Paper Rose | Primrose Garden Cards

Hi crafty friends! Today I’m excited to share a lovely set of cards featuring the beautiful Primrose Garden embossed die cuts, brought to life with playful splatters of Distress Oxide sprays for that extra pop of texture and visual interest. ✨

Step 1 | Create Background Splatters

I added playful ink splatters over the Nature Stroll Basics 2 paper collection using Distress Oxide inks, then layered on a soft shimmer with a DIY spray made from pigment powders and water for a subtle, glistening finish.

Step 2 | Paper Cutting

Trim the patterned paper into strips measuring 3″ x 5 7/8″, then use the Wonka Scalloped Edges die with white cardstock to create decorative borders for each piece. Die cut 3 x background panels with the Charlotte Decorative die. Adhere these all down on white card bases

Step 3 | Die Cuts

Select a variety of Primrose Garden die cuts, enough to create a small stack of cards (I made 7 because I just couldn’t stop!). Die cut your patterned paper using the Nesting Arches Dies, then layer everything onto your card fronts. Adhere the pieces with liquid glue or foam adhesive to add a lovely touch of dimension.

Step 4 | Sentiments

Choose a selection of sentiments from the Black & White Sentiment Sheets to suit and complement your designs, then add them to your cards to bring everything together beautifully.

Paper Rose | Hop Into Spring Cards & Post-it note holders

Hi crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a sweet set of cards and matching post-it note holders featuring the adorable Hop Into Spring Treat die cuts and the Basics paper collection. The soft pastel colours combined with these yummy treat images make the perfect spring-inspired palette!

Sweet Treat Cards & Post-It Note Holders

Start by choosing your favourite patterned papers and embossed die cuts from the Paper Rose Studio range. For this project, I selected the adorable Hop Into Spring Treats Embossed Die Cuts and paired them with papers from the Basics 6×6 Paper Collection. The soft pastel colours work beautifully together, so I matched my cardstock bases to complement the gentle tones in the patterned papers for a perfectly coordinated look.

Step 1 | Create the Post-It Note Holder Base

Begin by cutting your cardstock to 3¼″ x 7⅝″. Score the cardstock at 3¼″, 3⅝″, and 4″ to create the folds for your holder.

Step 2 | Form the Pen Slot

Fold the cardstock using mountain folds, then fold the holder in half. From the bottom edge, carefully snip small slits at 1″ and 2⅛″. These cuts will create the opening for the pen holder.

Step 3 | Create the Pop-Up Section

With the larger section positioned to the right, gently push the centre cut section upward so it pops forward. Apply adhesive to the top and bottom sections where the cardstock meets to secure the holder structure in place.

Step 4 | Add the Post-It Notes

Apply adhesive to the back of your post-it note pad and attach it to the right-hand side of the holder base.

Step 5 | Decorate the Front Panel

Trim a piece of patterned paper from the Basics Paper Collection to 3″ x 3″ and adhere it to the front of the holder.

Step 6 | Add Layered Die-Cut Circles

Using a stitched circle die, cut circles from coordinating patterned papers and white cardstock in the collection. Alternate the colours to create a layered look, then adhere them to the square and card front panels for added dimension and visual interest.

Step 7 | Create the Card Base

Cut cardstock to form an A6 card base, ready to decorate with coordinating patterned papers and die cuts.

Step 8 | Add the Sweet Treat Details

The Hop Into Spring Embossed Die Cuts coordinate beautifully with both the card bases and patterned papers, adding the cutest sweet treat elements to your designs. With so many adorable pieces to choose from, narrowing down the selection can be tricky—but that’s part of the fun!

Step 9 | Assemble Your Projects

Once you’ve chosen your favourite die cuts and layers, arrange them on your card fronts and post-it note holders. When you’re happy with the layout, adhere everything into place using foam squares or liquid adhesive to create depth and dimension.

✨ Now you have a sweet coordinating set of cards and post-it note holders, perfect for gifting or adding a little handmade charm to your desk! ✨

Paper Rose | Bees & Butterflies Card

Fresh, Textured & Full of Life!
This vibrant card is all about playful colour, layered texture, and effortless dimension. We begin by creating a beautifully blended Distress Oxide background, then build interest with gritty stencil detail and soft edge shading. The addition of sweet Bees and Butterflies die-cuts brings the design to life, while a sprinkle of sparkle adds the perfect finishing touch. It’s a fun mix of inky techniques and easy embellishing — perfect for creating a card that feels bright, fresh, and full of movement. 🌿🐝✨

Step 1 : Spray Background

Lightly mist Wild Honey, Twisted Citron, and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Sprays onto a panel of Strathmore 140lb Watercolour cardstock, allowing the colours to blend and react naturally.

Step 2 | Add Paste

Apply Distress Opaque Grit Paste through the Paper Rose Distress Mesh 6×6 Stencil, using a spatula to smoothly spread the paste over the design for the best coverage and texture.

Step 3 | Ink around the edges

Add soft ink blending using Distress Ink in Cracked Pistachio with a round ink blending tool. Load the sponge by pressing it into the ink pad, then gently blend around the edges of the watercolour panel in light, circular motions for a subtle, shaded finish. Adhere the watercolour panel down on the cardbase.

Step 4 | Place Die Cuts

Choose your favourite pieces from the Bees and Butterflies Die Cuts collection for a quick and easy card design. Adhere the die-cuts with foam squares in a landscape orientation to complete your layout.

Step 5 | Embellish Card

Complete the card by adding a sprinkle of Clear Crystal mix embellishments, securing them in place with liquid adhesive for a touch of sparkle.

Paper Rose | Spring Blooms Watercolour Card

Hi friends! I’m so excited to share today’s card project featuring a bold floral image, dreamy watercolouring, and an inky, sprayed layered background. This card was such a joy to create and is a lovely mix of detail and playful creativity.

Step 1: Choose Your Floral Stamp

Begin by selecting your favourite floral stamp from Paper Rose Studio.
For this card, I used the Spring Blooms stamp set. Stamping will be heat embossed, so start with a piece of good-quality watercolour cardstock.

Step 2: Heat Emboss the Image

Lightly dust your watercolour cardstock panel with an anti-static powder tool to remove any static and residue—this helps prevent stray embossing powder.

Place the cardstock and stamp into your MISTI (or stamping platform) and stamp the floral image using Versamark ink.
Sprinkle gold embossing powder over the stamped image, tap off the excess, and heat set with a heat embossing tool until the powder is fully melted and shiny.

Step 3: Watercolour the Floral Image

Colour the heat-embossed image using watercolour mediums. I used a mix of Ecoline Brush Pens and Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, blending the colours with an Aqua Pentel brush pen.

To add extra sparkle and shine, finish with a clear sparkle pen.
Once dry, fussy cut around the floral image and set it aside while you work on the background panel.

Colours used:

  • Ecoline Brush Pens – Carmine (318), Bluish Green (640), Light Green (601)
  • Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers – Carmine Red (022), Light Carmine (021), Orange (070), Yellow (050), Light Green (041)

Step 4: Create the Background Panel

Now for the fun part, building the background!
Using Distress Stain Sprays, layer the colours Uncharted Mariner, Rustic Wilderness, Hickory Smoke, and Twisted Citron onto your panel.

Add white paint splatters using Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleedproof White ink for extra texture and interest.
Once completely dry, trim the panel to fit neatly onto a side-folding card base.

TIP:
Dry the panel between each colour layer and add water droplets with a Distress Sprayer bottle between layers to create soft blends and organic textures.

Step 5: Assemble the Card

Adhere the watercoloured floral image to the centre of the background panel using foam squares for dimension.
Finish the card by adding a sentiment from the Bright Days Ahead sentiment set.

Your card is now complete, full of colour, texture, and springtime cheer 🌸

Paper Rose | Perfect Pairs Easel Cards

Get ready for some quick and happy cardmaking! Today I’m sharing a fun set of easel cards using gorgeous pattern papers and pop-up die cuts that make putting cards together an absolute breeze.

Step 1: Choose Your Papers & Pop-Up Die Cuts

Start by selecting your favourite designs from the Paper Rose Studio Quick Cards Collection. Each pack includes 12 gorgeous designs with 3 sheets of each—perfect for creating quick and easy cards.
Next, choose coordinating embossed pop-up die cuts that complement your chosen pattern papers.

Step 2: Trim Your Background Panels

Trim the pattern papers to 5 4/8″ x 3 7/8″.
Once trimmed, adhere each panel to the front of an A2 card base using your preferred adhesive.

Step 3: Prepare Your Easel Card Bases

For today’s card set, I’ve used top-folding card bases throughout.
To create the easel fold, score and fold the card base in half, following the example shown in the photo below.

Step 4: Assemble the Card Fronts

Now comes the fun part—decorating!
Arrange the pop-up die cuts, twine, extra circle die cuts, and pattern paper strips onto the card fronts. Secure everything using a mix of foam squares, liquid adhesive, glue dots, and a twine attacher for added texture and dimension.

Step 5: Assemble the Inside of the Cards

To allow the easel cards to stand upright, you’ll need to create an anchor on the inside of each card.
I’ve used strips of pattern paper and sentiment pieces, adhered with foam tape and liquid glue, to create a sturdy and decorative stop.

Paper Rose Studio

Paper Rose | Alcohol Ink Cards

Step 1: Choose Your Cover Dies & Papers
Begin by selecting the cover dies you’d like to use from the wide range of Paper Rose Studio cover plates. These designs are ideal for creating quick and easy cards.
You can also choose from a huge selection of patterned papers if desired.

Step 2: Create Your Background Panels
For today’s card collection, we’ll be creating our own alcohol ink panels. Alcohol inks are a fantastic way to add texture, movement, and visual interest to your cards.

Step 3: Prepare Your Card Bases
Use side-folding card bases for all cards in today’s post.

Step 4: Apply the Alcohol Inks
Select two to three alcohol ink colours and drop them onto your work surface or directly onto your panel. Add isopropyl alcohol to blend the colours together and watch how they interact.

Step 5: Create Splatters & Texture
To add splatter effects, flick isopropyl alcohol onto the panel from a distance for fine splatters, or move closer for larger droplets. Varying your distance will give you different effects and added interest.

Step 6: Die Cut Overlay
Die cut with the Amelia, Charlotte & Halifax Coverplate dies and adhere over the top of the alcohol-inked panels and adhere to the side-folding card bases.

Step 7: Sentiment placement
Choose a pre-embossed sentiment from the Bright Days Ahead Sentiments collection to finish the card off. Use foam squares to add a raised layer.

Tips:
Try tilting the paper to encourage the ink to flow and blend naturally. You can also use a straw to gently blow the ink in different directions for even more movement and texture.

Patience is key: Alcohol inks are all about experimentation, so don’t rush! Take time to explore different techniques. Use a well-ventilated space: Alcohol inks can release fumes, so be sure to work in a well-ventilated area.

Clean-up:
Use isopropyl alcohol to clean your tools and surfaces when done. Alcohol inks can stain, so make sure to protect your workspace.
