Foreign Correspondence ~ A Hitchcock Movie

Foreign Correspondent (1940)

Joel McCrea Laraine Day George Sanders Herbert Marshall Robert Benchley

Johnny Jones (Joel McCrea) is a reporter at a New York newspaper. His boss sends him to Europe because he isn’t happy with the news articles coming out of Europe. He’s assigned to get the inside story to a treaty by two European countries negotiated by a diplomat ~ Van Meer. The situation goes wrong, very wrong and Johnny asks Carol Fisher (Laraine Day) to assist him with his task. This is espionage, very much espionage. It is one GOOD movie. Rick and I watched it last night. It is so intense, I kept taking breaks.

Have you seen Foreign Correspondent? What are your thoughts? Do you like Hitchcock movies? What are your favorites?

I highly recommend this film!

Bride of Pendorric by Victoria Holt

Good morning lovely Peoples! When I was in high school, I read several books by Victoria Holt. I liked them, but I gave them away to someone. Well, in our travels we stopped at a used bookstore and there on the shelf were several hard cover books by said author. I was surprised, so, I bought them all. As I read these books, I am discovering, I don’t remember them, well, with the exception of one. I do remember most of, On the Night of the Seventh Moon.

In Bride of Pendorric, Favel Farrington and her father live on an Italian Island. Her father is an artist (sculpture). I enjoyed reading about their life in Italy. One sunny Italian day, Roc Pendorric arrives. Favel and Roc fall in love, marry and Roc whisks her away to the family castle in Cornwall. There are rumors of the Brides of Pendorric, haunting music, skulking around, cahooting and other strange happenings and it is obvious someone is trying to kill Favel.

There are surprises in this story. And! There are members of the family that are insane! 😮 It’s creepy, it’s dark and a good story. There are likable characters too. Read it!

Happy Reading!

Gone Gull by Donna Andrews

Hello lovely Peoples! My birthday🎂 was the 15th of March. We had a good weekend. A few peoples stopped by for cake🥳🎈🎉 and ice cream. I got birthday cards and gifts. A whole lotta text messages wishing me a happy birthday. It was a nice weekend.

I also finished reading Gone Gull by Donna Andrews.

Grandma has started a craft center on her property, on Biscuit Mountain. It’s a busy busy craft center. Meg, Michael and the boys are all there and Meg is teaching a class on blacksmithing. Someone is nefarious and committing acts of vandalism. How rude! So, Meg and her family, police etc. are trying to discover the identity of the vandal and put a stop to it when Meg finds a victim of murder! That’s right, someone is dead. So now, the craft center has a lotta of police involved. Meg certainly has an active and interesting life.

Grandpa is still a curmudgeon. This time he is searching for extinct seagulls. 🐧🐦‍⬛🦉haha. None of those emojis are seagulls!

Have a great day!

Much Love ~

The Good, the Bad and the Emus by Donna Andrews

A Meg Langslow Mystery

Hello lovely Peoples! I shake my head! There is never a dull moment in Meg’s family! And! Meg certainly meets herself coming and going.

In this cozy mystery, family secrets are revealed. In the Langslow family nothing is a surprise, well, almost nothing. We’re rounding up emus! Someone is murdered. Meg investigates the murder while Grandpa brings in the emus. Meg becomes friends with a newly found cousin. Stanley, the P.I. is helping with the investigating. I didn’t solve this. I didn’t try to solve it. I just enjoyed the quirky characters and the chaos!

The Quiet Gentleman by Georgette Heyer

Hello lovely Peoples! Well, someone is trying to kill the Earl! Shocking and rude! 😮 The poor guy. He has just returned from war, unharmed. He’s a great guy, I couldn’t imagine who would want to murder him. The Earl is the heir to a vast fortune and his brother Martin is having a difficult time accepting that. Martin has a temper, and he is crazy jealous. He wants Marianne, but Marianne doesn’t want him. Then we have the Dowager, a cousin, Ulverston *who happens to be in love with Marianne* and several more characters. They were all likable, even the nefarious one was likable. Nothing came to fisticuffs, but there was a sword fight. 🤺

I liked it. It wasn’t my favorite book by this author, but I did enjoy the read. I recommend it.

Happy Reading!

Road To Rio

Hello lovely Peoples! Saturday night Rick and I watched Road to Rio (1947) It’s a musical and a comedy and a highly entertaining film

Bob Hope Bing Crosby Dorothy Lamour Gale Sondergaard

Scat Sweeney and Hot Lips Barton burn a circus tent down, run and stow away on a ship. They meet Lucia, a lovely lady in trouble and want to help her, well, at least Scat wants to help her. 😉😁😉 Her guardian is hypnotizing her and, without a doubt, has nefarious purposes. Our heroes *ahem* have quite a chase, disrupt a wedding and catch the crooks! All in a day’s work for our guys!

The Wiere Brothers are in this film and so are the Andrews sisters.

Enjoy!
