In Memoriam: Lady Diana Minkah Michelle “Kitty” Capone June 2022-September 27, 2024

My cat, Lady Diana, has passed away & crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I am typing this from my hospital bed, with tears rolling down my face. Luckily, when I asked for an anti-anxiety med, I got it! This week has been horrific, beginning with pink eye on Monday, a trip to the ER on Wednesday, only to be admitted to the hospital with a staph infection. After several bags of IV antibiotics, I will be sent home later today with more antibiotics, only to go home to a house without my Lady Diana.

Yesterday my daughter was not having a good day. Lady Diana got out when she wasn’t paying attention & would not go back inside. Roegn became very upset & decided to leave her outside as punishment.

This morning I received a text message: “Hi, my name is Stacey and I’m with Whimsical Whiskers cat rescue. Can you please return my call regarding a black cat near main st in Casey.” I thought she had just gotten picked up & was in need of a ride home. Unfortunately, I was told that she ran in front of a truck, but was intact.

I did not take it well.

Lady Diana was the absolute best cat; she knew when she was needed & knew how to communicate exactly what she wanted. Understanding English & French commands, she was incredibly posh. Diana would push things on my head to wake me up to be fed, or just go to her ‘spot’ on my headboard, & would give me a good talking-to if I needed it. Every morning she would help me make coffee, sitting next to my Keurig; & then we would snuggle. She helped bring me out of a deep, dark depression, & I am so very grateful for the day my daughter’s friend dropped her at our house.

Lady Diana adored an open window. At first the cats in the neighborhood would tease her, running from one window to another. I think she had a boyfriend in the hood; an orange hooligan who caused her to escape from time to time. She thoroughly enjoyed her cat tree & liked to play fetch. She loved everyone & was a social cat on most days.

When Giovanni came into our lives, she wasn’t happy. In short time, however, she became very pleased with all the playing & wrestling they got to do together. Diana absolutely loved Gio & eventually got used to having a kitten around. They would take naps together & sometimes I would see her wash him. We looked forward to seeing them grow up together!

Roegn broke the news to Giovanni; she said that it was harder than she thought it was going to be.

my heart is breaking.

In Memory of Lady Diana Minkah Michelle “Kitty” Capone; a posh & clever void of a cat. I know she is warming the lap of my Meemaw & getting to know Forrest Gump (my old shitzu), Tonks (former calico), as well as other pets & family who have passed. Her death will always remind me of the passing of Dame Maggie Smith, who herself was a cat at times. May they both rest in peace.

Pink Eye • CONTAGIOUS! • Sick Day for Me!

Conjunctivitis Versus Healthy Eyes #1 by: Science Photo Library

{pain} 6 – my shoulder hurts, my back & neck hurt, & my f^cking eye hurts so bad… on fire at an 8. I despise conjunctivitis.

Have you ever had pink eye?

Conjunctivitis—often called “pink eye”—is inflammation of the conjunctiva from infection or allergies. Your eyes are red and swollen (inflamed), and sometimes they have a sticky discharge. The small blood vessels in the conjunctiva become swollen making them red. You can have conjunctivitis in one or both eyes.

There’s no need to bury the lead here, having pink eye totally sucks. When you have little kids, or you work with the littles, you’re more apt to have run ins with conjunctivitis. If you work in a preschool or volunteer in the nursery at church, you’re more likely to have a story about pink eye.

Neither of the girls I watch seem to have pink eye… so where did this come from??? I do not know, but both Grace (mom to Little Miss & Honey) & I are going to be in full ‘Lysol’-mode.

It’s a beautiful, rainy day outside & I feel like poop. Probably going to take a nap after I hit my next ‘eye—drop’ (which is every THREE hours for SEVEN days). My apologies, I am not feeling well & there’s not much that can help me feel better.

PSA: Teach yourself NOT to touch your eyes or face – no matter if you have eye crusty’s, or an eye lash out of place, or something! Most people don’t realize how often they touch their face; that is the quickest mode of virus transportation (through your eyes/nose/mouth). Anyway, that’s enough unsolicited advice. I’m going to try to take a nap.

Okay! It’s school time, then! • When to start pre-pre-K // scary smart kids // Routine, routine, routine!

Hello, friends. Certainly I have mentioned the two little girls I have started watching, Little Miss – who is a precocious two and a half years old; & Honey (or Ma Petit Rouge), who is 5 months old now. Both girls are well developed & are bursting at their norms, so I have started pre-pre-K with Little Miss this week. This has brought up a number of questions like, “When should you start school?”; “What type of schools is right for my child?”; & “What is Montessori?” — all of which will take a series, so this is part one, focusing on the ‘when’.

Little Miss at Playgroup

When is a good time to start school? Well, first we must identify what you mean by school. If you’re sending your child(ren) to public school, you can start Early Learning, Head Start (if there’s one in your area) once they’re potty trained. Pre-K begins at four/five years old depending on your child’s ability & your preference; and Kindergarten begins the following year.

But what if you’re homeschooling, or wanting to begin a pre-pre-k program at home? Well, again, it depends on your kid(s). If you find that they’re bored of their toys, tired of your songs, favourite tv shows, or begin misbehaving or acting out, then it’s time for school of some sort. Littles need their brain engaged, focusing, but certainly not all day. Beginning with a 30 min morning focused on a craft of some kind is a great way to engage their minds, hands, & fingers.

Little Miss will be 3 in April. At this point I have discovered that one letter a week will take too long & isn’t as engaging as a few letters a week & utilizing different cycles (alphabetical order the first time, similar phonetic sounds the second cycle, letters that look the same, often used words, etc.). We continue with one colour a week, utilizing different themes each day (i.e. foods of similar colour, clothes, animals, etc.). We are focusing on the number 5 & may expand to include other numbers that have a 5; I’ll let you know how that goes.

Next week we will be adding site words, or popcorn words; I’m certain there are many variations on the term. We always begin with the ABC’s & have several songs that touch on all three phases we are focusing on, our letters, colour, & number; soon we will add a shape & specific animal each day. The idea is to build upon a strong foundation, which begins with you as the parent or care giver. When your child(ren) begin school is up to you, but it’s also your job to reinforce learning at home, and to offer them the best opportunities to engage their minds & bodies.

That’s our morning! Once we’ve accomplished all of that (usually with several coloring sheets & a craft along with videos) we have wiggle time right before lunch. After lunch Little Miss plays for a bit then has personal iPad time for about 15 minutes. We lay down for a nap at noon. My policy is, “You don’t have to sleep, but you do have to rest.” Usually if I can get her to slow down long enough & be still she will fall asleep without much complaint. Little Miss is also rewarded with a Dum Dum if she takes a nap.

Once everyone is up & around we go outside or have dance time inside. The afternoon is spent singing songs, watching her favourite tv shows, & playing games. We have been writing the letters with our finger on a toy or in the air & will begin with a white board in a couple weeks. It’s during this time I am also working with Honey completing her physical & developmental therapy.

Little Miss Learning About an Alligator Named April

The most important thing is routine. If you haven’t learned this already as a parent or caregiver, please let me reinforce: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS ROUTINE. Littles don’t have much control over their lives. One thing that keeps them calm on the inside is knowing what will happen next. If you create & then keep a routine that is good for you & the kid(s), you will find that your life runs much more smoothly & there are fewer meltdowns with your little ones. (Meltdowns will not completely disappear, their little bodies are just full of hormones rushing this way & that). A routine will help them be prepared for what’s next.

Which reminds me, Little Miss enjoys a time warning about different events. I will let her know, “It’s 15 minutes until lunch” or “We have 10 minutes until nap time.” Some kids feel more control over their environment when they know the order of things.

With that I will wish you all the best. Please leave a comment 🤓 if you’ve made it this far// let me know how you’re going about pre-pre-K, about your routine, or your child’s favourite part of the day.

Midweek Restful-Informative Day • Can you believe it’s already September???

**9.Sept.24 — this was finished three days ago – why didn’t I publish??? I do not know.**

{pain} my day began at a 7 (shoulder); put lidocaine patches on, 4; went to PT & left at a 3
. That’s a steady progression the correct way. 😊

September Evening by: Maurice Denis

Hello, friends. Can you believe it’s already September? This is the shortest, yet still the longest, year ever. [Thursday]- Yeah, that’s as far as I got yesterday. I ended up writing postcards to swing states for most of the day, which didn’t help with my right arm/shoulder pain.

I’m back with the neighbor girls today & they are growing so fast! I’ve only been watching them since the first of July but they have already grown & changed very much! They change every day at this age!

We are supposed to have the kids (Mon Petit Homme & Ma Petit Fleur) this weekend, but I don’t think it will happen. Not certain if I mentioned that last time I dropped them off I also told their mom that they needed parenting (not in so few words). Unsolicited information: narcissists don’t like it when you point out their faults. So, I doubt we get them this weekend, as their mama also enjoys using the kids against people. 😔

[most recent texts say the kids will be here this weekend… *sigh* seems as though she wants the free childcare]

We went to the Popcorn Festival on Sunday – lot’s of fair food, crafts, & tRump merch. 🙄 Sometimes I just want to scream at them – but that would just feed their hate; I must learn to simply laugh at their idiocy & move on. The Popcorn Festival was bigger than I remember from previous years; many more food vendors, ‘stuff’ vendors, & rides than in previous years that I can recall. For a tiny little town like ours, it was big time.

Roegn is back into her ‘girly phase’ – dresses, pink stuff, all the goodies. Honestly, I’m glad we didn’t have this when she was little – she was much more into purple than pink, which was lovely. Now it blossoms into pink hair & fantastic make up choices, along with a bunch of pink key chains. She wore a dress to the fair & looked incredibly cute!

NFL Football is on tonight! I’m so happy we are back in the season & this weekend is going to be crazy! First game of the season is tonight; very first Friday night NFL football game from São Paulo, Brazil; College football on Saturday; then a full day 🏈 Sunday; and finally, Monday Night Football! What a way to begin the 2024 season!

With that I will say, ‘adieu’. Hope your week is going well!
