Gray sky…

an airplane is flying high in the sky

this morning
as I was dragging myself
into the kitchen
I was wondering
if I’ve wasted years of my life
living under depressing
gray skies
it seems that I have
since half of the year looks like the sky
in the above photo
and having SAD
makes life difficult
it doesn’t matter
how many lights I turns on
it’s not sunlight
it’s like waiting
all the time
waiting for a ray of sunlight
so I feel alive
somehow I’m tethered
to this place
I’m not sure why
but gray skies
drain the life out of me
I was born a sun worshiper
but here I am
living under a gray sky
and waiting
always waiting
for it to go away

Winterwonderland…

a snow covered road in the middle of a forest

the beauty of winter exists
and I love it
but it lasts far too long
when you’re a summer person

The season…Winter

some people celebrate
Yule
the return of the light
longer days
time for planting
and growing things
some people celebrate
Santa and his flying Reindeer
they dream of presents
and decorated trees
of milk and cookies
and a fat stranger
breaking into their houses
leaving fabulous gifts
of puppies and kittens
still others
think of a baby
a donkey
lambs and shepherds
but there is no truth
other than what each of us
personally believes
all of the above celebrations
are meaningful
to those who love them
no one is better than another
the pagans
welcomed the light
I’m all for that
a lot of us love presents
trees
and flying reindeer
still others
are all about
a manger
it’s what you were raised
to believe
the only thing that’s actually true
is that the season’s
change and there will be
more light
and a time for planting
most reindeer can’t fly
and if a fat stranger was in your living room
I don’t think you’d be giving him milk and cookies
even if he had presents in a sack
and few believe in wise men nowadays
but none of that matters
because all of life is a fantasy
and we are the authors
of that story
so make up whatever you like
celebrate the return of the light
watch for Santa and the reindeer
think about babies being born
and just have a good time
opening presents
and being together

Surprise tree…

A decorated christmas tree in a snowy forest

a surprise tree
is a tree that you don’t expect
to see all lit up
standing outside
but you turn a corner
and there it is
SURPRISE!

Beautiful winter street scene…

A snowy street with a lamp post and trees

some people love
a snowy open field
one house
with a smoking chimney
but this is beautiful to me
something about a city
the closeness
the diversity
the energy
and the buzz of life
that never grows old
and fills me with joy

Snow…

Frosted evergreen branches in a winter forest

there is silence in the forest
as snow falls from above
dressing everything in white
some things bend with the weight
of the flakes
that intend no harm
just beauty
