Expand default root criteria: maybe quarto? renv? vscode/positron?

I'm on a general campaign to smooth the pain of Positron having no equivalent of RStudio's .Rproj file, through documentation and tooling.

That inspired me to look harder at usethis and its criteria for detecting project-hood and I was a bit disappointed.

I'm in the process of adding 3 more criteria there in an in-flight PR (r-lib/usethis#2139):

• rprojroot::has_dir(".vscode") (see also # feat: Add is_vscode_project criterion, true if a .vscode/ directory exists rprojroot#157)
• rprojroot::is_quarto_project (see Pre-reqs for using usethis UCSB-MEDS/creating-quarto-websites#12)
• rprojroot::is_renv_project (see Refresh proj detection criteria usethis#2133)

It feels like these might also be relevant for here. Any interest?

I am having problems with rendering quarto files in Positron (works in Rstudio). I need to add here::i_am(..) to the script to make it work. Does this issue perhaps address this? Is there anything I can read about getting here() to work better in Positron?

@tomasrei You should probably open a separate issue somewhere (maybe in Positron?) with exact details on what you mean by "having problems", what the content of the document is, and the folder/workspace/project context.

here::here() works fine in Positron. The issue really is that, as people create more projects without ever using RStudio, it becomes important that the here package takes full advantage of all reasonable criteria for recognizing a project root.

Not sure it is the correct place to comment but this update created breaking change here. My case is when you generate doc from inside a project. Project has structure :

> .git
> scripts
> outputs
> docs
  > _quarto.yaml

... then _quarto.yaml takes precedence from inside the quarto-generated documents, no matter what I do (like setting execution dir to project). Adding .here at root level does not seem to fix it. Also your implementation is sensible to yaml (ignored) vs. yml (not ignored).
