the chicklets are hoping
for love in the world
I told them
I’m hoping for the same thing
but I didn’t say that chances
for it
are almost nonexistent

I was looking for pictures
to use on my blog
and aside from the pictures of women
who looks as if
they are in pain
mentally ill
or just pathetic
there are a million
photographs with the word
LOVE
on them
love in neon
tagged
on signs
pretty much everything
we live in a violent world
where love is in short supply
depending on your meaning
this weekend
I heard about several men
who were cheating on their wives
women they supposedly loved
we love our companion animals
because we can trust them
it doesn’t even matter if they love us back
we can love them easily
each other
not so much
LOVE is just a word
a word that can be corrupted
depending on what an individual
believes it to means
all the pictures
all the signs
people seem desperate for something
that might not actually exist
if we stopped thinking about love
as a heart
maybe it wouldn’t be so disastrous
when it was broken
