End of June ~

Good morning Peoples! 91 degrees today! Yikes! I think we’ve had a great summer, so far. We’ve had a few hot days, but it’s still been wonderful. We could use some rain. We haven’t had much.

Today Rick and I went to the farmer’s market. Our area has a farmer’s market on Thursday afternoon and Saturday mornings. I like farmer’s markets. All the produce, flowers, baked goods, crafts and the hustle and bustle of people, it’s fun. The farmer’s market on Thursdays has a woman who sells homemade sour dough bread. Since I enjoy sandwiches with sour dough bread, I always buy a loaf of bread from her. Rick bought a chocolate chip cookie the size of a Frisbee! It will take days to eat that huge cookie! 😉🍪

When we left the market, we drove through the drive thru at Starbuck’s. I needed a cold drink. The guy at the drive thru was great. He was asking about our day, and what we were doing on the weekend.

Guy at Starbuck’s ~ What are you doing on the 4th of July?

Rick and I in unison ~ Sleep!

Guy at Starbuck’s ~ Laughing Loudly!

I didn’t tell him Rick’s birthday is the 4th of July! 🎂🍨

A Charlie Chan Mystery

Well, this is the second Charlie Chan mystery, and it is a good one. Charlie is an Inspector for the Honolulu Police Department. In this mystery, he travels to San Francisco to meet with an old friend, Sally Jordan. Sally was once wealthy; however, she has fallen on hard times and wants to sell her pearls to P. J. Madden.

Mr. Eden, the jeweler who is handling the sale asks Charlie Chan to keep the pearls in his position and assist his son Bob Eden to deliver them to a ranch in the desert where Mr. Madden lives. Charlie Chan disguises himself as a cook and investigates undercover. There is something nefarious afoot and Charlie knows it! Charlie soon learns the local authorities are inept and racist. Not good.

And! Mr. Madden has a talking parrot who provides Charlie Chan with an incredible clue.

Charlie does have help, a local newspaper reporter, a location scout for the movies and Bob.

I really liked this mystery! Clever plot. Well-written. Great location, in the desert and a tangled labyrinth of deceit, lies, kidnapping and murder.

I don’t remember any profanity and there isn’t any adult content. It’s safe for anyone who enjoys a good mystery!

Currently Reading Book Tag ~

Good morning Peoples! Summer has been wonderful. We’ve had a few warm days, but it feels good. I’ve been walking to a nearby cafe and savoring their lemonade. It’s very good. And! The bakery I frequent has good lemonade too. Yummy. 🍋🍋🍋

Golden Age of Detective Fiction has a tag I like. I thought I would scurry into position and join in on the fun. If you would like more information, just hop on your Vespa and zoom on over to her great blog. The link is below ~

~ How many books do you read at once?

I read one book at a time. *sigh* 📚

~ If You’re Reading More Than One Book At A Time When Do You Switch Reading To The Other Book?

Good question, especially since I read one book at a time. I think if Rick and I were going to travel I would not take a library book with me. All library books would remain at home. I would take a book I own. I wouldn’t want to lose a library book on a trip.

~ Do You Ever Switch Bookmarks While You’re Part Way Through The Book

Oh my word! All the time! LOL! Although right now I’m using a Snoopy bookmark. He’s lasting longer than most bookmarks do.

~ Where do you keep the book you are currently reading?

Normally on our dining room table.

~ What time of day do you do the most reading?

Mornings. 🌞

~ How long do you spend reading at one time?

Anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours!

~ Do you read hard cover with the jacket on or off?

I read them with the jacket on.

Which position do you mainly use to read?

I sit at a table.

~ Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?

No. It depends on where I’m going.

~ How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on goodreads?

Well, I’ve left goodreads. My account is still sitting there with little activity. I rarely go there. Usually I go to goodreads to see how friends are doing on a book their reading.

~Who would you like to tag?

Anyone and everyone! ❤🤗📚

GONE to the DOGS Mysteries🦴 Book 1

Before I purchased this cute cozy mystery, I hesitated. I just wasn’t sure about it. Now that I have read the book, I liked it. It’s a fun mystery to read.

Marigold works at the Lone Star Vet Clinic. Her dream is to rescue dogs. She loves dogs. I like dogs to. My favorite breed is a collie. I love collies. Anyway, where does our Marigold find herself rescuing a dog??? In a drainage pipe! It is a crazy moment in time. The police arrive, they think she’s homeless. What a conundrum! There is never a dull moment in Marigold’s life or at the Lone Star Vet Clinic. Her vehicle is stolen, the clinic is vandalized, one of the workers has an insane ex-boyfriend and the list goes on and on. All is not lost. Parker is always there for Marigold. He’s a great guy! And! We have quirky characters who love Marigold and support her. Our Marigold is not without her own idiosyncrasies though. And! Grandma Peach is always making pies! She can make a pie for me anytime, especially apple! I laughed, I was touched, I sniffed.

Beach House #2

Hello Peoples! I didn’t realize this was the second book in a series until I started reading it. No problem. No problem at all. I wasn’t lost or confused. And! This interesting story fulfills the requirement for the monthly book challenge! *A Book With A Beach Setting*🌞⛱

And what a great beach setting it was. Toy Sooner is a single mother living on the beach with her daughter. Toy is an Aquarist at a nearby aquarium and she loves her job. After assisting in saving a giant loggerhead turtle, a floater, she is given the task, by the Aquarium President, of caring for any and all injured giant turtles that arrive at the aquarium. And there are several. She has caught the eye of her boss, Ethan, so we have a romance in the story.

https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species/loggerhead-turtle

I liked this book ~ a lot! The reader will build sandcastles on the beach, help care for giant turtles, meet a group of great people who though not related, are family. Travel to Costa Rica and meet a leatherback turtle! What a great job Toy has!!!

This book does have profanity in it, mostly at the end of the story.

Hot Pot Murder by Jennifer J. Chow

L. A. Night Market Mystery

There is a LOT of good food in this mystery. 🥣 You might get very hungry whilst reading it.

Yale and Celine are cousins. Celine is a good photographer and foodstagrammer. They successfully run an Asian food stall in Los Angeles. They have been invited to a dinner for members of the restaurant association. Unfortunately, someone is murdered at the dinner. Well, when a relative is suspected, not the main suspect, but a suspect none the less, Yale and Celine are up for the task and investigate.

I liked it. It was a good mystery. The reader won’t just have a murder to solve, but arson and a bad check are involved in this mystery. There was some family drama and a good sense of community. The Night Market is wonderful. All the people, food, drinks and activity are well described.

Highly recommend!

It’s Sunday~

Hello Peoples! My big brother, from Michigan, has been visiting us for a few days. He’s not only a good big brother, he’s also a much-needed distraction! He’s been keeping me busy, and I needed it! My brother and Rick are in the dining room, right now, talking and laughing about terrible movies they’ve seen and how funny these movies are. I decided to do some computer work. It’s scary 😉😁 but they have the same taste in terrible movies.

We’ve had such a good time. We talked and laughed. My brother likes Sci-fi movies, so we have watched several Star Trek movies. We eaten a lot of food together and just had a relaxing good time.

Hot Pot Murder by Jennifer J. Chow

I just started reading, Hot Pot Murder. It’s interesting and I do like this author.

I’ve been kitty-sitting for three days. Our neighbors went on a short trip and I’m feeding the kitty whilst they are gone. They’re returning today. I think the kitty missed his family. He’s a good kitty and so sweet.

Enjoy!

Indigo Isle by T. I. Lowe

I can’t write a review to do this book justice. It’s a good story in a lovely setting, South Carolina *Indigo Isle* with beaches and swimming pools and interesting characters and a movie set. It’s a prodigal son story with tones of Beauty and the Beast. I loved the characters, Sonny and Hudson. Erlene was a wonderful addition to a good story. Who doesn’t love the quirky Vee???

It did take me awhile to read it because I have been very fatigued recently. I went to the doctor and got some troubling news.

This is a book for adults! Happy Reading! 📚
