The answer to how easily we can kill…

Free Chicken Rooster photo and picture

my friend’s
adult granddaughters
have five chickens
they love their chickens
named them
take excellent care
of them
and when my friend asked them
what they wanted
for Hanukkah dinner
they said
chicken
and that is exactly why humans
can so easily kill
love only goes so far

Cultures…

woman sitting near bike

so many different cultures
so many different expectations
so many chances to learn
or misunderstand
so many different standards
of beauty
food
good and bad
so many
choices
some things
cannot be overcome
while other things
are welcome
and good for everyone
as much as we would all like to believe
that we are openminded
and flexible
we must face the fact that we are
our own culture
and that fact
will always
color
everything
we see
or do

Culture…

“Do you see what they’re doing?” she asked.

“Yes,” he sighed.  “Nothing will be left of America.  Not even statues like us, maybe a few buildings, at least for awhile.”

“They seem unable to learn.  We thought we were all that, remember?  People treated us like gods and goddesses, waited on us hand and foot, and now look at us.  We’re nothing by a tourist attraction, a reminder of what once was.”

“At least the weather’s nice.”

“True, but our power and civilization was destroyed by the same things that people are doing to themselves today.”

“All powerful cultures eventually disappear. They’re simply replaced by another one that’s destined to fall as well.”

“I suppose you’re right,” she agreed.  “I just wish they’d give us something to drink.”

“Yeah, me too.  It’s really hot out here.”
