Britches

The skies were white and gray like left over snow sludge, and the air hugged one tight with its chilly arms. The wintry feel to the weather made us think of our upcoming wedding gift from my uncle and aunt, a trip to Colorado in December to visit them and go skiing!
In preparation for the cold Colorado weather, we have been trying to build up Dom’s non-existent winter wardrobe. Dad was letting Dom try on two of his gently used thick, enveloping, fuzzy jackets. Investigator Dom was asking why there was a little pocket at the bottom of the jacket, or why there was a string on the inside to pull the jacket closer to your body. My dad educated him on how the zippers and pockets work until Dom had it down.
He tried one on while our fam oohed and aahed at his cozy winter look, but the bulky coat did look out of place hanging over Dom’s favorite plaid blue and white shorts.
My dad’s good ol’ Southern friend decided Dom didn’t really need a winter coat.
“You need some britches boy! You can’t go to Colorado wearing shorts! You need you some britches!”
“What are britches??” Dear Dom had no clue what he was talking about.
Hopefully we can get Dom at least one more pair of britches before we go to Colorado because at the moment he only has one pair of jeans to combat the icy slopes with. Britches shopping here we come!
