take picture!"
Antique shop, which also sold...

Black Friday crowd outside Target at 5am. Black Friday's the day after Thanksgiving, which marks the start of the festive (read: shopping) season. Shops open in the wee hours of the morning and offer amazing discounts, drawing crazy crowds all across America. The people in this picture make up like 1/20th of the entire line waiting to get in at 5am.
We took a day trip to New York (again. This place is becoming like Orchard Rd man.) And only in New York will you find restrooms with their own escalator. The caption? "If you need to go, go in STYLE"
They also failed to mention that if you need to go, you need to join the line of a hundred curious New Yorkers wondering what a stylish toilet looks like.
Fast forward to yesterday, when we were guest performers for the Full Measure concert, Christian acapella group at Penn, held at the very lovely-atmosphered cathedral!
Full Measure doin' their thang, breakin it down and praisin' the Lord!
And a nice action shot of Overflow - the best (okay, the ONLY) Christian hip-hop dance group in University City. You cant really see, but im front and centre. Im supposed to be this evil guy who makes everyone sin and put on black sweaters. -evil laughter-
GCC Overflow! Estatic after our performance.
Post-performance with my future Korean roommates next year: Chrissy and Chiho. :)
